This is a sad news story if has much truth to it. However I can't take much of Pravda seriously. It's nothing but the Russian Enquirer.

Its Russian propaganda, look at RussiaToday its all articles to make the Russian people think Georgians are the scum of the earth. Russia also said a city was pulverized by Georgian bombing, when they knew it was their own bombing.

This article is bs, Russia is trying to keep this a war on terror.

Thanks for the link. I went and translated that page from Russian to English. Top paragraph says:

Orthodox Georgians burned in the temple with people Hetagurovo
In the village of South Ossetia Hetagurovo burned down the temple of the Holy Virgin.
This unique H-century Orthodox temple was a monument to the history of South Ossetia,
one of its spiritual centres.
Inside the temple, said Osradio, discovered the remains of the elderly. August 8,
as a result of fierce resistance Pali village, all defenders.
During the battle of the old village decided to take refuge in the temple.
People, apparently hoping to God patronage, the fact
that the Georgian soldiers who have also, like,
consider themselves Orthodox people, not touched them in the temple.
It appears, however,
that Georgian troops had burned people alive, along with the temple.

and bottom paragraph right directly above the pictures says:

The State Committee on Information and Press Republic of South Ossetia
circulated a photo of the village Hetagurovo,
which for two days been subjected to intense shelling
by the Georgian armed forces.
According to the source, four residential houses completely burnt,
approximately 25% of residential buildings in varying degrees destroyed.
Two residents of the village were killed - older men and women,
two more were wounded.

Those may be pictures of the very account in question in the OP.

An excellent article here from a fellow formerly a part of the Reagan administration and former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal. As usual, the U.S. is making a mess of things over there. Even Saakashvili is saying: “This is not about Georgia any more. It is about America, its values.”

President Bush, Will You Please Shut Up

Back in the Reagan years the National Endowment for Democracy was created as a cold war tool. Today the NED is a neocon-controlled agent for US world hegemony. Its main function is to pour US money and election-rigging into former constituent parts of the Soviet Union in order to ring Russia with American puppet states.

The neoconservative Bush Regime used the NED to intervene in Ukrainian and Georgian internal affairs in keeping with the neoconservative plan to establish US-friendly and Russia-hostile political regimes in these two former constituent parts of Russia and the Soviet Union.

The Bush Regime, having established a puppet, Mikhail Saakashvili, as president of Georgia, tried to bring Georgia into NATO.

The entire world, except for Americans, knows that the outbreak of armed conflict between Russian and Georgian forces in South Ossetia was entirely due to the US and its Georgia puppet, Saakashvili. Americans, alone in the world, are unaware that the hostilities were initiated by Saakashvili, because Bush, Cheney and the Israeli-occupied American media have again lied to them.

Everyone else in the world knows that the unstable and corrupt Saakashvili, who proclaims democracy and runs a police state, would not have taken on Russia by attacking South Ossetia unless given the go-ahead by Washington.

The purpose of the Georgian attack on the Russian population of South Ossetia is twofold:

To convince Europeans that their action in delaying Georgia’s NATO membership is the cause of “the Russian aggression” and that to save Georgia from conquest Georgia must be given NATO membership.

To ethnically cleanse South Ossetia of its Russian population. Two thousand Russian civilians were targeted and killed by the US-equipped and trained Georgian Army, and tens of thousands fled into Russia. Having achieved this goal, Saakashvili and his puppet-masters in Washington quickly called for a cease fire and a halt to “the Russian invasion.” The hope is that the Russian population will be afraid to return or can be prevented from returning, thus removing the secessionist threat.

Writing in the Asia Times, Ambassador M. K. Bhadrakumar, a former career diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service, notes the disinformation that is being peddled by the Bush Regime and the US media and reports that “at the outbreak of violence, Russia had tried to have the United Nations Security Council issue a statement calling on Georgia and South Ossetia to immediately lay down weapons. However, Washington was disinterested.”

