How "the law of attraction" works

Accoring to The Secret (which I haven't read and have no desire to as it just seems geared to making money) there were many famous historical figures who knew of the LOA and used it successfully.

Is that actually true and can anyone provied me with any examples or quotes to prove this?

I can't seem to find anything.

Einstein is considred a genius and Beethoven was considred a musical genius, but that doesn't mean they used the LOA does it?

I have been lurking at this site for quite some time and this thread has caught my interest. I have been reading 2-3 pages each day and have finally caught up. It seems to have stagnated a little as there are repeat questions; I will try to ask some new/newish questions;
1) Others have mentioned difficulty with visualization and I seem to be imagination challenged also. Of the books you recommended which woukd help with this or can you steer me in another direction to help with this?
2) I had an amazing experience with fasting once does this excercise have any tie-in/use in directing the LOA ?
(somehow I think Illahee may have some comment on this)
3) In using the LOA in conjuction with something you are working on physically; I believe that you were posting to someone that was attempting to lose wieght, and stated that it would occur twice as fast...is there any trick to doing both seems like doing the work could negate faith, seems like on the one hand it may be less advanced or on the other more...any thoughts? Your comments have been appreciated.

There is a book called Ask and it is Given which the OP suggested. I've almost finished reading it and there are some good exercises in the book which are very helpful. I would recommend checking it out.

This is coming from somoene who only very recently started finding out about the LOA.

I received the book you suggested, started reading it, rather interesting; I am somewhat gaurded with receiving channeled information, there is the obvious scam factor (which a poster or two has mentioned already) and then there is the question of just what it is the person is in contact with, nevertheless I will continue the read with a gaurded if not open mind, thank you for turning me on to it.
My intention on this thread is to make an occasional comment on what I have read (here on this thread) and maybe an occasional post on anything I have learned/experienced as I study this topic.

Hello, well this whole thing is new to me too.

The book seemed a bit wacky at first, but I tried to read it with an open mind. The exerices in the last half of the book are the most useful aspect.

We can learn something from the lesson of Job as it relates to this system: the mind is never in control of dominant systems no matter how righteous it may be.

Interesting that you should refer to Job in an argument against the validity of the LOA. There are examples, and teachings in the Bible that support the validity of the LOA, there are many posts on this thread thatsupport this. Consider this from the very book you reference;

Did Job attract this? This verse is the only indication of something Job did that indicates why these horrible things happened to him. Or did Job have a premonition?
The question of why the righteous suffer has been discussed by many theologians & philosophers and I do not think we will figure it out here on ATS. My suggestion would be to not toss the LOA simply because new agers espouse it, adter all I am sure they (new agers) wear pants, will you stop wearing pants because this is a new age practice?

LafingWithTears, try reading Neville Goddard, if you haven't so far. You appear thoughtful enough to discern the points that may be of use to you, regardless of the underlying "theology" (on which I am expressing no opinion whatsoever at this point).
You can get practically all of his writings on the web, free of charge.

There is also another interesting author that may be of help to you: Vadim Zeland and his "transurfing".
Google him out or just go to Amazon.

Oh, and if you want to develop visual imagination, you just start doing it.
Any primer on yoga, for example, will tell you to first observe an object - as simple as possible - and then close your eyes or avert them and try to reconstruct the image, down to the smallest details.
What I am saying is, there is no other way to develop it.
Determined practice is the way to go.

But the most important thing - besides having absolute faith that it will work (there are no shortcuts around that one) - is this: feel the situation desired with your entire BODY.
Literally, feel it with your skin, your shoulders, your face. Breathe the air, walk the ground of the situation you're trying to live into. You have to feel it is happening NOW - not in the head, but in the PHYSICAL now.

AHHH this says it all for me....this is how it works...plain simple....have NO Worry....
Im in no way "religous"...but indeed to have FAITH in the universe and complete trust...
it always works out for me. ahh the mustard seed ..love that! If one has that amount of faith...the size of a tiny seed...it incompases it all! Of course living ones life with love and care..is the only way to be.

Thanks for the links. The 100 to 1 excercise helped a lot; the relatively simple visualization of numbers seems to get the mind warmed up for more elaborate visualization, at least that is how it is working for me.

I think I am starting to get that s***.

Just watched "Groundhog Day" (1993) movie w/ Bill Murray, that movie that Skyfloat suggests a lot.

