Okay, reading the jist of that, i respectfully pose this question (hence my question of interpretation)

is it okay to use words like (3 letter word for butt) and (synonym for female dog) since they are not #'d?

The reason i ask is because i am of the opinion that words express mood and feeling. Since internet text has no tone, i find it occasionally necessary to use certain curse words to express myself (but never vulgar words)

Im not trying to sound liek a 12 year old looking for an excuse to curse, im asking if its appropriate to use the words that are not #'d?

no, they shouldn't be used. while I agree, sometimes a nice curse word will put the proper accent on the thought someone is trying to express, it is not allowed here. plain and simple.

Well, now you have a challenge for yourself. There are ways to express yourself that do NOT require words that get the "#" treatment. When you are able to make an argument without said words most will take you statement with much more authority.

GO FOR IT, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

It's also true that we are countries separated by a common language.

There have been times when I have seen what, in my conception of the language would be considered profanity - albeit mild profanity.

There have also been times when what I thought was perfectly acceptable turned out to be the opposite.

So, all said and told, it's better to stay away from any sort of profanity completely - it makes for fewer misunderstandings.

Can some one please respond to this post please

Rather than posting snappy emoticons, perhaps this thread should be used for ATS Issues.

What do you think.

You are incorrect, it's only against the TAC to use "all caps" in the subject title of a new thread.

While we certainly discourage posting in all caps, since it's considered digital "yelling", it's not against the TAC specifically.

I hope this is the right thread.. I've had issues with recieving sometimes antagonistic/abusive U2Us. I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of block option.

Hi riley,

A block option should not be necessary, all U2U's are subject to the same Terms and Conditions of Use as the board:

2f.) Private Messages: You will not use the private messaging system (U2U) to send mass messages to multiple member accounts. All private messages are subject to these terms and conditions, violations will result in immediate account termination. You also agree that "U2Us" (Private Messages) are confidential. You will not post or publically display U2Us received from ATS staff or other members, in any way, without the written permission of the author.

and so would obviously include:

2) Behavior: You will not behave in an abusive, hateful and/or racist manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack anyone.

If any member receives U2U's that violate the Terms and Conditions of Use I would advise contacting staff via the Complain / Suggestion feature available in the MemCenter.

riley, as JAK has mentioned above, the U2U system is covered by the TAC... I want to add that we are exceptionally strict when it comes to the u2us, we don't tolerate ANY violations in u2u.

Mostly because it's just creepy to send someone a mean u2u just because you don't have the intellectual fortitude to duke it out in a civilized manner on the boards.

I understand your point.. thing is people can be mean without violating the rules [ex "I'll pray for you."
]. I was just hoping I could block 'em but if that isn't practical thats fair enough.

Exactly.. if they want to play I'll see them on the field.

thanks Jak and Springer.

Hiyah ATS

I just wanted to say thanks for the new Fight Club Pub section!!! The posts on it made me laugh out loud this morning when I found it! Wow the mods are HUMAN - that was a joke by the way for those of you just joining with no sense of humor...and perhaps, some of you always running this site down on this thread might take notice of this fact

Think of it as a "Nat Geo" show where Springer is narrating, SkepticOverlord is the camera man...and the dialogue might go something like this:

Springer in a hushed documentary voice: "See the Mods congregate on the ever-shrinking sale aisle, not suspecting that I, Springer, have sent a Mod- Only mass U2U hinting that there was a sale on Granny Panties, Corn Dogs and Stretch Pants lasting only 5 hours."

SkepticOverlord zooms in to capture the hope, soon to be dashed, on the wild Mods' faces.

Springer: "See how they frolic, unaware that soon, the Alpha males in their pack will circle, snapping and biting, as they challenge each other with a debate, yessssssss, a debate....that may well challenge their very lives....lives in the balance, the females at stake...who will come out the top Alpha dog in this fight?"

Ok so it's corny, but I was just making a point here...is this thread restricted to moderators only? I tried to post something much along these lines for fun and when I hit send, saw a message that said "You are not allowed to post on this forum."

I laughed, I cried, I wanted to buy a t-shirt to this forum Fight Club Pub...perhaps you all can allow us peons, to post, with approval, much like the ATS Anonymous posts? If not that's cool, we can all just read, it's highly entertaining and a great thread

The IP address of an ATS member was traced by another member, not a mod. (BoulderMD thread.) How was that possible? Did the member hack into the site? Is ATS's security that weak?

BTW: A mod told me repeatedly that the issue doesn't deserve its own thread, but I strongly disagree. This could be very damaging to ATS and should be dealt with head-on. Privacy means privacy!
