to say its possible presenting the technology that allows websites to collect and maybe sell user information is an ATTACK ?? Come on, I know you want to protect your business, but its not like I am creating a technology, it exists, and its done by many organizations

It's not done by us. A very-small amount of minimal research would lead you to our privacy policy link on every page of the site. In that, we make it clear that no information of ours about our users is ever given to anyone.

Just a little research can go a long way.

Well, I never said the information was private from the users, but the pattern of usage, and that data you get from your own server without the need to access nothing private

What part of, "we don't do it," is so hard for you to understand?

Your question has been answered.

Just a couple of questions about when people mark you as a respected foe, I have 4 U2U's stating that the same person has foed me 4 times, I guess they really, really, really, really respect me!

So, how is this possible?

And a more pertinent question, is this a way around spamming someones U2U inbox?

I notice the Foe U2U's came in quick succession, if it is then it may pay to look into it.

Cheers!!!

You have 18 foes, why worry about one?

Meh, half of them are banned too.

I'm more worried about the spamming of peoples U2U inboxes by people finding a loophole with the foe button.

Sorry, had to post it...

I only have one foe and not sure why.

I agree, if you are being "Foe Spammed" it should be stopped....

I didn't know you could list a person more than once as a Foe.
Although I haven't listed anyone...

well, no problem

I never said that doing that is bad either, or immoral ...

it may be a way to get $$

Chances are the person who foe'd you multiple times thought there was a little too much lag time with the server and just kept bashing away at the foe button. Sort of like when you hit the reply key one too many times when making a post and end up making a double or triple post.

I sincerely doubt that you were being spammed intentionally.

I'd like to take this opportunity to not thank you for not addressing an issue that a number of posters have complained about.
Thanks !

Which issue are you referring to?

(Don't assume I have super-power ability to ready every post.)

Agreed but I was concerned with such a thing being abused, we have the flood control for regular U2U's is there a flood control for foeing people?

I think he is referring to: This Post.

CONSPIRACY CHICKS POPUP

I've noticed this has been addressed in no less then 3 threads by various posters yet there has still been no explanation nor any change regarding this pop up.

I'm not sure why ATS can't designate a small permanent section of the homepage to videos instead of having this ANNOYING pop up appear EVERYTIME the home page is loaded regardless of whether or not a person is signed in or not.

I understand that it's important for ATS to generate traffic and income but EVERYONE hates pop ups so this is obviously NOT the way to do it.

Personally I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee to remove ALL ads and get some premium services/sections.

Back to my original question:
Are we going to be forced to deal with this pop up until we stop coming to ATS ???

I don't know what this member is talking about because I never go to the home page. But I guess it's a issue.

I have posted it a number of times so I assumed it was just ignored.

I was just wondering how long we are going to have to deal with the "exclusive ATS news video " popup on the home page? An entire thread was dedicated to this so obviously there are a number of unhappy posters.

I dont understand all the emotion over a pop up...

Just close it...

ATS is privatly owned and I dont think we are bombarded with adds,'
heck, Ninemsm is far worse..

The homepage has:
Elongated ads across the entire top of the page.
Ads covering a good portion of the right side of the page.
Ads across the bottom of the page.

And if I were the only person who didn't like it, i'd just shut my mouth and move on, but I'm not.

Nobody likes pop ups and if ATS is trying to attract attention to a particular part of the site, why create something that nobody likes to get that attention ?
There are a dozen better ways to handle it then adding yet another item to take up even more real estate on my screen.

I don't like it either, that's why I have the board page bookmarked instead of the home page.

Given a somewhat tight 1,000 x 3,200 pixel dimension for the site home, the actual square-pixel real estate occupied by home page ads is 10.5%, that's below normal for many types of sites.

Nobody likes pop ups...

The promotion for the video is a very "polite" style of overlay -- not really a pop-up as it does not create a new browser window. The overlay is easy to remove, and once removed, remains so for six hours. Thanks to that type of overlay promotion for our Mustang video, it has received a lot of views, and a lot of attention.

Even counting the overlay, the entire "square pixel" space occupied by what could be considered "ads" is less than 12% on the site home.

That pop-up doesn't bother me.

Hey SO, is there a thread specifically discussing ATS's use of google analytics? I notice the T&Cs explicitly comply with their TOS regarding informing users about third-party cookie usage. Just wondering if there's a thread highlighting the additional issue of click-stream collection, and google's rather vague third-party disclosure policies.

Eg, "Google will not share information... unless Google.. is required by law or has a good faith belief that... disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to protect the... safety of... the public" Source

ATS staff,

Can you STOP 404 ing threads on ATS?!

I am reading a thread and BOOM, a big 404 message appears.

Just close the dang thread, please! No need to wipe valuable information off the face of the net! Incomprehensible!

Sincerely,

- UP -

I think that they were contacted by someone that had too much personal info given out.. I for one think this was a good move, if we are talking about the same thread... Too much personal info was on that thread..

Although .. I would have recommended taking out the posts with the info about the church.. and leaving the rest... It shed a member in a very very very bad light. I feel the truth on that needed to be exposed.
