See, now that's a bunch of bullcrap. Senators and Congressmen have always been allowed to turn those cameras on and zoom them in on the podium to make these grandoise speeches to a completely empty house under the assumption the average viewer will see them and believe they're talking to all of Congress and think "Holy cow, look at the balls on my representative! He's really letting them swing in front of his peers!"

Why is it that when something actually worth recording and airing to the American people occurs they aren't broadcasting? I need to investigate that, actually. Makes me wonder if Nancy Pelosi ultimately has final say over when the cameras roll and when they don't. If so that's complete crap and amounts to censorship and abuse of power.

What many don't seem to realize is that the dems are ignoring this issue in order to protect Obama before the election because it is a lose-lose issue for him.

If it is made into an election issue and Obama says he favors drilling, then he risks offending his far left power base.

But if Obama comes out against drilling to keep his power base happy, he riskd alienating the rest of the voters that he needs to win.

One more sad example of dems using their ends justify the means manifesto. Doesn't matter if it ends up hurting us all, as long as they can make a political "win" for themselves.

You are right and you forgot one more reason:

If the Dem's would agree to start drilling, oil prices would take a nose dive, then that would be one less issue they have during the election especially since it would help the slow down of the economy. It's sad that they would want to hurt the American people just to win an election. Sad and pathetic!

Also don't discount the fact that the Dems want those higher pump prices to stay as robust as possible leading into election under the belief that it will translate into continued anger at Bush and, by default, his buddy McCain.

I heard on the news that Pelosi does have the final word regarding the cameras. If true, I totally agree it's censorship and abuse of power.

As if the Republicans don't do the same damn thing when it's their turn. Dirty politicians should all be tossed out and replaced with a bunch of people off the unemployment rolls.

Total and utter crap on her part. I can understand having some control over special hearings and such when issues of national security are on the table... but in cases like this it's a slap in the face of America. "We don't like what's being said because it makes us look like asses, so we're not going to allow the American people to see it." Nice, and people claim the Bush adminstration censors information from the American people? HA!

i don't get it, why can't they just walk over and flip the switch for the lights and microphones?
i think this is grandstanding "hey look at us, we are for the people.." blah blah blah, you should have tought of that when you guys were in charge OF THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT! and failed to do anything worth a damm!

but...i think this is going to make the dems look like..
"screw you, we are going on vacation! we have an expense account that buys our gas so what do we care"

Love the comments here.

Another thing...is it just me or is this going completely ignored by the MSM? I'm at work and can't turn on the TV so I don't know, but I don't see anything on the major outlets sites.

Still waiting on the usual crowd by the way....

I have seen it reported on FoxNews and heard it reported on the radio during top of the hour news breaks.

Don't worry, they will be here, once they wake up.

This whole issue is a joke...for both sides. The republicans would rather drill for oil (off the coast) than end speculation and the dems would rather vacation then address the issue(s).

Then there's oil companies showing the biggest profits in American history, no they dont have anything at all to do with this.

Plain and simple we are being raped by the whole system and there doesnt appear to be anything to do about it.

I applaud the Republicans for finally making a stand against the Democrats in power.

Only the didn't feel the need to "take a stand" the last 40 years or so the WERE in power. I don't believe they showed any urgency in the run-up to this.....

So why now?

Good on her!

Off shore drilling is a sham and although I know the line up of posters here (by and large) are regular ATS right wingers who will undoubtedly no t believe the truth, there it is.

There is no capacity here in the USA to process any more crude than we are already processing so what is drilling for more going to do? Not much!

I also loved seeing the "just talking about drilling brought prices down so imagine what drilling will do" comment. Wow, that some actually believe this is amazing. This is after all only a "mental recession"

Oil will be around for a long time as it will be difficult to replace them altogether. Still we have a growing responsibility to preserve the integrity of the planet. enviro-nazi you may call me, but I just laugh because comparing me and my environmental integrity to the nazis just exposes the simple minded nature of those who oppose protecting the planet.

The republicans are just trying to rally their base for the elections and then they will be back to the same old same old one they get their offices back. But hey it looks like it works!

Why not now?

What difference does it make when they decide to do it as long as they decide to do it.

I'll be the first to admit the Republicans have shamed themselves and completely strayed from their values over the last many years. In fact I've all but disowned the party and just refer to myself as a Conservative.

The fact remains though....they are doing something now.

OK, please enlighten the rest of us on the "real" reason oil prices have recently dropped.
Tell us something beyond that it was merely coincidental to to discussion of possible increasing supply - and back it up.

Remember how supply and demand works?

This is nothing but worthless grandstanding. You think the republicans are doing this for you? They are there for the oil companies. Yet you cheer even when they rake in record breaking profits. Why don't you all just hand over your wallet to Exxon and beg them to take your money?

And I thought you were all against redistribution of wealth.

Drilling is doing at least something to try and solve the problem. Right now it's obvious that neither party is doing much of anything.

The whole "drilling" issue is as much useless political posturing as saying "rabble rabble rabble" with the mics off and light out.

Just how did Granny Pelosi ever reach that position of power? She comes across as the somewhat less than capable and somewhat more than annoying head of the local PTA.

The Democrats have found their own version of dumbya, and he's a she.

Isn't it great that they value their August recess more than the health of the nation, liberals

This is the topic of every talk radio show. The Democrats are so arrogant that they think this will blow over with no repercussions. I say, they will pay dearly!

Latest polls show that Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of new drilling. Even California and Florida have swung around and now favor drilling off heir shores.

Nancy Pelosi has today spit on parliamentary procedure. She has declared her desire to run our Congress more like the Russians ran their Politburo.

Something needs to be done to Pelosi. Impeachment is in order! What is the procedure for removing a Speaker of the House?