It is certain that the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia was a Bush Regime orchestrated event. The American media and the neocon think tanks were ready with their propaganda blitzes. Neocons had ready a Wall Street Journal editorial page article for Saakashvili that declares “the war in Georgia is a war for the West.”

Faced with the collapse of his army when Russia sent in troops to protect South Ossetians from the Georgian troops, Saakashvili declared: “This is not about Georgia any more. It is about America, its values.”

Does anyone really believe that the CIA told the VP that Russia opened the conflict with an invasion? Russian troops arrived in South Ossetia after thousands of Ossetians had been killed by the Georgian attack and after tens of thousands of Ossetians had fled into Russia to escape the Georgian attack.

US ambassador to UN: "We were not consulted."

From www.huffingtonpost.com...

"We hear a lot of propaganda. We've heard the U.S. gave the green light to this operation... I have nothing specific with regards to these reports, but I would not conclude that they are true. We did not have any prior knowledge or were not consulted by Georgia."

Well maybe the UN wasn't consulted, but I have a hard time believing the WH or Israel knew nothing about the Georgian plans to attack S.O.

In another report, a supposed map was seized outlining Georgian plans to attack Abkahzia

Pravda is propaganda for sure.....
Just take a few moments and look at the "objective stories they have floating around. I found this gem in under two minutes...

Ask anyone in the Caucasus region, and they will tell you never to trust a Georgian because they would shake your hand with a smile and then stab you in the back.

Sounds like news to me!

I wonder if they are the Fox News Caucasus region affiliate???

Hah typical cold war mentality, you will gladly accept the Russians as the bad guys because you want to, you will not even bother to research the truth as you rather believe the lies as they suit your views better.

From Russia Today:

www.russiatoday.com...

Captured map shows Georgia planned to invade Abkhazia
Russian troops have discovered what they believe are plans for an invasion of Abkhazia in a captured Georgian command post vehicle. On Wednesday, Abkhazian armed forces succeeded in pushing Georgian troops out of the Upper Kodori Gorge in anticipation of such an attack.

For the past few days the spotlight has been on Georgia's other breakaway republic, South Ossetia.

But the captured documents apparently outline steps for the invasion of Abkhazia, a region twice the size of South Ossetia, bordering the Black Sea.

While this has more to do with plans to attack Abkhazia, if true, there can be no doubt as to who really instigated this mess. Nah, surely Russian intelligence just slammed this fake together and sent it to Russia Today.

All those refugees into Russia says something about reports of incidents like the one in OP. They might well be true.

I agree with you that the direction that ethnic refugees are fleeing is a very tell tale sign, but a great deal of skepticism is required of all reports in any such situation. The casualty of war is the truth. From what I’ve gathered, this conflict was a test by USA/Israel/NATO to check Russian resolve. I think we have our answer. In fact I would expect to see Rootin Tootin Putin use this to his utmost advantage, which may well mean Russian domination of the Caucasus once again.

Yeah, I've thought about that too, but the Russians have warned Georgia many times that any attack on those provinces would bring war. If they were testing Russia, that was a pretty expensive test- 2,000 lives, and 30,000 refugees. How can humanity be this insensitive? Demented is more like it.

Still, it's no excuse for the Georgians to go in and massacre civilians. If NATO really wants to test Russia, then why not just throw a contingent of American military in to seize the pipeline from the Caspian Sea to Turkey, for example?

Why do innocent civilians have to keep paying with their lives for the ventures of politicians? I stand by my signature.

In regards to the link to the pictures ..

First of all the "Church" Sure as hell doesn't look like any church i have ever seen. It looks like a house.

Second. 2 bodes were shown.. only 1 of them showed signs of being burned. The other one had the top of his head missing. (a wound that would be constant with shrapnel)

Third .. All photo's of the so called "Church" show damage that would happen in a war zone.

If you look at the 3rd picture down
s55.radikal.ru...
You will see obvious signs of some sort of indirect fire .. IE Artillery or maybe Rockets etc.. The iron/steal wall/gate/fence shows holes from shrapnel and the so called churches walls also do.

