Well as long as the god damn war-mongering yanks are still helping the Israeli's then war will be the outcome I'm afraid...

Why, oh why does America love Israel so much?

Shame on the leaders, the generals and those in positions of power who are pushing for this kind of oblivion...

I hope it backfires in Israel and America's face, just so the rest of the world has a chance...

This is likely to be a really unpopular opinion. (And it is just an opinion)

I am so sick of all the threats, and the mid-east "crisis," (which has been going on for the entirety of my life) that I really dont care if Israel and Iran blow each other off the face of the planet. I know it will screw up the environment if they nuke each other, I know it will drive oil prices sky high and thus wreck our economy even further. I know it will cause the deaths of lots of innocent people, and will probably drag Pakistan and India into the fray. (As well as the western countries at some point) I know the disruption in oil will begin a chain reaction that will cause food prices to skyrocket and create major problems in the rest of the world. I know all the horrible things that will happen if these yahoos start a nuclear exchange, I know there is a very good possibility that I, (or bunches of Americans in general) will also suffer and die from the chain of events if all these things happen. I just dont care anymore.

I would rather let the poop hit the fan and have us to have to finally deal with the harsh realities of us living the way we have been, blind and deaf to the dangers of letting megalomaniacs run countries and our own mindless consumption, than to continue on the way we currently are. Unfortunately, I think the only way human beings are ever going to stop sleepwalking through life is if we are faced with the possibility of our very extinction in an immediate and brutal way. I have been listening to all the ways war, or famine, or fallout, or environmental collapse, etc., could kill me since I can remember anything at all. I am not afraid of any of it. A lifetime of hearing it on almost a daily basis has totally blunted any possible fear from those areas. I am more afraid of having to live the rest of my natural life being buffeted by fear mongers and threats, and bullies, and the greed and corruption not only of our leaders here in the US but of the rest of the world as well, than I am of the horrific event itself. Go ahead and get the party started. You have been threating to since before I was born.

I hate that we are not, as a collective unit, wise and aware enough to make the necessary changes in our lifestyle, our population, and our leadership (humanely, democratically) that need to be made so that the species as a whole can avoid extinction. However nothing we are currently doing as a species tells me this is going to change anytime soon. Certainly not soon enough to avoid other horrible outcomes, in any event. So have at it, world leaders. Put up or shut the hell up. I for one am sick to death of the constant threats and posturing.

Edit to add: No offense MrLizard, but someone from the UK really should look at their own country, its history, and it current policies before jumping all over the yanks. We absolutely have war mongers in office. No question. But your country has a pretty long track record of oppressing others and war itself. Not all of us care about Israel or its cause. Some of your countrymen and leadership do care about Israel and its cause. Bottom line, we have lost control (if we ever had it) of our leaders, and they are not representing our best interests. Maybe they never were.

Time to buy oil! Oil increased by 6 dollars today just because of this comment. Just think about how much it will increase if Iran is bombed. Probably around 40-50 in just one day!

Do people realise that Iran has missiles similar to the Pershing II? The Ashoura has a range of around 2000KM`s and is a solid fuel type - meaning very little time to set-up , on there mobile TEL`s - iran doesn`t have fixed ICBM bases there entire missile defence is mobile

WOW. This is definitely the most direct threat yet. And although this does have the same tone and urgency that Bush had in the run up to the Iraq war, there is still one big reality looming over this:

Israel knows that IF they attack Iran it has to be all or nothing. Meaning that Iran will certainly retaliate, and in a big way. This forces Israel to go with the nuclear option. If that happens, and lets say that Iran DOES have nukes, then this will be a giant mess.

I am just still not sure that Israel is willing to take that grand of a step. I think in this case they are trying to use threats to sway the Iranian government.

I hope I'm right...

We all know that Israel will lure the U.S. to do their bidding...anyhow, oil is up more today than any other day in history...up $10+ at the NYMEX...it actually hit the exchanges limit...Iran has 25% of the worlds (known) oil supply in the ground...

I see it happening in quite the opposite way.

