"John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this socialistic," Obama continued. "You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness."

That's right. Obama thinks keeping your hard earned money is "selfish". Read the full article for a little more of his comments regarding governments apparent need to provide for us.

I don't get this line of thinking at all. For the last eight years the middle class have been shouldering the burdon of the corporate tax breaks in the hopes that these corporations would use the money to create jobs. Instead they pocketed the money and shipped jobs overseas. Now it's their turn to shoulder the burdon. That's the bottom freaking line. If you don't like it don't vote for him, which I assume you weren't going to anyway.

So not wanting to pay exorbitant amounts of money to the government because they don't know how to be fiscally responsible is 'selfish'?

He definitely didn't lie about not being a socialist he is one more step beyond that. I hope this guy doesn't get elected I don't think these people have a clue how much worse that it can actually get.

I think it is selfish when my hard earned money goes for corporate welfare. Why is it so difficult for some to see that Obama is simply taking back the corporate welfare so I can keep more of my paycheck.

This fear mongering over taxes is.... well....breathtakingly stupid.

Well if Obama gets elected president and his tax plan goes through you will see what will happen first hand.

Businesses don't pay taxes, they include the taxes they pay in the products that we buy. Everything you buy from the store has what is called a hidden tax of around 23%. Services that we buy also have this tax hidden in the product.

What is going to happen is that the corporations are going raise their prices to compensate for these tax increases and cut jobs to keep the business profitable.

I think it's selfish when my hard earned money goes to anyone's welfare.

I don't make money to support others; I work hard 9 hours a day to make money to support me and mine. No one should have to shoulder more of a tax burden in order to go to welfare of any kind.

It's not selfish. It's stupid. Nobody should have their hands on my money but me.

Why is it so difficult for some to see that Obama is simply taking back the corporate welfare so I can keep more of my paycheck.

Difficult? I'll say. It's generally impossible to see what doesnt exist. He'll just take my money and throw it away on some other stupid !@#$.

Government crap, corporate welfare, individual welfare ... it's all taking what's mine away from me. By damn force I might add.

This fear mongering over taxes is.... well....

Not intense enough and never directed at taxation itself only scapegoats and distractions. A habit that keeps us TAXED.

Exactly.

Who is paying more should be irrelevant. Nobody should be asked to pay more of their money to support another group of people. It isn't right that we've been doing it for corporations, and it isn't right that they should have to do it for anyone else.

I work hard for what I have, and I expect others to do the same.

Corporate welfare comes from the tax breaks and incentives that the Bush administration has showered upon, the oil companies, insurance industry, HALIBURTON and all their subsidiaries, the pharmaceutical industry and the list goes on.

This site explains some of the loopholes that will be closed by Obama. www.fairtaxes4all.org...

I hope your voting for Ron Paul. The progressive tax system will be with us for a while so in the meantime I say we stop subsidizing the richest Americans with the hard earned dollars of the rest of us.

After the Bailout Bill, and the Treasury's and Fed's unlimited spending accounts, it only follows that EVERYONE is going to get taxed more. There is no way around it.

But to add to even more taxes to provide more welfare to more people. NO.

I have looked hard at Obama's tax plan and the people who gain the most from it are the people who already qualify for Earned Income Credit.

You know the people who end up with ZERO tax burden yet still get $4000+ refunds (and they never paid in anything near that amount).

My great grandkids - who haven't even been born yet - will be paying the tax bill created by the Bailout.

Add some more taxes on top of that and no one will be able to afford anything

Obama needs to butt out of my life and what I make and what I choose to do with MY money.

I should be able to do what I want with the money that I work my arse off to make.

I have family members who will be taxed MORE under Obama.......and they do NOT deserve it. They work their arses off to be where they are and for someone to come in and STEAL THEIR MONEY is WRONG!!!

He can shove his "selfishness" comments where the sun don't shine.

In fact, maybe he shouldn't be so selfish and take a big arse pay cut while sitting in the White House while he will be worthless for this country, and give that pay cut to the bums sitting across the street at Lafayette Park.

Liberals don't participate in their own programs.

They want to help people with YOUR money, not their own.

Reminds me of a story a friend emialed me recently...

Father/Daughter Talk - A True Revelation

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so
many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal
Democrat, and was very much in favor of "the redistribution of wealth."

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican,
a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had
participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that
her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what
he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher
taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be
the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how
she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and
let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was
taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She
didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many
college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy
classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popu
lar on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all
the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes
because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's
office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your
friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and
certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired
back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades!
I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done
next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail
off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Speaking of "selfish", let's look at Biden and Obama's charitable contributions.

First Biden:

Adjusted Gross Income Charity Percentage of Income
1998 $215,432 $195 .000905%
1999 $210,797 $120 .000569%
2000 $219,953 $360 .001637%
2001 $220,712 $360 .001631%
2002 $227,811 $260 .001141%
2003 $231,375 $260 .001124%
2004 $234,271 $380 .001622%
2005 $321,379 $380 .001182%
2006 $248,459 $380 .001529%
2007 $319,853 $995 .003111%
Total $2,450,042 $3,690 .001506%

Source, Source

I have given more charity to United Way alone each year than Biden has given each year and my income is 1/3 of his. And that does not include my donations to my alma mater, church tithing, food bank donations, and my Compassion Intl child sponsorship. But the campaign he is a part of is calling us selfish.

And Obama:

2006: 6.1%
2005: 4.7%
2004: 1.2%
2003: 1.4%
2002: 0.4%
2001: 0.5%
2000: 0.9%

Some of the largest donations went to the Trinity United Church of Christ, whose pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., has been in the news for inflammatory messages in his sermons, causing Mr. Obama to distance himself from Mr. Wright, his former spiritual mentor. All told, the couple gave $27,500 to the church in 2005 and 2006. Although the campaign has not released the couple’s 2007 return, it has said the Obamas gave $240,000 to charity in 2007. This compares with charitable donations as low as $1,050 a few years ago.

NY Times

I'm glad Obama has increased his giving as his wealth has increased. Unfortunately most of it is to that disgraced church and Rev Wright. I believe everyone is familiar with the HATE speech and RACIST rhetoric that church spews while hiding behind a pulpit so thanks Obama for supporting and propogating that.

And yes I looked up John McCain's charitable contributions but they are not relevant as John McCain is the one fighting for you to KEEP the money you EARN. Then you can choose whom to be charitable to instead of letting the govt decide for you. Rather than go to Acorn or people on Welfare 8 states away I can donate to United Way where I know the money stays 100% in my community. I can drop off bags of food to the local food bank. I sponsor a family through the Salvation Army at Christmas time. All I'm saying is let me choose where to donate my own hard earned money.

Can anyone say with a straight face the govt is a good steward of handing the money they tax from us? And they want more??

I do not have problems with taxing. I know that many of these things need to be paid for by the people who use them.

I have a problem with Obama's tax ideas. My family should NOT have to pay MORE then the family down the street just because they work their arses off and make more. WRONG.

And if he is going to take MORE of our money, then it is going to prevent me from donating MY money how I see fit, to places I normally donate to: local charities.

I would bet that if someone who knows how to budget and get rid of the CRAP that is spent on everything from office supplies to stupid earmarks, tons of money could be found to make up for the extra money they want to steal from those who "make more".
