Then what the hell is it? Because you have a nice fitting pair of jeans? A soothing color of paint of the walls? Or maybe a toilet that's at the perfect height for you.

You say that gas prices are not important to you, and that you are financially independent. It's not the size of your bank account?

That's got to be the most ignorant thing i've heard since this thread started.

Heaven or hell is within each of us. If you focus on what you don't have you will be in hell no matter what the size of your bank account.

If you wake up grateful each day for the things you do have, then you will be in heaven even if you're broke.

Your focus on what you lack materially is putting your mind into a bad state because it's preventing you from accessing the emotion of gratitude. In fact, you are being positively reinforced here in this forum for focusing on what you don't have.

If you really want your life to improve you need to control what conditions you. Prevent yourself from being positively reinforced for negative thought patterns. Condition yourself to be in a state of gratitude daily, when you wake up in the morning.

Ask yourself these questions:

What do I have to be grateful for?
What else can I be grateful for?
Who loves me?
How does that make me feel?
Who do I love?
How does that make me feel?
What blessings do I enjoy that I did nothing to earn?
How else can I make god's abundance flow to me?

You really owe it to yourself and your family to realize your full spiritual potential.

You need to realize that you don't know me, or my family. I aprreciate you telling me What I need to do to feel happy.

Do you have any cleaning tips for me? Any Good ideas on how to remove stains? How about a good recipe for meatloaf?

It's all realative to happiness! The spiritual part? Are you talking about religion? If I tell you I'm not religous, will you tell me to go find a chuch?

I wonder If I go back through this thread and count, how many people there are that are telling me what I need to do. What I need to change.

How bad is this all going to get before we find another Timothy McVeigh situation.

You started this thread asking a question, "What would you do if you and your family were robbed in the middle of the night and you caught the rat bastard before he got away?"

So why are you hostile when people answer you question? Because it's not the answer you want to hear?

I've read your threads and I do know this much about you. You seem to have willingly given up your belief that YOU can control your destiny.

Your destiny is shaped in your moments of decision.

Too bad your negative behaviors and beliefs are reinforced here by well meaning people who give you attention for the very things that are leading to your problems.

You're right. I never met you. I don't know you. But I can still send positive thoughts to you.

I can also assure you that nobody ever made a better life for themselves or their family by whining and complaining. If you want a better life, you're going to have to work for it yourself.

peace

Because I thinks it's about DAMN TIME to stop the excuse making!! That's why!! Ya, I know, I'm not really being constructive about the whole situation either. Even though I be able to minipulate how this all affects me, I feel likes I needed to bitch!

I'm not trying to sound hostile toward any in this thread. We are all entitled to our own personal opinion.

Umm, you don't remember Jimmy Carter? Bush is not responsible for how free markets function and for the fact the for the last 25 years, we have not developed our own sources of fossil or alternative fuels. It is the environmental lobby that has blocked additional drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, off the California Coast, Anwar in Alaska. Environmentalism (the new fanatic religion of the 21st century) is why you are paying $4.25/gallon at the pump.

I am sorry that you suffer from that sad liberal disease called George Bush complex - the irrational thinking that every problem in the world has been caused by President Bush. Maybe 4 years of Obama wrecking this country will make you feel better? I guess you don't remember Jimmy Carter, well Obama will be like Carter's second term. Enjoy.

and this tree hugging liberal wants to call BS on the Alaska ANWR drilling bit. Do a bit of research beyond what Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Hanity, O'riley and all the other Fox news nut jobs, oh and Beck and Savage and the rest of them are saying (it's so funny, you can actually get up early before sunrise and log onto the GOP website for the daily talking points, then tune in to the talk show of your choice and listen to them all trip over one another to get the scripted Republican points out...try it some day, it may not always be exactly on, but more days than not you'll find them actually word for word quoting junk off the party website!)...a little bit of research will show that the consensus among oil experts show that if we pumped and fed our sensational thirst with exclusive ANWR product it would get us at best a year and a half, and probably more likely about 6 months. Hardly energy independence.

and just to interject some fun humor, when your sitting so far over to the right that even the snow doesn't melt where you are, everything would appear to be "slightly left" of center.

Seriously though, I just wanted to make that point about drilling in Alaska. It sounds like a good idea when the spin doctors try and blame it on the Democrats or the "liberal tree huggers", but the actual reality is that it would only supply a very very small percentage of our needs. What we really need is a massive conservation effort bundled up with a massive war like effort at expanding alternative energies.

That's what I'm talking about with a civil war. It's such an oxymoron.

It's a war on the person who invented the broom vs. the vaccuum cleaner.

The outsourcing of jobs started in the middle 60's because the Southern Democrats and Lyndon Johnson taxing the living hell out of corporations and the beginning of multinationals buying companies here got cooperation from these same democrats to start the attack on unions in this country. The anti union laws that where changed for striking unions to allow non-union workers to replace the strikers where passed by Johnsons democrats. The tax breaks for shutting down buzinesses here and the other tax breaks for moving to non-union states have caused most wages to stagnate at a percapita rate of the early 70's. Bush didn't start it nor did he do anything to change it. I've seen many here blame 'Bush's Congress' for this problem. republicans only had controll of both houses for 3 and a half years. Democrats controlled both houses for 59 years. So..whos realy writing the laws to hold down the people in this country?????ONE WORD..DEMOCRATS!!!