Shrapnel is hot and can easily start fires.. I see no evidence at all to substantiate that the building was purposefully "Set on fire"

I must say .. The propaganda champagne involved in this little war has been most impressive. I would not be surprised at all if many government spooks are involved in it.

Well isn't it funny how the Russians now have something to justify this?! A map and a few markings and it is supposed to justify genocide and continuing to bomb Georgia even after Russia agreed to the ceasefire? How is this "map" supposed to be trusted? And if this is really all they have, why would they use it as a justification for war? The war had already begun before the world heard anything about this. Couldn't this have been a plan for Georgia to simply defend itself against a hostile Russian invasioN???

Russia having the freedom to protect its territory is one thing. Russia continuing to push into Georgia even after the ceasefire is another. It doesn't add up at all..And the more this continues the worse Russia looks in the eyes of the international community (If they even ever cared at all what the world thinks). Without oil, Russia is basically bankrupt. And look at what is going on with the oil crisis.. IMO this is one reason for the conflict.. The global situation has made ALL political leaders pretty uneasy..Except for president Bush..

This is basically what Bush has done.. He went to the olympics, screwed around and slapped some volleyball player on the butt, then he make himself look like a complete idiot in front of the world on National televisoin in an interview with Bob Costas..He was happy, smiling, jovial as if nothing was ever wrong (this has been par for the coarse throughout his presidency). Men and women are dying in Iraq, We now have a critical conflict unfolding between Georgia and Russia (and the surrounding nations) and everything else going on like the economy, the oil crisis, etc.. He looks like he couldn't be happier! And after the olympic trip, guess where he was gonna go? ON VACATION?!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY?! He must think that just because its an election year he can ignore doing his job.. UNFRIGGIN believable this guy.. And he wonders why he is the most unpopular president in American history??

It's one thing to see military dead, military vehicles and installations blown up. That's war at a more palatable, but still loathsome state. But seeing dead civilians and the destruction of private property, like we see in Palestine, they are clearly attacks on the populace. And from what I've been reading almost all on ethnic Ossetians too.

So can one really blame some Ossetians who subsequently went and raided Georgian homes in return, but still left the people alive and unharmed? Wasn't it Bush himself that said he looked into Putin's eyes and felt like he was a man Bush could trust? Why am I still getting the feeling with everything I am reading that the Russians are telling it more like it is than any of the western media who would have us believe that Russia out of nowhere decided to invade Georgia?

In a recent report I saw a former White House press secretary admit to disseminating to the media "talking points." The US appears to be trying to convince its people that there is a reason to go after Russia now. I wonder if all this could be because of the planned attack on Iran. It could be the planners have decided that Russia will intervene, and may be planning preemptive strikes on Russia while at the same time striking Iran/Syria in a huge combined offensive. So maybe they need a reason to include Russia now. A reason like oil.

The Russian tanks were conveniently close to the border in such numbers when the need to "rescue Russian citizens" arose. It reminds me of the Sudetenland and later when "the Polish cavalry attacked Germany" and the Germans counter attacked halfway through Poland in a few days.

The Russians forgot to bring their grievances to the United Nations! Maybe they didn't think it was necessary to bring their grievances to the impotent United Nations!

The Russians had the justification with Georgia attacking S.O. civilians. Not only that, but they had warned Georgia repeatedly not to attack S.O., that they would fight. And they were ready for it. That's why they got there so quick.

As to the map, who knows if it's real.

Ceasefire violations? That's a hard one to call too. In a war zone.

I am not sure either on those reports of Russia continuing to advance into Georgian territory. I have seen some videos to that effect. But the Russians are screaming that those are baseless reports. Once I spot lies and spin, why should I believe anything else the western media is going to report on this story? They clearly have an agenda. And it appears to be working.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY?! He must think that just because its an election year he can ignore doing his job.. UNFRIGGIN believable this guy.. And he wonders why he is the most unpopular president in American history??

What is wrong? He must of left his goat story book back at the WH. He seems to take the horns though everywhere he goes.
