It actually looks like a Past Grand Master's jewel to me. Those are what the ones in New Jersey look like.

if so, then it's a huge deal instead of just a big one.

Thanks for your reply. That's a good idea to contact the lodge in Chicago he was affiliated with. I doubt anyone would still be living that knew him, though. I should also contact the one that was named after my great-great grandfather. I believe its in Pennsylvania.

Hello! This metal (see pic) was what initially lead me to ATS. I was extremely close to my maternal grandparents and was my grandmothers primary caregiver (with the help of an RN that'd fill in for me while I was working) the last three years of her life. During that time, she's casually give me an item with sentimental value. A cameo ring my grandfather surprised her with in Italy and a pearl necklace she inherited from her mother (my g-gma), are a couple examples of this family mementoes. Nothing necessarily extravigant but they held great memories.
Anyways, one day she gave me a few things that were from my grandpas side of the family. His physics degrees from University of Illinois and NorthWestern University. Some appolo memorabilia he recieved for his contribution to those missions as an aerospace engineer. Then she has me the metal in the picture that was my grandfathers fathers. On the back it says his name and "worshipful master." What is a worshipful master? I don't know much about my GGrandfather except he held some type of federal position, in Chicago, along the lines of a treasurer. His father (my great, great grandfather) had a Mason lodge named after him.
i understand this metal is not particularly fascinating , to anyone besides me but would appreciate any info that could be provided. It's about 2.5 to 3 inches in length and the gold must be authentic.

Worshipful Master would indicate this to be a Past Master's Jewel, if it was a Grand Master's Jewel the correct title would be Most Worshipful Master (other Grand Lodge positions would be conferred Right Worshipful).

Judging by the "81" on the hangar, this would be the year of his time in the East, and should help you with any pursuit of details. For this to be a Past Grand Master's Jewel from Illinois, it would have belonged to MWB Norman R. Buecker.

Regardless, it is a wonderful piece of memorabilia, and should be treasured by you and your family.

That is amazing.
It appears to be clear quartz at the center.
The above stone, which looks blue in the picture, may be rainbow moonstone, hard to say.
I use Lapis Lazuli - Cayce used it in his readings, very "3rd-Eye" oriented, but it's a dark and thick stone.
Could be Iolite, but usually more purple/violet.
Very cool, let me know if you know or find out what the stones are, thanks!

what takes so long? We have the petition, the investigation, the initiation, the reciting the work (1st degree), then passing, then reciting the work (2nd degree), then raising, (then optional, reciting the work 3rd degree). the time factor is in how long it takes an individual to remember his work and recite it.

What takes so long - actually, even longer, in other Orders - is study, experience, experimentation, learning, growing.
What takes LESS time - MUCH less, in other Orders depending on one's pace, of course - is acquiring "operative" knowledge, studies, experiences, teachings, and spiritual growth.

From what I understand, anyway, and one of many reasons for choosing other orders over Masonry, but of course, correct me if I'm in any way mistaken, but please provide examples of how so, of course.

Has anyone seen some of the youtube videos/comments claiming the Kardashians are Freemasons and the Freemasons are behind Lamar Odom's OD? It seems like any some what popular celebrity can't od/die without someone trying to tie in a secret society behind it.

There was a picture of the Kardashians with a black and white tile floor, so........they must all be masons.

That was a few years ago, back when Bruce was still a man and all. I don't believe any of them are masons. But surely they are all high up in the Illuminati and in charge of the Vatican.

The steps to become a master mason aren't all that cumbersome, but once you are a master mason, then you start to learn and understand what it is, you have become. Sadly, there is an opportunity for the individual to not do anything else, and never really learn the big picture.

It's like anything and you get out what you put in. Nobody hands you an envelope with the secrets in them. I feel like it's more of a stepping stone to more knowledge and without making the initial investment (time and effort), you haven't shown that you are ready.

Ok gotcha, thanks for clarifying.
And funny post above as well

My apologies about that, because where I have managed to shed the habit of speaking about that which I do not know first hand, I was speaking on the experience of a friend in his lodge, and I trusted this story.
What I failed to realize, is that I use him as an example in my first book as well as the 2nd I'm writing now, of what NOT to do, is that he is one of those you speak of, who just didn't make it.
So as always thank you for making me think and learn. Only reason to stay on this site these days.

Hello and thank you for your thread .

On the most recent episode of Ghost Hunters they investigated a Masonic lodge which used to be a mansion.
My question is , in the main room where the meetings are held there is a pentacle up by the main seat , if I remember correctly inside the pentacle is a pentagon , also the pentacle is upside down , just stating how it was , no judgements.
So , what is the deal with that ?
thank you...

In masonry there is symbolism that is taught during different degrees. The Blazing star is one of them, and is usually displayed on the floor. (a checkered black and white floor)

The Eastern Star is a group started by masons that includes women. (usually a wife or daughter) They usually meet in the lodge, but have their own symbolism. A star is their main symbol.
en.wikipedia.org...

If you find a picture online of the symbols you are referring to, please post a link and one of us will be sure to explain what we can about it.

Ive read somewhere that Albert Pike was a prominent Mason who went on rampages against native Indians, is it true?
Is there any native Indians in the freemasonry today?

We don't keep track of race or ethnicity. I couldn't tell you the exact number.

The only thing I know is that Pike had defended Native Americans in court prior to Civil War and was appointed Commissioner of Native American Tribes by Jeffferson Davis. I'm not sure what exact tribe it was that he lead into battles, but it may have been Cherokee.

The link I gave earlier is a degree team out of Oklahoma.
