Dude, lay down the crack pipe and get back to reality already. What you see going on has little to do with a two party system and more to do with those behind it who are fighting to see who gets to collect the debts that we have been racking up through the spending of worthless pieces of paper. No doubt we will be offered a way out so long as we comply with what *they* want.

The choices we have to face are choices that we each must make as individuals. My choice is not reliant on whether you and I see eye to eye. Until people see that, they no doubt will wait for everyone else to see things their way (politicians, fellow citizens, etc), when really it is either YOUR way or the big boys way. Has nothing to do with "our" way anymore.

Obvioulsy your way is to keep living in your fantasy world that you are some kind of god, angel, giver of life (whatever it is you are claiming cuz I don't speak "crackish" so am still unclear). Good luck ahead with that approach
Hope it works out for you.

You have no idea what it is that I see.

you said: "
You took economics and I taught it at the college level from the time I was 28 until 33".

wow it took them 5 years to figure out your a nut and don't know anything about economics.

Thank god I didn't have you as a teacher for economics.

If I recall I never was told that the U.S.A Has a king???

welcome to the 21st century buddy we in American don't have kings.

You just sound nuttier then a fruitcake.

You really don't know anything about economics and how it works. The only think you know is a dream you had yesterday.

please wake up and smell the coffee. You need to go back to college and that a class on economics before you go all about this King business.

You didn't hear about that, who do you think Huckleberry Finn is then? Its obvious to me that the King, being smarter than you, as you have proven, has created a reality for you to live in where you feel empowered and no need for a King. That way he can live his life without having to be bothered by buffoons; except at his leisure. And only appear when there is a problem with his system.

After Louis XVI was caught because his face was on the money, Kings started to live more private lives. America used to be called France. They didn't tell you that either I bet.

Men don't make Kings, God makes Kings. So, if a King is present it really wasn't your decision in the first place.

Yes wonderland. A place only a King could conceive and create. You live in it, but cannot escape and its obviously contributing to your high stress levels. You feel trapped.

I suppose you figure if what I said is true, you realize that their is no chance for anything you think to come true. The only way to escape this reality is if you build a machine that can travel faster than the speed of light.

I reckon I might as well chuck my two cents worth in, as this appears to have become a free for all (much like the America of late). Keep in mind that these are only my opinions. Your mileage may vary.

America is divided because her children are pulling in too many directions. Like children, too many of them are easily distracted with the latest bauble - or catchphrase. "Change" come to mind. Change what? and more importantly, HOW? Change came to St Petersburg in 1917. didn't work out so well for them. Same goes for Germany in the 1930's, China in 1947, Cuba in 1959, Nicaragua in 1979, the list is endless. My whole point here is that change merely for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing. I'm afraid I'll need something a bit more concrete than a catchphrase. I reckon that's why America's children need to be protected. They have trouble fending for themselves in the real world, where all the pretty baubles break.

There are so many now who chant against THE war, as if they know what a war is. In war, folks get killed and things get broken. That's the nature of it. Now as regards THESE wars, I'm not sure I'd have made the same decisions, but that ain't my job. I'd have erased Afghanistan before moving on to the next target, not started up on two fronts simultaneously. Gotta keep something in reserve for the next time snakes try to crawl under the door. Before I get flamed as a warmonger, I'd like to say that no one hates war more than those who have to fight it. After all, they're the ones who bleed and die. Therefore, it's best to do it like you mean it, and get it over with, so that you can get back to peace, and be abused by those whose lives are owed to you. That's also the nature of the beast.

As regards atheists, I find it sort of ridiculous to have a religion in which there is NO God. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? And before I get flamed for that, I'll state unequivocally that atheism is a belief, nothing more, with no more proof than any other religion. That's the nature of THAT beast. If deity were to be proven or disproven, then all would agree on the matter. God save us from the true believers, and atheists top the list. But, as Fain has already said, you will be protected too, mainly because you are harmless, even when annoying. At least there aren't large numbers of you trying to blow up everyone who disagrees with you.

Do I love America? Of course I do. Do I think it's divided? Of course I do But I don't view the divide the same way most of you seem to. Democrats vs, Republicans? Nah. Those are just ideologies, and I'm not real sure why they're at odds. Frankly, for the last 20 years or so, I can't tell much difference between them. I know you all LIKE to TRY to pick out insignificant points to distinguish between you, but where's the real difference? For the record, I used to be a republican, before the Republican party ran off and left me for dead. I can't find much use for them now, and never could see a purpose to being a Democrat. No, I'm not a marxist or socialist either. I'd head for Obama's camp if I was. Or McCains. don't see much difference there.

