I'm not so disturbed by the decapitation itself, I'm more disturbed by the people on the bus not helping, what a bunch of jerks I hope it haunts there minds till the day they die.

This is terrible. What disturbs me the most is the fact that nobody in the bus tried to save him. What is it, like 30 people against 1 guy with a knife! It's not like he had a machine gun or something.

Too many people have become way too dependant on authority figures these days. Pathetic...

Great point Striker122, however people have been trained in the last few decades to behave in this manner. People used to think strong about community and the people that lived there with them. Now, people are so consumed with prospering, and getting ahead in life and not stopping to enjoy what they have as opposed to what they CAN have. A single sacrifice that is witnessed by a large number of people is easier to remove yourself from blame.

I watched a study a long time ago on television that showed a person who had fallen off a curb in obvious pain. The guy who fell was an actor and they were testing peoples reactions. When there were a few people on the street walking and the guy fell, usually the only witness would stop to help. On the otherhand, if the sidewalk was crowded shoulder to shoulder with people nobody would stop to help him. They just continued walking past not offering any assistance.

I guess it is easier to turn your cheek when everyone else is doing it... People have learned to "not get involved" or "mind your own business". Personally, I'd be the guy doing what I could to help the victim because I would just wish that someone would help me in a situation like that. I guess we have to rethink respecting each other and helping your fellow man again as opposed to worrying selfishly how to succeed at the expense of others.

why waste your life for a deadly wounded person? he was stabbed in the throat multiple times with a big knive. what whould you accomplish if you survive the confrontation with the armed madman? the best outcome for the victim would be suffocation by his own blood. I'd rather help the other ppl to leave the bus asap and isolate the bastard, which is probably what they did.

Of couse i feel sorry for the victim but there is nothing that anybody could have done to save his life after the first couple of stabs, probably delivered in the same amount of time you need to raise from your seat.

yeah, quite rational and i must admit that i have some thoughts of heroic intervention like strangling the attacker with headphone cables while another bus passenger tries to control his kinve arm
, but seriously picking a fight would have only made sense if he went on to attack more passengers, but this didnt happen or was prevented.

very sick story though...

I just had to give in and open this thread. My god, what in the world is going on with ppl?

The dude that committed this horrific act deserves nothing less than what he dished out. (All you -generalized- sick humanist "save the attacker" ppl can rot in hell w/ the attacker).

There is nothing I want to contemplate further about on this topic. My heart just dropped straight into my stomach.

I agree Peepers...If only one of those 37 passengers had been carrying a concealed handgun, this piece of garbage could have been eliminated and an innocent life saved.

Woah...

That is some seriously disturbing news.

What on earth could bring a man to behead a stranger?

Why was he acting so calmly? Kinda reminds me of that guy who shot up the college in the US, y'know the guy who remained totally calm when he killed his class mates...

As some people have stated, surely there'd be rage or at least some dark passion or emotion on the guys face.... but no, just calm.

I think that is what chills me the most.

Also, to all the posters here who have bravely stated they would've done something about it, please stop kidding yourselves.... Unless you were there, you really wouldn't know how to react, so please quit it with the macho talk as you sit behind your keyboards...

Poor guy... I'm gobsmacked.

Ugh, I live not to far from where this happened. What a horrible story, sounds like a bad movie. I woke up to find this this morning, and was completely disgusted. The news is around everywhere and everyone is talking about it. Sure, there is alot of crime in Winnipeg, but nothing as brutal as this. Some people are really sick, I don't really know what else to call it. I don't know if this has been said already, but supposedly the attacker raised the "decapitated" head and taunted police with it before getting arrested.

This man sure is getting the attention he wanted. It's not often a story from Manitoba or Winnipeg ends up on the front page of CBC, BBC America, CNN, ATS, and 4th most dugg story in Digg...

My two daughters 16-17 were traveling to Winnipeg from the North. I was sickened by this news. Its shocking. Sorry but unarmed against a clearly unbalanced individual ? It's easy to pass judgment whilst sitting at your computer screen. The victim was killed quickly. If my daughters were on that bus not sure I'd want a hero trying to control a clearly sick individual. The bus was stopped and the passengers filed out. The killer and victim remained on the bus.

Absolutely grueling... especially with the added info that he was totally calm. Someone in here mentioned the term "demon-possessed"... that was my first thought.

No, you misconstrued my meaning of "save the attacker" comment. I was merely talking about ppl that would want to take compassion on the sicko by letting him sit out the rest of his life living off of tax payers money. Also, I am very much a supporter of an eye for an eye in these types of situations.

As for the other passengers? I have not mentioned one word on this thread about how I would judge them bc that is not my place.

I told my wife this exact same thing on the way home tonight.

No rage.
Methodical in the killing. Gutting and decapitating...ritualistic?

Premeditated or possessed?

I'm not one to throw around the demon possession theory lightly, but I'd sure consider it in this case.

Also got to thinking about what will happen next with mass transportation security. Metal detectors in all bus stations? Show us your papers please?

Even though this was close to a "top" story earlier this afternoon, 20 years ago this would have been THE top story.

No need to apologize. I am with ya on all the judgements being passed on the other passengers. I would like to think that someone could have been a hero, but my god.......... again, there are no words to express what a horrific scene that must have been. Unless ppl could be allowed to arm themselves (WHICH THEY SHOULD!!!!), I don't see what exactly could have been done other than another person being killed in the same brutal way.

Hmmm... Do you think he's going to plead temporary insanity?

This sickens me to my stomach. I cant even imagine the effect this has had on the children on the bus. Definitely a traumatizing experience for sure.

I'm leaning towards Mind Control/Demon Possession as well. The way the person turned off and the machine turned on is way indicative to me that there were outside sources at work. I have to include multiple personality disorder as well.
This is all speculation, of course, until we learn more about the guy, but, it just screams "fishy".

My $.02

When I heard about this, I got the inclination of some sort of MKULTRA project. Hey.... this is a conspiracy forum, right?

I wonder if this truly was random. We would have to know more about the victim and the murderer.

I bet the media is going to blame it all on weed (Reefer Madness anyone).

And what does this teach us??

1. NEVER RIDE A BUS
2. NEVER FALL ASLEEP IN PUBLIC
3. ALWAYS CARRY A GUN

Had this guy been awake at the least he could have taken this knife nut with him to the other side. If I had just one breath left in my body I would have put a 230 grain SXT into his gut before I went out.