I'm calling b.s.

Please cite a reference to the oil experts you are referring to, and to the data that shows ANWR would only give 6 to 18 months of oil.

Also, according to Democratic Senator Charles Schumer, just 800,000 barrels a day would drop the price of gas .60 a gallon. And yet the Congress won't allow ANY oil to be produced from ANWR. Why???

Personally I think it's a conspiracy to keep gas prices high.

Oh man, this thing has been debated to death in other threads. I don't have the links bookmarked or stored in my computer and frankly I don't want to spend the time to dig them all up again, but you sure can. Start with wikipedia and then google articles while you’re at home, and if you are even more ambitious, go to your nearest University library and run a more academic search there.

There have been some extremely exaggerated claims about the amount of oil up there. After you run your search then see if you arrive at the same conclusion I have, because the bulk of the stuff I ran across showed as I said 6 mo's to a year and a half (now I believe that to be if it were the exclusive source for our oil) otherwise would supplement our supply for perhaps 15 years roughly, but definitely not a long term solution, or even a partial one. It's also been said repeatedly in media articles that we could save that amount of oil just by properly inflating our tires, reducing weight in the trunk, tuning up the car, and not making fast getaways...

I'm not saying we shouldn't drill up there, because I do believe we could do it in an eco-friendly manner, but then I'm not eco-expert either. I also believe it won't solve our problems, and we need alternatives and conservation to move down the right path.

*edit for spelling...darn it I always hit "edit post" first without running it over through word for spelling then end up having to make an edit...oh well*

once you have mastered the physical world, then you will begin to understand the other dimensions. My personality tends to want to call you a lazy whinebag, but I know this is only because you don't yet fully understand. Maybe one day you will...
but...
My soul sees something else. Spirituality has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with your mindset. How you think about things and the choices you make in your life.

Material things don't make me happy. I started choosing to be happy everyday and choosing to adopt a philosophy of abundance when I was living paycheck to paycheck.
Im still just as happy. The only reason I am more happy now, than then, is because of all the cool things I have learned and the amount of purchasing power I have that allows me to give more than I was able to when I was broke.
I can give more to charities now. I can give more to my family. I can make sure my cousins and nephews have money to get a proper education, and most of all I can give more of my time.
God has rolled out any kind of red carpet for me. I visualized this ''red carpet'', and decided to walk down it. Of my own free will, I decided to choose this path to freedom from literal wage slavery.
You are choosing a different path, and thats cool. To each his own...

what you dislike, hate, or any other negative emotion you put toward someone else is really what you dislike, hate, et c, within yourself.
You will soon find that this universe that you live in is simply a mirror. And all you need to change, to change your life, is yourself.

Change is the only constant in this universe.
When you start flowing like water, you will truly understand the concept of adapting and evolving. And yeah I know it sounds like some zen type stuff, but it has worked for me.

The people in this thread that you perceive as trying to tell you what to do, happen to see you blaming another human being for your problems. These same people, probably understand subconsciously, that we are all connected, and that when you are blaming someone else, you are really shirking responsibility.

Your life is what you make it.

All I know is that if I lose all that I have created, than its no big deal. Ill still be happy, and Ill start all over again. In fact I would look at it as a challenge!

your life that you live, is merely energy. Perhaps one day you will recognize that energy, learn to use it to create your life how you want to live it, and be grateful to breath and have opposable thumbs and the like!

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Interesting perspective you have there. Perhaps you'd like to make a thread explaning how people utilise the same mindset to turn their lives around? I don't know if that would go in BTS or what but I'd like to read it. I'm a relatively spiritual person myself and understand the concept of "lack". I am the kind of person who ultimately only relies on myself to get things done. I don't expect handouts and I trust my own inner strength to overcome whatever life throws at me. The problem I have, and the reason I've been vocal in this thread, is that I'm finding it harder and harder to overcome the encroaching malicious world around me. In short, I'm finding that there's less room to manouvre and what you're talking about (visualising your success and ignoring material wealth) is becoming less simple and effective.

I'm Pretty sure those giving the self-help tips are ignorant of the fact that the OP is primarily worried about his family - his children's futures especially.

I hope one day we can all be as happy as you guys are with yourselves. But it seems that the kids and wife come first, and the OP is genuinely worried about the state of this nation....

Nope, not happy at all. It wasn't a happy thread to start, but wanted to get it off my chest.

Besides what relevant does that have to do with the topic anyway?

Take away your privilege of driving and see how fast you realize it is a necessity to go to work, and buy food, and see your kids

And Poverty is not relative.
I have no extras in my life and I am still broke

Lets see you get rid of all your amenities and live off of 200 a week. You will eat your words then.

I cant be done

If the OP is primarily worried about his family he and his family would be well-served if he quit whining about being a victim and do something more constructive with his time besides seeking sympathy on ATS with nonsensical posts blaming Bush for robbing him in the middle of the night.

And it's really impressive that he's going to go Tim McVeigh on everybody. Yeah, let's all feel sorry for the OP. I do feel sorry for his family if this is how he chooses to deal with his problems. Not a very resourceful way to make your family's life better imho.
