NY Governer Spitzer Is Linked to Prostitution Ring

www.nytimes.com

Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He is set to make an announcement about 2:15 this afternoon at his Manhattan office.
Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

So the guy that vowed to clean up the state and bring a high standard of ethics to the position is involved in a prosecution ring? WOW!!! I am glad to see hypocrisy happens on both sides of the aisle.

Lou Dobbs should be happy to hear this one.

This guy has been ruffling his feathers for some time now, especially along the lines of giving illegals ID.

Good point about the ID issue. That is one reason he wasn't entirely liked. When I lived in NY, Pataki was governor and this guy was a BULLDOG going after the corporate guys on Wall Street. He seemed to fight for the little guy...until he got into a position with real power.

At first I liked Spitzer, what with him not being afraid to go after big corporations. I'm terribly disappointed.

Do you think this is enough to have him step down?

Image the collective sigh of relief at the RNC because, at least this time, it wasn't a Republican caught in a sex scandal. Wait for it though, it'll come around again. Also, it will be interesting to see just how much this investigation was pushed by fat-cat Wall Streeters who have just been waiting to take Spitzer down. Pay back is hell.

If the Wall Street dudes had this info, I don't understand the point in holding it back until now. It could have been used during his election campaign...or even to turn up the heat during the illegal immigrant ID issue. Now just seems kind of bland...unless they waited for a slow news day to allow this to have the front page alone.

I'm guessing huge FBI sting operation. I wonder how deep this mess goes.

If its the FBI or any other government agencies I would have expected this to come out with a BIG news conference, not one with Spitzer doing the CYA.

Don't rule out a follow-up. Also, he may have cooperated with them and now they're giving him the courtesy of letting him "fall on his own sword".

There's a shocker: another hypocritical politician!

Come on people, how much more of this do we have to stand for?

When we always have to choose from the lesser of two evils in an election, is there any surprise that we are governed by evil?

But this isn't as bad as the republicans UNLESS the prostitutes are homosexual males.

Thats what is hilarious about the RNC - all of these bible thumpers keep getting caught soliciting men in bathrooms and boys in chat rooms - all the while damning people to hell for such behavior.

Did Spitzer aver vow to clean up prostitution? Or hark at people about the ethical wrongs of it?

Prostitution ring? Eh.

Id say it goes back to the UN. New York Politicians have allways had ties to prostitution and the U.N. also has allways had tie to it. Its just a way of doing business with foreign affairs.

Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.

In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.

“”This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ”It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.”

So he is disgusted with it when he's not the one having the fun...

Hey - That is just eliminating the competition! And THAT is good business. Don't you want the Governor of New York to have a sound understanding of business?

BTW - I am really kidding. Yes - this is disgusting and I hope he deals with the consequences.

Do I ever fail to take an opportunity to make fun of republicans or ANYONE for that matter that tries to solicit sex in airport reastrooms? NO.

From the TV news:

The Governor is expected to resign later today and he is also reported to be indicted on criminal charges in DC southern district of NY.

Also Lt Gov Patterson is expected to take over as the state's Governor.

Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved.

But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers.

The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13.

I was listening to the news while talking to my dad about this and my dad's first reaction was "gay or straight?" I said democrat, my dad understood this to mean straight. Then he started laughing about how stupid this guy is for busting prostitution rings and frequenting them.

I posed the question, "what if he wasn't frequenting them? what if he was busting the competition and the big DC bust last week was his operation.?"

I'm thinking I might be right. Seems there's an indictment in federal court or at least a rumor of one.

Spitzer just spoke....he gave no indication of Resigning. He may not decide to resign, the only thing he is guilty of is being a John for a prostitution ring.