Watch that s***, It's not just funny, It is revealing. Of course It has the "hero journey" hollywood style and the woman/lovers part which every sucessful movie contains, but the message is priceless.

Like Matrix, I'll watch that movie until It hurts.

When I first read your post I thought; no it cant work like that. Then I got to thinking about a book I had read several years ago, this guy started an orphanage and said he was going to pray it into existence and he did. Like yourself & SF said he did not ask for $ but prayed that a specific thing would be done some of these things would come about by extraordinary means but most of the time he would get a chunk of cash always enough to do whatever he needed and sometimes to the dollar. Many and I mean may of these cash infusions came from legacies. Dying may not be an undesirable thing if you are old & suffering from an illness but he did not write about the circumstances surrounding these legacies he would say something like; $2000.00 came in from a legacy just prior to winter setting in, the exact amount needed to get the furnaced replaced. Has made me think twice about setting up any legacies, probably better just to be generous while you are still alive.
When I was younger I asked for wisdom in a broad opened ended way. A really bad person came into my life I did survive and it provided an education. This may have been a case of new wine nto old wnieskins like SF talked about, in any case when I ask for something now I add "that this come gently and with harm to none", maybe unnecessary but I aint takin any chances.

Like attracts Like- I have experienced this many, many times. For example, at a Boy Scouts meeting we had to get into groups with people I didn't know at all. I look around, see what looks familiar to me and gravitate towards the familiar. The group I chose were exactly like me; same background and experiences. Not necessarily a good thing because I realized later that wow, they are from everything I'm striving to move forward from. Again, Jury Duty; I walk into a room full of people and look around, wondering where to sit and what looks familiar and comfortable; choose a spot next to a guy and strike up a conversation only to realize that wow, we think exactly alike. My kids' friends, same thing with them. All their friends are exactly like what I don't wish for them to be. So, in essence I have passed this down to my kids even though I thought I really and truly gave them a better life than what I had (namely poor white trash). I'm college educated and thought I had covered up that part of myself from my childhood. Basically, attraction is an energy we put out and like energy attracts like. That is my experience in a very simplified summary and it blows me away every time.

I've been reading alot on LOA and how to use a proven formula to see consistent results.

So far important steps that I think were not in the "The Secret" are:

-Writing about what you are attracting
-Feeling good is vital because if you write about it, visualize it, see it, but you have some negative baggage you are not putting out a strong enough frequency
-How to visualize about what you are attracting, Sky floating eluded to this and I'll use his quote which is great
"All you have to do is visualize something for it to come true"
This is another simplification which, many will experience themselves, is not entirely correct. First of all, in the metaphysical-sciences, the purpose of visualization is not to "make something happen", but to experience something as "already happening" and to get into a certain state-of-being, a certain frequency...which then attracts certain beneficial events. What most people do, however, is use visualization of dreams out of a state of LACK of those dreams, in other words, in order to "make them happen some day". This is contradictory to the law of attraction though. Proper visualization is not used to "make something happen later", but to FEEL the reality of something right now, to familiarize oneself with the overall vibe of a certain reality. Also, most only visualize a two-dimensional image in front of their forehead. This is much less effective than making the visualization a three-dimensional, tactile, all-senses, whole-body ecstatic experience. It is not the visualization that creates anything, but the energy/emotion/excitement which acts as a magnetic signal.

Thanks for this.I was wondering how all this works seeing as everyone seems to have a different view on it.Clears things up a little bit.Been reading a lot on this and what you've said has always pretty much been the basics of the law of attraction.But humans of course have this magical ability of distorting things.Guess it all got to do with how people absorb information and try and connect it to other ideas.

I'm still trying to find out a way to make this thing work for real. I know it is true because I've already got some results with small things I wanted, most of them not exactly like I visualized or wanted, but satisfying nonetheless. Still trying to make this "magic" work with big stuff. Maybe it just takes more time visualizing and building energy for greater things to happen?

I posted some stuff on here about 2-3 years ago also as far as secret techniques to attract stuff.

But all I have to say since then ...is Go for enlightenment .......seek the Kingdom of Heaven within you. Its 100% Absolutely Real and its better than all the money in the world, its better than having Both Jessica Alba and Scarlet Johanssen fighting over you in bed, its better than anything that you can possibly minsifest using LOA.

If anything use LOA to manifest Enlightenment. At that point you are beyond desire and yet you experience pure ecstasy, Bliss, Love, Infinity........ ITS FRICKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!
