Dozens in Texas town report seeing UFO

news.yahoo.com

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.

Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

Pretty fascinating, and very credible story worthy of more investigation. One guy said he thought it might be reflections generated by two aircraft, but that does not seem to fit what the witnesses described at all.

Ya gotta love Texas. These lines are priceless:

"You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal," Sorrells said. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."

Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

I'm sure if it hangs around much longer, it will have bullet holes, though.

Anyway, fascinating report, and good to see it in the news. Hope we see some photos or video...or maybe even they bag it.

Flagged for a very nice find.

I can here Bush: "Better not mess with Texas, send the fighters!"

Here we go again with the swamp gas, you watch. Even if these thing land on the White House lawn, they are not going to admit to it.

I think the fact that people often see a glow (like the sheriff quoted at the end of the article) around these objects is very interesting. I have no idea what, if any significance there is to that, but it does seem like a very large number of these reports include that.

Does anyone else think that sounds a little like Blackburn's UFO? The changing configuration and altitude make it sound like a similar sighting. I was wondering why that thread hasn't gone anywhere. Seemed very promising.

i live about 40 miles east of stephenville,tx. i can say that there has been more military aircraft in this area lately, mostly blackhawks and apaches, which is not too strange, considering my proximity to ft. hood and bell helicopter. but i have seem more activity than usual lately, including fighter jets at night

I'm more insterested on the "Fighter Jets chasing it..." part.
I would like them to describe more on that part of the story/sightings.

Interesting case, lets hope this just doesn't fade away like so many others. The article mentions a group heading that way to investigate, lets hope they get something good, not just lights in the sky or any of the "regular" UFO pics we see around here.

This one is, indeed, interesting. I'm more than a bit surprised that nobody has managed to capture an image, if the thing has been (as the article implied) visible over a period of several weeks.

I wish the article had been a bit more detailed...do the sightings follow a pattern? Perhaps all are during a certain time-frame? Do the object's movements follow a pattern? How long do individual sightings last? Any (or better, all) of this info might help us figure out what's going on here.

I'm also curious about how people are getting a size / altitude / speed for the object in question. The human eye isn't the best optical range-finder on the planet, particularly for objects in the sky, and particularly at night. If we know the size, we can make a good guess about altitude and speed....if we know the altitude and speed, we can make a good guess about the size...knowing nothing about actual size, speed, or altitude, we aren't going to be able to make any decent guesses at all.

The fact that even with binoculars, one observer couldn't see anything between the lights would seem to argue that this was a formation of smaller objects (I'd expect stellar occlusion, at the very least). The changing configuration of the lights also argues for a formation flight rather than a single object, at least in my opinion. If anyone has further info to start filling in these (and other) blanks, I look forward to seeing it...this series of sightings should be very interesting, at the very least.

What I don't get is why people would assume "The end of times" just because of UFO's.

No where in the Bible does it say that UFO's is going to bring in the "end of times."

Makes no since to me.

I'm going to ditto this thought. While I'm still skeptical on the Blackburn video (still on the fence as to whether that was just skydivers with strobe lights), the descriptions of the changing formation and shape really harken to what Blackburn described.

Could be experimental aircraft? Nanotech body construction allowing for morphing technology?

This is the factor that gets overlooked or played down too often.

While the F-117 Stealth was in its infancy, and still a top secret, I bet sightings of IT were thought to be UFO sightings by regular, uninformed people. And they secretly had that craft for some ridiculous amount of time .. like .. over 10 years they were flying these things around but they "didn't exist" you see.

With Physics being where it is today, and all of the cutting edge Science going on, it's only fair to assume that if playing by anything remotely close to "the odds", the chances are much, much greater that it was an experimental military craft. If this is the case, and has been with most UFO sightings in the past decade, I wanna know what they've got! It must be mind blowing!

Alternatively, Angels and Demons could actually be Aliens, God could be a High Alien, and these craft could be chariots of fire. This would mean that most of our ideas of Religion, God, and so forth would be completely wrong. It would also mean we are in for some serious cow pies, if prophecy turned out to have been guided by some superior intelligence. I do not think these ideas are the truth, I don't promote them, to be honest, I don't know what to think when it comes to Aliens, I have been given absolutely nothing personally and individually to base any kind of opinion on whatsoever. Not for looks, for intent, intelligence, anything. It's all been fed to us by the television etc ...

I had to laugh at this because of a certain thread I did a while back:

UFO's: Shoot at them till we down one of them!

Yep, shoot them all! With whatever you got! Pistols, rifles... even RPG's?

Crossbows?

I don't care! The problem is, we've been putting up with them for ages. And they sit up there in their fancy little ships, spying down on us, abducting us, implanting strange devices in our nasal cavities, and causing more controversy than Dubya. It's time to lay this for rest, once and for all!

We wanna know! And if the governments can't come clean and clue us all in, then we have a right to find out on our own! So shoot em. Until someone gets lucky enough to put a bullet through just the right spot on one of those flying little anti-gravity buggers. Besides, it's prolly one of the cheap models, built by outsourced labor from the planet next door! (They have been studying the way we do things around here, right?) So that means they skimped on armour and electronics, leaving them open for a bullet up the ying yang.

The "Mile long" craft gets me the most.
I know people will say "they had no idea of size" but I imagine if you were there and you called this thing a mile long.. no matter the case and no matter what you may think, this thing had to be absolutely huge. H U G E

What gets me is what the heck kind of craft needs to be a mile long anyway? It's reports of these sort of craft that support the theory we're nothing but a zoo. It sounds like the ferry you take in Disneyland while you check out the local specimens on display.

The "end times" comment was outlandish. Not that the situation probably didn't seem outlandish to the person, but if Armageddon is here, why would Jesus or whomever is responsible for the end times come down in a fancy hotrod? The stereo typical phrase "can't handle the truth" fits perfectly here.

Interesting report and it looks as if 2008 is already living up to the hype..

My iPod has a cam
My XDA has a cam
My Cellular has a cam
MY cam IS a cam

Pictures and/or video or it didn't happen.
In this day and age why can't people whip out a camera and get aa 5 megapixel picture of these things?

Walking home last week I saw a silent glowing orange object moving across the sky.
I whipped out my phone cam 2MP & XDA 3.2MP and snapped it, used digital zoom and snapped it again.
I watched it moving from right to left until it was obscured by buildings.
(Germany)

I must have taken about 30 pics with 2 devices.
Some were blurry, some were OK.
I got home and syncd to the PC and low and behold I had my 1st pics.

It was an IFO however upon examination, I had taken lots of pics of one of these:

Good video. It doesn't show the craft in question, but is a good interview of some of the eye-witnesses. My favorite was the deer hunter. Judging by his description, this thing was huge, didn't make a sound, and could hover in one position. Doesn't sound like a normal airplane to me. He was very convincing and sincere. I'm willing to say that this is a legitimate sighting. Don't know what of, but I don't think it's a hoax.

Watch this video, if for no other reason, than to see his comment about starting an interstellar war.