I see Israel attacking Iran, and Iran attacking back. This would bring the US into it, and as soon as China and Russia know that their oil interests in Iran are threatened then they will be in there too. I think you could then count on the Iraqis getting more intense with their attacks. All of a sudden you have a full blown war and I am not too sure what happens next. Would China use this as the perfect time to take Taiwan? What would Europe do? This would make for some interesting alliances I think.

Germany and England have already stated that they will protect Israel at any cost...

Every time there is a negative report oil goes up big time. It seems some people are scratching their ass to find an excuse to rip off more people. And the funny thing is that the SEC actually did, or pretended to investigate artificial price guaging of oil. Who are they trying to kid? So frustrating that no one gives a rats ass about anything anymore other than a few smart people on ATS.

From the same article at the bottom of yahoo news it also says:

Independent analysts have questioned, however, whether Israel's armed forces can take on Iran alone, as its nuclear sites are numerous, distant and well-fortified.

Again who are we trying to kid? Do all you military/industrial elite war-monger's really think that Israel can destroy any *suppossed* nuclear missile facilities from the air? What makes you think that these facilities are above ground and easily targeted?

What makes you think that China and Russia that stand to lose a lot of influence in that region will just stand on the sidelines and let the Isrelis or "president" bush get his way? I seriously doubt it!

Even if we assume that the other super powers stay side-lined which is hard to imagine what will be the outcome of future terror? I am sure millions that never considered terror honorable will join up and the world will become incredibly unstable.

And the price of oil?

Another thing to keep in mind: The reason Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982 was because their economy was in a total mess and they wanted to focus the people's attention on their "right" to the islands instead to take the pressure off at home. bizarrely, they thought the UK would just let them stroll in and take it

Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 because they were virtually bankrupt from the war with Iran and Kuwait was making the problem worse by producing more oil than it was supposed to be and further crippling the Iraqi economy.

Countries in dire economic situations are more likely to do stupid, desperate things. I'm not saying the US is quite at that stage yet, but it is worth keeping in mind when you hear about the new record unemployment rates and soaring oil prices.

Russia and China won't get dragged into this mess - not directly anyway. And Iran aren't stupid.....they know it would be suicide to attack the US/Israel directly. There are better ways to go about things.

All in my opinion, of course

Actually if action is taken, Russia and China may get involved. This is one way to quickly depopulate the world of its useless eaters.

I sure hope OUR politicians don't get the U.S. involved if Israel attacks Iran without being attacked first!

The American people don't want a military confrontation with Iran.

Only 7 percent support taking military action against Iran.

According to a new poll from Public Agenda, nearly 50 percent of those who follow the situation in Iran say “the one” best way to deal with Iran is through using diplomacy “to establish better relations.” Only five percent favor threatening military action, down from nine percent in fall 2007. Seven percent support taking military action:

Looks like Bush and his pal McCain have got this whole diplomacy thing wrong!

Just a few things on some of the retarted comments I've read.

1. Iran does not have ICBMs.
2. Isreal could CRUSH Iran's nuke facilities with bunker busters and make them unusable by putting a tactical nuke on it as a cherry on the top.
3. China and Russia wouldn't do anything other than sell weapons and complain.
4. As for all the people who think the American people are so oppressed and lied to all the time, take a look at how Iran is run. Tell me that they're not worse off. President Ahmenijad said there is no such thing as homosexuality in Iran, yet I don't see any public outcry to impeach him.

As enlightened as many of you like to think you are or pretend to be, you, for the majority, have extremely narrow fields of view and minds.

This is boring. Everybody who has nukes should just launch them all.

Better idea : all the world leaders, and governments and parliaments and whatever else, should go into a giant Colosseum arena and fight to the death. I will surely be among the spectators, enjoying the show

I hate to tell you this, but oil's price moves while on bad news such as today's are somewhat speculation, 90-95% of the price is 100% demand. The U.S. is not the only country in the world you know...China is expected to consume MORE fuel than the U.S. by 2020. Countries are hording fuel, and subsidizing it to their poor countries...if you want to blame anyone, don't blame the NYMEX traders, blame the socialist countries that are hording oil and selling it dirt cheap to their citizens creating artificial demand.