Rich vs Poor? Nah. The rich are so outnumbered, they'd not stand a chance if that were the case. The divide appears to me between those who REASON and those who FEEL. That gap probably can't be bridged, but you COULD learn to play nice together, before a spanking come this way.

I gotta go beat my plowshare into a sword now.

shoot, i cant think of anything constructive to say..wait...

im happy to see you love your country and have patriotic feelings.

but try to look back into history. our forefathers were looked upon as traitors once. keep that in mind.

not everyone that isnt christian and republican and share the same ideologies as you is trying to tear apart america. in fact, there is plenty of evidene pointing to the contrary: the christian republicans are the ones effectively breakin America apart.

because there are people who live in this great country who have no agenda but to split us up and no one wants to stop them. They are fear mongers, anarchists, and crazies with no purpose but to hate this country and to consume up our resources in return.
Very shameful. I believe the United States is the best darn country that ever existed on this planet and without democracy, we wouldn't have any freedom or rights. What do you guys think?

Okay...what does your political alignment have to do with this? Also, what does your religious, and or spiritual beliefs have to do with this? It's unnecessary information that is not needed to make your point.

And lastly, their goal is not to "split up America." But to unite it. In fact, their goal is to unite the world...but not the people; the power. The splitting up you may be witnessing, is the weeding out of the assets, and the liabilities.

Boy reading thru hear I hope somebody dropped some bread crumbs to find there way back to the topic. If im not mistaken the op is concerned with how politics divides people. Truth is it can unite as well just find common ground though granted hard to do in election year. This isn't truly an issue about democrats or republicans here's what I mean im a registered democrat. But that doesn't mean I feel we should just get up and leave the Iraqis to the mess we created.
Here's another one for you I believe we needed to go into Iraq. I just don't like being lied to in order to do it. If bush had half a brain he would have appealed to the American public by saying saddam was killing his people violated un resolutions and was a threat to the middle east and needed to be reigned in. Can explain how he killed the Kurds after the 1st golf war pretty much genocide. And Americans would have come around we don't like to see innocent people being killed.

We do however blame the ADMINISTRATION for starting two wars, one of which was started on fabricated lies such as the WMD scandal. Where are these weapons of mass destruction which posed an IMMINENT THREAT at the time and how come we didn't get to see them on tv? With all due respect starting a second war before even finishing the first based on LIES is TREASON and should be punished! Do you see my point?

There IS a difference. From an economic point-of-view democrats support the low and middle class while republicans support "the select few" and the ever dominating multi-national corporations. They neglect the enviroment and needs of the many in favor of PROFIT. How can such a government be acceptable to america let alone the rest of the world?!

Just of curiosity, do you realise that USA and Australia are the only ultra-capitalistic countries and that both don't have national healthcare? Do you also realise that if it was up to the republicans americans would be retiring WITHOUT A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK? Makes me sick just thinking about it!

P.S. You guys need to get over your superiority complex and let the hard working "blue-collar" guys get their fair share of the pie. Affordable health care for everyone! Social security for everyone! College for everyone! ETC...ETC!

This goes a long way toward demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be an atheist. The proof for atheism is the same as the proof for a god? Really? All day today, evidence for atheism passed by. Not once did anything the proved any god happen. This is the kind of completely empty thought that 'christians' use to make themselves feel better about the fact that gods make no sense logically but atheism sure does.

I apologize if I've offended anyone, but it does seem to illustrate the divide in question. Also, I couldn't make the quotes pan out quite right without reposting massive quantities of text, so please bear with me while I do it my way.

first, in reply to earthcitizen07:
you said - "Most people, including myself, don't critcize the soldiers(men and women) who bravely do their job under orders from above. You guys should be commended...duty, honor and country!

Yes, I see your point. That doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I have not done what I have for duty, honor or country. I did it for my family, and my friends. I did it so my son wouldn't have to, but I think I miscalculated there. As long as there are people willing to force others to do what they want 'em to do, there will be people who take exception to that. I don't blame the administration for starting this war, I blame Al Qaida for that. I blame this administration for firing up another, and in my opinion, unneccessary (at this time) war, on another front, and taking their eyes off the ball. Frankly, and this is sure to tick off some, I see no basic difference between folks forcing the "blessings" of democracy on others that want no such thing, and folks forcing the "blessings" of islam on others that want no part of it. I've never been to Iraq, so I have no opinion on what they may want there, but I have been to Afghanistan (in the 80's against the russians) and can tell you that they want no part of democracy. it doesn't suit them. Many things about this administration could be viewed as treasonous, but I wouldn't count miscalculating a war among them. that was just stupid.

