I understand what has happened here and I think that it is totally reasonable that springer be allowed on the "inside". The title of mod is obviously just an unavoidable side effect of springer being allowed access to the cosmic forum, We have been told that he is not an official moderator, why is that so hard to understand?

anyway, thanks Springer for your help

Access to the beer fridge and your own Swingline stapler of course.

And I said, I don't care if they don't promote me to Mod either, because I told, I told Simon that if they move my threads one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told SkepticOverlord too, because they've moved my threads four times already this year, and I used to be near the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the ATS on fire.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Springer, and congradulations on your "promotion".

I have absolutly no problem with you being a Mod, and I don't see why others do.

Actually, they could make anyone a Mod, I wouldn't care, as long as it's not ILovePizza lol... (just kidding)

Parts of this thread PROVE the old adage that "No good deed goes UNPUNISHED"...

Class divisions don't exist here at ATS (I KNOW the truth I have access remember?), this was a BUSINESS PROPOSITION.

I WILL NOT waste my time with who stays or goes I don't do office politics.

I WILL NOT lord over anyone, frankly, I have more than enough of that type of power in my "real world" business and I come here for fun, debate, discussion and education NOT power trips.

Everyone have a grand evening...

PEACE...

Springer what do you do for a living??

Governing, moderating, administering is a service not reward. They have to work, they are responsible, they have to pay in cash for hosting, take care of the site, doing backups, having shifts, fighting with plain stupidity of weird members etc. We have only space for discussion, ramblings, and rants.

Yes the points system is plain stupid enhancing serial posting behavior; yes WATS is not perfectly clear way to promote good posters. RATS marketing is not extremely smart idea.
WATS is the only status symbol. Moderators are our staff working for members.

Thanks Springer. I also have to find a way to help to the site owners as well.

Any idea brothers members?

You know, you would think that exposing the facts, what's going on, and being totally honest about it to all the members would help avoid trouble, and keep everyone happy...

Seems some people are never happy...

Even when it's about decision as theses, wich IMO only concerns the staff & the site owner... You know, they could do what they want and not let the people know...

You should be glad & happy that they are so open about all this stuff

Big thumb down to all thoses who found a reason to rant about it... You know? Without Springer, maybe the website wouldn't even still be online !!! THINK ABOUT THIS and SLEEP ON IT!

Thanks Springer, and congratulations

From springers posts I understand him to be a level headed, smart person. I also see he's been around a while , so I think it is a great addition to the staff to promote him. It's one thing to donate money, but another thing to make an investment. I'm sure it didn't come cheap either, so I don't think its really a matter of paying a couple of bucks to get 'inside'. He's just looking after something he cares about enough and is able to help out with money.
Please, all this nonsense about bribery should end. Once again, thanks Springer.

And also while I'm posting, Thanks Simon and SO for ATS. It's my favorite site.

Incredible read. It would seem that two very important points are missed by some. What
is a Guest and what is a Host? Guests are treated like royalty, housed and fed for free,
and dont have to do the dishes. And a bad Guest starts to act like the King he has been
treated as, never realizing that, like fish, he starts to smell after a few days of that attitude.
The Host of course will provide these things and treatment to the Guest. Springer is
a Guest who decided to help pay for the Hosts expenses. This means he is now partly
your Host. He has been acknowledged as another part of the HOST. (This was not
necessary and like some have said, it should give a warm feeling as to the honesty of
all your Hosts.) For those guests who still have a complaint, then know you are not
welcome in my abode as I detest the smell of rotting fish.

If you wouldn't mind me asking, how much did you actually donate to the funds?

Also, congratulatoins!

I think its fairly pointless to complain on the reasons for people being promoted to mod...last time i checked we dont have a public election to decide new mods..So untill there are public open elections for new mods they can choose anybody for any reason they choose..The head guys could let their family or friend be mod just because they know them..I think the guys complaining are the guys who are not mods but think they deserve to be..

so lets get some public elections for mods..that would be fun..maybe 1 or 2 mod elections a year would be cool

I don't feel that it is any of our business how much the contribution was. I'm just glad he was there and had the means to help keep ATS running.

Springer, Thank you for helping out when it was needed.

ZeddicusZulZorander, Milton Waddams would be proud.

Peace,

You know...these comments are typical of the socialistic tendencies running rampant in the world today...

capitalism I love it.

Capitalism - the only way people with limited mental faculties can rise above the hordes of mentally superior masses and show that they too can # up in high places.

Shame on you for trying to take that away from Springer!

(p.s. The point system is NOT for becoming a mod - I don't know who misled who on that one. Modship comes from being selected by the staff and current mods.)

socialism - the stage of development where society transforms itself into an economic system based on production for use rather than production for profit, where social need plays a much larger role in political and economic decisions, where the 'commanding heights of the economy' are socially owned and run on behalf of society, where people can begin to transform themselves, and while the remains of the capitalist class are in the process of being dismantled... disabling them from feeding off the proletariat.

side note: i have no comment on the original debate
