Gauncents; I am glad for your thread, this issue needed to be raised.

It is just sad to see how people can be brainwashed, constantly 'moving the goal-posts' as things get worse every day.

I know, that's what I meant when I said I thought it was going in a different direction for a min.

I loved to sarcasm. Thing is, that's what most people are saying with all seriousness.

You've missed the point.

I'm saying you should quit whining and blaming the President for how your life sucks.

If your life really sucks so much you should be spending your time doing something productive FOR your family instead of wasting time whining about how your family is suffering because of how you've been victimized by the POTUS.

Do really thing spending time on ATS is doing ANYTHING to help your family that you're so worried about?

What would you rather...

Have $100 000 in year 1999 dollars or.... $200 000 in modern (2008) bank notes?

Yeah, I guess it really is the OP's fault!

You missed my point then as well. This was originally started for those who don't have the means to put the topic on the table. Yes things are a little difficult, but I'll be fine. Also, things will be getting worse for sum.

There is some truth to this thread but based on a hypothetical situation that I felt needed to be addressed.

Sure, put it on me and my complaining. About how I'm doing nothing.

Yep, things always happen and get fixed without conversation and debating.

If you're not happy with the way I started the "debate", then so beit.

I might not like the way you do laundry, or the way your furniture is arranged in your house, but I don't bitch about it and offer opinion on how it might look better in your house. That's your choice.

This is mine.

So in other words this entire thread was a complete fabrication and just an excuse to blame Bush for a "hypothetical" situation that *might* apply to other people who are probably out working instead of posting on an internet forum.

I'm sure if they only knew your concern, and the exceptional efforts you've made on their behalf, they would be very grateful.

I assume, from this, that you have no job then?

Its just that you are posting on an internet forum.

Oddly I find that people who do work often frequent internet forums in their lesuire time, in lunchbreaks, evenings etc.

To suggest that only those without jobs post on internet forums is probably the shallowest of all arguments, wouldn't you say?

No wonder the world is in the state it's in. Even basic reading skills are becoming scarce. No, I didn't suggest only those without jobs post on internet forums.

And I disagree with your conclusion.

Changing what somebody says to set up a fabricated, off-topic, straw man argument to then bat down like you're hitting a pinata without a blindfold is probably the shallowest of all arguments.

Just sayin'...

Fine

How about you explain what you meant by the sentence I quoted then, for clarity's sake, and why you felt the need to say it?

all of this is neither here nor there. Money can always be made and every market is different. 90 percent of a depression is actually psychological. If you snap, then we are going to have a police state. Don't snap because people like that are going to ruin our chance in keeping America, America.
There are already agents ( no, not like 007) poised to dissolve the resistance through violent acts. We need to start thinking like chess players and start using our minds.

If you are in a poverty stricken situation, and you are playing a victim roll, and you are blaming other people for your situation in life, than you are merely wasting valuable time in life.
In this day in age, you can create your own money tree/s. Its possible to achieve with persistence and effort, but you won't get it by wasting your time.
Bush is an assclown, yes. There have been many throughout history.
Sure it sucks not having enough for the bills. That is a message from the universe telling you to eliminate liabilities and start producing assets...create your own wealth and as many people before already stated live within your own means!

Who thinks FDR's New Deal extended the Great Depression? That is absolutely ridiculous. His government launched public works programs allowed millions to leave the bread lines and go to work building roads, bridges, dams, canals, and the national parks system. Without FDR's New Deal the Great Depression could have lasted much longer and affected our abilities to deal with Germany and Japan. FDR was a truly great president, hence his appearance on Mt. Rushmore.

The following usage of offensive language will be replace with *Bleeps*

This is for the people that say "Don't blame bush"

I could give you all the information and history of how dirty the government has been till present day and humor you. But clearly your already to ignorant to listen. Also saying how somebody could of change there life before then and now has nothing to do with the fact that they are HARD WORKING AMERICANS. Bush has already ruined the USA and the damage is done people. People that support idiots like bush, need to be....well you get the point. I am saying all this because my family is going through the same stuff, and I'm sure other families are too, we were a middle class family until this piece of *Bleep* Bush stepped into the picture after that it was all taken away. oh ho ho ho you ask for the facts? Why don't you watch the news? American jobs being sent to other foreign country's? Illegal immigrants on American soil, and organizations hiring them for cheap labor and nothing is being done about it? (And do not tell me there is something being done cause I can record a video with all the Illegals standing outside of home depot.), Over sea deals with china poison toys/dog food/junk? And why? Cause it took an idiot named Bush to walk in the presidential office of the united states with the IQ worse then a 5 year old to *bleep* us all over. This not only makes bush a thief but a terrorist, a scum, a person that should of have never been in the white house, he does not give people hope, he gives them misery, they say we goto hell for our sins, sorry to slap yah in the face with this one but we are all already in hell. Im I off topic? Nope I am right on it but I am sure the internet has enough information for people to maybe open there eyes what is being done. And people that support bush and the government clearly do not know what there talking about or does not think out of the box nor think for them selfs, they are mindlessly controlled by the corrupt system with the ignorances of US history and present news.

I will soon to add this to my sig so I quote myself "I will not reply to ignorant"

If you choose to live a sparse life in the country and be self-sufficient you don't need a car. If you choose to live in downtown Manhattan you don't need a car.

