Yeah I am pretty pumped...considering I heard the wreckage would cover from the west coast of Canada all the way to the Hudson Bay. A rather large swath of land, that I just happen to inhabit. Here's to hoping I don't sprout a 3rd arm fromt he fuel.

Look at this way, im sure we've been unknowlingly exposed to worse over the years. So i wouldnt worry so much about a little bit of some highly toxic hydrazine.

Anybody else find it odd that they chose to shoot the satellite down when every amateur astronomer and piece of equipment/telescope had their eyes trained on the lunar eclipse?

I'm not. Not like anybody told those people they had to watch the lunar eclipse and nothing else.

Why is there absolutely nothing on TV about it!

The News Media is silly.

So, yeah, this cost $74 million. So I'm glad they pulled it off, and it didn't miss the target. Though I hope this wasn't us just flexing our muscle, and it isn't the start of some star-wars pissing match between us and China.

Hey evilod I feel you, the same thing with posts has happened to me more than once. I swear some people must live online. No this OP was not for a match of Star Wars Tech, these are not Star Wars Armaments, they are standard.

As for the shoot-down, was there ever any doubt that we would hit it? At least not in my mind. I am very knowledgable of the AEGIS System, and knowing the two vessels involved, USS Lake Erie (Ticonderoga Class AEGIS Guided Missile Cruiser), and USS Decatur (Arleigh Burke Class AEGIS Guided Missile Destroyer) are already proven surface-to-air missile-to-missile interceptors, I knew it would be taken out. Congratulations to PACFLT, and the Crews involved!

Whats wrong with being able to multitask? I mean making pancakes, posting news on ATS, printing paperwork, screaming at Destro and trying to take over the world all at once isn't a bad thing, I think

What they did was succeed in hitting a target much harder to hit than a ballistic missile. They made history. I just hope it isn't the first shot in a New Cold War.

It should be on CNN here shortly, I wonder what took them so long. Thats just silly. They wanted to talk about John McCain instead.

Well of course the military mission was a success! Why would we question their authority and truthfulness? Who can dispute it?

Why's this harder than shooting a missile?

www.cnn.com...

This is the closest I have been able to get the evidence of the confirmation hit.
It is CNN and it doesn't really show anything definately, but it does have the credentials of it actually being a successful hit to the satellite.
Guess it could be 24hr's or longer for absolute verification.

The speed of the target and no heat signature. The satellite was travelling at 17,000 mph with no exhaust.

So... if an Aegis can hit that, it could conceivably hit any missile?

I'll bet the Chinese and the Russians are justing thrilled to death about this. More confirmation that our updated Star Wars technology is improving and moving forward. I'm sure that our friend in Iran, President Tom, as Glenn Beck likes to call him, is also thrilled to know that we are able to hit moving targets in orbit.
This kind of news is the stuff that makes the aerospace industry stocks just grow and grow and grow. Thank god I have a good broker and a highly diversified portfolio. Technology moves into the 21st Century!
Personally I hope it p!sses them all off. It keeps things upfront and interesting at the Security Council meetings.

oh yes, and how happy they are that they can destroy very difficult-to-spot objects in outter-space... they've been trying to shoot down 'objects' with that kind of precision for awhile now....
