Russia suspends arms treaty -- The World War III Wheels are in Motion.

news.bbc.co.uk

Russia's parliament has voted to suspend Moscow's support for a key treaty limiting the deployment of armed forces along its border with Europe.

Parliament's lower house, the Duma, unanimously agreed to temporarily abandon the 1990 Conventional Forces in Europe treaty (CFE).

I wonder how long it will be before they start moving those tanks to the front lines?

World War III is on it's way. Hopefully the American people will come out in droves to protest it.

The gubment and their money making war machine seems to be accomplishing it's goals.

Well, in my opinion, this is because of the aggressive US statements lately about World War 3 and so on. Other countries tend to react to stuff like that. And there is no secret that Putin thinks the US wants to control the world, and he knows about them putting weapons in space now.

This could be precautions though. I think they realize that the US still wants to bomb Iran, and they have said before that they will not accept that. I wonder who China will support.

I seriously doubt China will be supporting us.

We, as a country, are making too many enemies too quickly.

I, for one, don't really want to wake up anytime soon to bombs falling or mushroom clouds.

I know, same here. Every time I read stuff like this I want to get off this planet and leave the war mongers behind to fight it out... they are slow learners and keep making the same old mistakes leaders before them have made throughout history.

Surely you must agree Putin's recent statements have been very unhelpful. They come thick and fast almost everyday now almost in a deliberate attempt to escalate the crisis, knowing full well that US will take the flack for it no matter what

In my humble opinion its a reaction to what the US is doing. Russia is trying to assert its role on the international stage, and will therefore end up in conflict with the US who wants to be the sole dominator and decide what country gets to do what.

As for it being unhelpful, I think its a matter of perspective. If you have a bully on the world scene, what is the best way to handle him? I think its probably to try and stand up to him instead of retreating. But I can see someone having a different point of view on this of course.

He shoots......................

wait for it..................

wait..................

he SCORES!!

Once again I'm in agreement with you 110%. The United States and Israel have been making threatening and DEMANDING statements for a good long while now. I personally take the comments from Putin (who is still the devil in disguise in my honest opinion) as retaliatory. Same goes for the comments of Ahmadenijad (or however you spell it after 20 hours of no sleep hahaha).

Copernicus, you and I are getting on a trend of being in total agreement around here at the old news post. Perhaps we should join forces and rule ALT.News with an iron fist.

You absolutely right Copernicus.
Reading your post I thought about what Putin said about Democracy:
“Am I a ‘pure democrat’? (laughs) Of course I am, absolutely. The problem is that I’m all alone---the only one of my kind in the whole wide world. Just look at what’s happening in North America, it’s simply awful---torture, homeless people, Guantanamo, people detained without trial and investigation. Just look at what’s happening in Europe---harsh treatment of demonstrators, rubber bullets and tear gas used first in one capital then in another, demonstrators killed on the streets….. I have no one to talk to since Mahatma Gandhi died.”

Damn, the bastard sure thinks highly of himself, no?

While I can't stand him and think he's but one, among many, of the world's tyrants. However, I feel he is perfectly justified (at the moment) in what he says and does. Well, except for the outright lies hah.

I don’t think Putin think highly of himself.
He was asked what he thought about democracy, and just tolled the truth that every where you see in this world is only a masquerade of democracy.
For him the only true democrat was Ghandi so then no other leader of any charade democratic country can criticise the way he govern.
When you see Bush, talking about USA the "beacon of freedom" in this world...you really want to laugh.

Not to offend anyone but WW III on it's way?

if you use the current events as an indicator WW III has been on it's way
the tension in the middle east has been going on for quite sometime. It
was just easier in the past for the CFR (council on foreign relations) to hide or censor information but now we live in the age of real time reporting so information is much more accessible and less likely to be censored..

Looks like Putin wants to reclaim the old glory days of the Soviet Union before its collapse. Good old days.

It looks like nothing more than retaliation for the US plans on the missile defense shield.

After the invasion of Iraq and the attacks on Afghanistan, you can not be surprise if other nations no only in the middle east but abroad will be becoming more defensive.

We most remember that US is very well expanded over the world.

Also Russia, China and Iran are partners, so I wonder when China will start making their own rules also.

What we are looking at is a set of reactionary regimes bickering over who gets to play with the teather ball. unfortunately, all kids involved are too wrapped up in their rhetoric to realize what another full scale war would do to this planet.

My main concern is if a world war does get started (and so far, all Ive seen is rhetoric and saber rattling, nothing new) how far along is the US Strategic Defence Iniative? The Star Wars protocol removes all deterrance from US bombardments. If the US administration can stop all missles in the air with the SDI, what would stop their missles from obliterating whatever they want?

This has been in the works ever since the idiot and his so called advisors backed out of the ABM treaty in 2001.

Ok, quick look at the facts before people start saying anything crazy.

1. This agreement was made during the Cold War years. If that doesn't make it outdated then I can't help explain why Russia wants out of it.

2. The treaty was revised in 1999 and Russia ratified it, NATO didn't. Another nail in the coffin as to why Russia wants out.

I would list a 3rd but i'm not sure on this one point. In the revised 1999 agreement does it state that Russia has to pull its troops out of Georgia and Moldova?

If it isn't listed then why is anyone upset over this? We should be asking why NATO hasn't ratified this? What is their part of the agreement? Did they even start on those items yet?

I am not defending Russia, but look at the facts before thinking about WWIII. Deny ignorance. Base your ideas on the facts not emotion or anything that isn't real.

I so agree with that. It's kinda similar to the situation where you're out drinking... bump into a guy and he says something like "If you're not more careful next time it might end up in us stepping outside".
What do you do next, you start gathering your mates, just in case. The other guy sees that, misinterprits, and starts gathering his mates.
Suddenly you're having a completely unneccesary row with eachother because of a slight accident or something stupid said in the moment of weakness.

And let's face it... weakness is Bush's strong side ain't it? Pond intended.

Right, Putin does not want a U.S. missile defense (ground based, not space based BTW) to make russia feel "impotent". Especially since Putin is busy trying to return russia to the "glory days" of the soviet union.

Russia is trying to assert its role on the international stage, and will therefore end up in conflict with the US who wants to be the sole dominator and decide what country gets to do what.

How soon we all forget what a country (soviet union) truly bent on world domination (Kruschev at the UN: We will bury you!) is like. And Putin wants to return russia to that ...

Of course. Even you have a different (hypocritical?) point of view when you talk about the U.S. No, the U.S. shouldn't stand up to bullies. The U.S. should retreat/back down. It's only opponents of the U.S. that should stand up and fight.

You truly want world peace? Has to be a level playing field then. the rules have to be the same for all.