Looks like I'm going to have break this down.:

1000 people of working age (and requirement) live in a rural town. 2 farms employing 50 people serve that town. 20 builders maintain and build houses in that town. 10 shops employing 3 people each serve that town. 5 policemen serve that town. 5 doctor's serve that town. 1 school employing 5 teachers serves that town. For arguments sake I'll throw in another 200 miscellaneous employed within that town.

This town is 20 miles from the nearest city. How do the remaining 685 people from that town make a living? Remember, these people have no collatoral with which to buy land or start a new business (if they can even find a viable one) and the train that runs the 20 miles to the city costs double what gasoline costs. Seeing as you're the one with all the answers perhaps you can explain this one.

Oh, hang on... that's right. They should all move to the city. The 30 towns peripheral to that city all have their 900 workers move to the city (because the 315 people previously employed in that town no longer have the customers, only 100 stick around). So the city grows by 27,000 + those worker's families who also have to move to the city. So let's say 50,000 children and adults move to the city. They move to the edge but the only jobs that will pay their mortgage are located in the centre 5 miles away. So, finally they can all cycle to work - it'll take them 45 minutes but they can do it.

Some of you forget that in many ways we're less free here than in third world countries. 3rd world rural people don't have large council taxes to pay and land doesn't cost a fortune. If I wanted to get rid of my car I'd have to give up working, or at least take a minimum wage job at the local supermarket. Of course, then I'd have to move back in with my parents because that wage would never cover even a crappy 1 bedroom flat + council tax.

High expenses are unavoidable in Britain. You can live without a TV, computer and car, and eat nothing but rice but you'd still have to be earning at least £600 per month just to have a roof over your head and a bit of food in your stomach. Minimum wage might just cover that but of course you'd NEVER be able to have a family or a chance at owning a home/piece of land. Are those things a luxury? Is it a luxury now to raise a family?

It probably wouldn't have been a complete shock to you if you would have read the label of the forum you are in. It is call Speculative Theories.

By definition:
Speculation: a message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence.

I'll tell you what though. If gas get to $6, $7. My original post will be accurate. So for all of you out there telling me to stop the whining and make more cutbacks, let me ask you this. Better yet, If gas gets that high, I'd be willing to bet that the people bitching at me will start joining my band wagon and that it would be an accurate speculative theory.

You see, I think most peoples opinion either pro or neg to my side is powered by income. The higher the income you have, I'm sure those are the people that are bitching at me.

first of all man...anybody jumping on a bandwagon is an idiot. It has nothing to do with money..it has to do with how you think with your brain. Some people only see one side of a coin in life. Other people see both sides.
Some people think like checker players. Others think like chess players.
I know what its like to be broke. I moved out on my own at 16 and made a life for myself. I went from that to investing and Im almost financially independent.

My life and how I have progressed from eating top ramen and walking to work, to being able to give in a generous fashion and not worry about gas prices is proof of the ability to choose how your life works out.
To ignore the chicken littles and the people who form knitting circles and argue about things that could be eliminated in the time it took to spiel off countless complaints and blame games.

All I have to say is that I stopped being poor when I started using my brain. I asked myself, how do I get free from all of this materialistic bullshiznit?
And myself had an answer...

Listen to yourself, and not other people.

Conspiracy theorists call skeptics crazy. Skeptics call conspiracy theorists crazy.
were all crazy, so accept that fact and get the most out of life, so you and your family and loved ones can enjoy yourselves in a life FREE FROM WAGE SLAVERY!

These rises in food/gas/everything are just ways of the universe letting you know you are a slave to someone else! so break free!!!

I gotta say it feels great to wake up to heaven every day!
and thats not because of the size of my bank account!

I'm sorry my friend - and I might have misunderstood - but I saw a bit of a paradox in your post. You essentially said you're free from materialism because you earn a decent amount of money. As they say, money doesn't make you happy... but it pays for things that do.

So many threads on ATS seem to be rife with members who think that just because they've been successful, anyone can! - "so get up off your lazy backside, make some good money and stop buying unnecessary things" they say. Just because 'God' rolled out the red carpet for you it doesn't mean he will for everyone. And I'm speaking from the standpoint of someone who's more successful than many around me. Not everyone will be extended even that smallest of opportunities to make a comfortable living.

EDIT: typo

If u live on $200 a week and like what is happening to this country, i can't wait till bread is 6 buks a loaf and milk is $10/gal. to watch u crawl to the store because u can't afford to drive. (milk here in SW florida at the winn dixie is already 7.29/gal, and three mid size beets will cost u $4 an i am not exaggerating) Hmmm...., at those prices, 200 buks ain't going to get you much. Seems u better have thought about how yer going to grow all u are going to need to eat cuz you will be standing with yer handout sooner than u think!
If u think its not going to happen or if u think 200 buks is going to get u much in the near future yer sadly mistaken fella. You my friend will be one of those beggin on the streets.
I am as thrify as u can get and it don't take much for me to live, am pretty much self sufficient and i don't like what i see coming. Yes, many in this country live above their means all because they listened to the same people who are robbing us tell them they needed that new car, new puter, new clothes etc. and don't worry, you can pay for it in 2010........ its all good! They have been misled and they are going to pay for it .....but those who don''t live like that are going to be starving too, yes in this country its going to happen.

Then what the hell is it? Because you have a nice fitting pair of jeans? A soothing color of paint of the walls? Or maybe a toilet that's at the perfect height for you.

You say that gas prices are not important to you, and that you are financially independent. It's not the size of your bank account?

That's got to be the most ignorant thing i've heard since this thread started.
