Great thread -- and so much fun to read through everyone's experiences. I thought I'd share two of the stranger events that I've lived through.
I've had other odd things happen to me, but they can be fairly easily explained by conventional paranormal theories (i.e. "the house was haunted").
These two things were completely different from my usual experiences.
1. About eight years ago, I was living in the historic part of my home town. I had a friend who lived about eight blocks up the street from me, and
one day I decided to take a walk up the street to see her. By the time I got started, the sun was getting low in the sky, but there was still plenty
of daylight left.
I started walking down the street, and about half way to my friend's house, I was passed by five police cars with sirens blaring and lights flashing.
They skidded to a stop about half a block in front of me. I began to walk faster, not wanting to be anywhere near whatever was going on. Just after
I passed the house where the cop cars stopped, I crossed a street and saw a man walking towards me.
He was wearing work boots, jeans, and a flannel shirt (which was a little weird for a summer day in Louisville, KY). I was still focused on getting
away from the cop altercation behind me, so I didn't pay much attention to him until he spoke to me. He stopped a couple of feet in front of me and
pointed to the cop cars behind me and said, "What's going on over there?"
The moment he spoke, I heard a voice in my head say, "Don't look at him, don't stop to talk to him, don't have anything to do with him, just keep
moving." This startled me enough that (of course) I hesitated a moment and looked at his face. His face was completely normal, except that his left
eye was about four times the size of a normal eye. His right eye was normal size, but his left was HUGE.
My feet faltered but I kept moving, saying, "Looks like some kind of crazy domestic dispute or something." I didn't turn my head as I passed him
and just marched on by. After about taking five steps, I stopped. The whole situation was so strange that I had to take another look at the fellow I
passed. I glanced over my shoulder and he was gone.
I stopped and turned around and walked back up to the corner I'd just passed. I looked in every yard on both sides of the street and I looked down
the intersecting street. Within the span of time it took me to take five steps, the guy had completely disappeared without a trace.
He had appeared completely solid, not ghostly or otherworldly in any way. The only weird thing about him had been his huge left eye. But he had
somehow managed to vanish in however long it took me to take five quick steps.
2. The second weird thing took place several years before my run-in with the strange-eyed man. I was 18 years old, and a good friend of mine and I
would often go to an underage dance club in town. The club didn't sell liquor, and neither she nor I used drugs of any sort. I would go to the club
with her to watch her complete in dance competitions. One night, a competition went late, and I was driving home around midnight. We had taken
separate cars that night, which was unusual.
I was rushing home and driving down a stretch of double-laned road that was bordered by fields on the right side and widely-spaced houses on the left.
There weren't a lot of street lights. There was no other traffic on the road. Suddenly, my car was bathed in light. It was like someone was
shining a spotlight down on the roof of my car. I slowed down and peered up into the sky, where I could see a bright light, but nothing else.
I pulled over and got out of the car to see if it was a helicopter or something else. There was no sound, no wind, just a bright light shining down
on me and the car.
(To be continued)