You said - "Last I heard America is for everyone regardless of creed, nationality, color, language and religion. Has this changed lately? Is america only for white, rich protestants? I hope not because it doesn't say that in the constitution. Next thing we might see is the KKK parading in Washington...give me a break!"
I don't believe I denied atheists a right to exist, or to believe as they will. If that is how it was taken, I apologized for not speaking clearly. I don't care what folks believe, I'm not them. I was just pointing out that a belief system which denies everything is still only a belief system. I've seen heaps of bodies that said, without speaking a word, that people should be left alone to believe as they wish. That right ends where my right to be left alone begins. Same for my rights and their right to be left alone. For the record, I'm neither white nor rich, so that charge doesn't apply. The powers that be have used the Constitution for toilet paper for the last 18 years, so what it says matters only as far as people are willing to enforce what it says. For 18 years they have been unwilling to enforce it.

You said - "There IS a difference. I'm Lower class (some say I have NO class), and have NEVER been supported by a democrat, in anything. I do, however, have friends who are now dead, and one maimed for life, because democrats supported labor unions - because that's where some of the lower class folks put their money. They're all politicians, and they all follow the money. And they're welcome to look down their nose at me long as they don't touch me.

America is for EVERYONE because that's the way it was started 3 centuries ago. Get used to it!

Why do I need to compare America to anything? Aren't those other countries separate entities, with their own culture? Why would I want America to conform to their wants, any more than I should expect them to comply to American norms? Why should I want the government to look after MY healthcare? They haven't really done a bangup job in many other areas of control. And make no mistake, national healthcare is just another means of control. The government can give us nothing that it hasn't first taken away. BTW, I've already been assured that I will retire without a social security check. Uncle Sam is keeping it all to cover my student loans, as well as helping himself to an extra 300.00 a month out of my paycheck for the rest of my life to cover same. I reckon I miscalculated there too.
Yes, I'm aware of the difference between communists and socialists. In my younger days, i Fought communists, and sat around drinking beer and debating with socialists. They're not bad folks, but then most of the PEOPLE living under communist rule weren't bad folks either.
I don't see where I am superior to you, or anyone else. Matter of fact, I don't have any desire to be superior to anyone. Different, yes, as in I have my opinions and you have yours, but not superior. I AM blue collar. over the years I've been many things, from a warehouseman to a radio DJ, but nowadays I'm a security guard - and lemme tell you, you don't get rich or powerful in that line of work. I got my fair share of the pie, and worked for every dime of it. Nobodys fault but my own if I squandered it, and I don't expect anyone to GIVE me anything.
300 years ago, "americans" (they were called "colonials" then nearly 100 years to go to get to America) were real busy trying to kill my people off or "resettle" them on the most worthless land they could find, so hard working americans could have the best. Can't quite wrap my head around how america was set up to be for "all" at that point, but that was then and this is now.
Be that as it may, I love this land, and will still fight for my friends and my family, because this is MY homeland, in common with millions more.

on to Tiamanichus:

You seem to be conflating "evidence" with "proof". They are not the same thing, as any competent scientist will tell you. Furthermore, you should not assume that any individual that believes in a deity of some sort is a christian. It's illogical to think that something can be gotten from nothing, with no motivating force.

How can it possibly be that you have seen PROOF that there is NO God?

How is it that something that IS can prove that something else IS NOT?

Can't you see the how ridiculous is your belief in Atheism? You stated that something or someone or some event that did in fact take place proves that something else is not. I really must know what is it that exists for certain and who's existence stands as testimony to the notion that something else must not exist.

The, is the name of God. Gods name, The, appears in the name of your religion. You speak his name when you describe something about yourself, yet in your next breath you say he does not exist - thus you negate your own existence. Yet we all know that you are here.

Its not God that you don't believe in, Its you that you don't believe in.

billyjoinedat is a classic example of the "people" that truly believe that everything is relative. There is no good or evil, it is all relative.

In their eyes, Hitler and the Nazi's are the moral equivalent of Mother Theresa and her nuns. After all, their opinions about what are right and wrong are just as valid as those "Christians", aren't they?

The US is bad because it is big, powerfull and isn't socialist. We consume too much, and we have this terrible tendency to stop countries that are trying to take over others. After all, it is none of our business. War is never right, no matter what. These folks would never have tried to stop Hitler, or Stalin. War is evil, and gee I might get hurt.

After all, the communist ideal is the only truth, right. To each according to his need. These educated fools actually believe that they are owed a living, and that it is wrong to benefit from your own hard work.

They have no moral sense higher than their own individuality. Countries are meaningless, it is only what affects ME that really matters.
