We had to eliminate the real time view counter/display because of the burden it put on the database server. If you can imagine how huge the data base that is ATS is, and then imagine having to query it and write to it each and every time a thread is viewed (several thousand times an hour for some threads), while serving all the content at the same time to thousands of people at the same moment, you begin to see how that one, little, statistic becomes a huge drain on performance.

OK, maybe this is just a dumb question, but I got the following on one of my threads today:

admin edit: PLEASE do NOT embed auto play files into threads.

Now, I'm not the one who set mp3 files, or any audio files for that matter to 'auto play' when embedded into threads from the media portal... So are you all telling us that we cannot use audio files from the media portal? And if so, why allow us to upload them in the first place??? And a better question yet is why can't we place audio files into threads (especially on BTS where this thread was)???

You can put a link to the file in your thread but until we get a new Mp3 player for the media portal we ask that you don't embed audio files because they auto play and that's just not cool for those who aren't expecting it.

We know it's "our" issue, that's why I only edited your post with the request to not do it.

Thanks for that explanation.....that seems fair enough.

If it's a difficult feature to maintain, then my opinion is that it's a "nice to have", not a "necessity".

Haha nope. Erm it's more like you click the button and the reply box comes on the same page instead of going onto another window. It also makes it easier to reply to other posts (as in see what they have wrote.) If this makes any sense?

Depending on the browser you use, try "right clicking" the button and "open in new tab/window".

OK I first noticed this about a month ago..but now it's seriously ticking me off.
I'm having issues with friend adds..
People whom I know I added long ago, are not on my list and I'm having to add them again.
I feel embarrased about this knowing they will get a u2u that I just added them, when we have been friends for years.
WTF?
Is there a glitch in the system somewhere affecting this function?
Anyone else having this issue?

Well I don't know about any glitches and I haven't seen a similar problem. But if it makes you feel any better, no one gets a u2u when you Friend them. The u2u comes when you Foe them. Foe notification, yes. Friend notification, no.

Please don't ask me why. That's just the way it's always worked.

I thought that..but recently I got a u2u of a friend add..totally threw me for a loop.

Hi.

Why does it say this member is a friend when I never added them? I added this member as a Foe just to see if it would be removed (the friend of), which it wasn't.

It's a glitch we've had for a while when names have the same characters.

You have "reconpilot" as a friend so when you look at "pilot" it'll show as friend of.

It's just one of those things...

To add to what Djarums stated above ...

Here's what I've done in the past that sometimes works:

1. Find the friend in your list that has a similar username
2. Un-friend them
3. Find the member who is showing up as a friend but isn't
4. Foe them
5. Go back and re-friend your original friend
6. Un-foe the other member and send them a polite U2U telling them you foed them by accident and have now un-foed them

Voila ... it should work.

Oh and another thing; I know this is probably way down your list and it's not even an issue. However, since you've implemented the mobile site; would it be possible to e.g. subscribe to the thread and get texts showing new posts and so on?

The thing is though, that if you do get hacked or anything - all our numbers are out there and then can get tracked and so on.
