Bomb Iran, majority of Americans say

rawstory.com

Despite President Bush's perpetually abysmal approval ratings, it appears his increasingly hostile rhetoric against Iran has drummed up enough fear of a "nuclear holocaust" or a World War III that a majority of Americans are in favor of a US strike against the country aimed a curtailing its apparent nuclear ambitions, a new poll shows.

Wow, this is disturbing. What have the people in this country become? Bombing iran would be the worst possible thing this country could do. Ok so yea Iran's leader says that Israel should be wiped from the map. But do you really think they are that stupid? If they nuked israel, and they still need 3 years at least before they will even be able to build ONE nuclear weapon. So whats the big deal? If they did nuke israel, they would undoubtedly be wiped from the map themself, and thats not in there best interest. Look at the facts people. The United states could be the best nation in the world, instead this country makes war on little counries that pose no real threat to US. And still our southern border is just open to anyone willing to walk across it. Our ports are still very unsecured. Its riddiculous. What is it going to take for the majority of people in this country to wake up?

You think the war is about security? No. Not at all. Its about money, and it always has been.

Dont let our deceitfull "leader" run this country into the ground. I never voted for him. Our beautifull country and its wonderfull people deserve better than this. DEMAND our freedoms back, we cannot allow our freedoms to be stolen in the name of false security. We cannot allow war to be fought over lies. We cannot let the corporations continue to rule over the people. WE CANNOT LET THIS COUNTRY BOMB IRAN. Why do we try and be the world police? We are just gaining more and more enemies. Why cant we just worry about our own problems. No more BLOOD for OIL.

WAKE UP, or suffer. The choice is yours.

It's not only the leaders or government, also the highly corrupt media is playing an extremly vital role in this disgusting game of mass mind control. Poor sheeps we are.

How can so many say they don't want war against Iraq and that they disapprove of Bush, and then want to attack Iran? They're taking their dirty hands and washing them in mud.

Remember, this is just one poll though:

I so agree with you on this part of your post. While I certainly think that Iran should be dealt with, I think America is running on a short leash. Our borders, with seemingly no interest by the powers that be, are wide open. Anyone who has a true desire to cross our border can... Yet, we claim there is a"war on terrorism." Really?

It seems to me that if this war was about terrorism, one of the first things this nation would have done is secured its borders, Yet, we didn't...

To me, this "war on terrorism" has a lot more to do with religion than security or any of the other reasons commonly given. However, I'm not going into all of that here.

"It is utterly stunning that, after the great difficulties we have clearly faced in Iraq (a situation far from finished, by the way), that an absolute majority would favor a strike on Iran at this time," writes Dr. Steven Taylor at PoliBlog. "Even if we assume that the die-hard 25%-30% who still approve of the way the President is doing his job also are in favor of such a strike, where do the other 27%-22% come from to get the pro-strike total to 52%?"

It appears the good Doctor above has let his own prejudices cloud his judgement on those who may oppose his values.

Certainly there is a media presence at play here. The OP refers to the sheep, again this may be another case of being mystified at those who may think differently.

I suspect there are indeed up to 30% still approving of this administration. I think the 22-25% which would credit the majority are probably classified as moderates. I think there is just a general dilusion amongst the masses when it comes to the numbers.

Seeing as most main stream media would be considered left leaning, I think many feel this represents a larger portion of the population thaen there truly is. I would say the hard core anti-war crowd represents perhaps 10% of the populace. However vocally, they represent 80%.

The Zogby International survey shows 52 percent of Americans would support a strike on Iran...

They never ask the questions I would like to see answered. For instance, I would like to know: out of that 52%, how many could identify Iran on a map.

and who made these numbers up ? GW Bush himself ???

Bombing Iran is foolish and stupid. more war drum banging from the administration again huh ??

Hell...lets bomb every country on earth...then no one can disagree with us ever again right ? then we can force democracy down everyone throats (for their own good right?)

this administration makes me sick to no end. Lunatics all of them.

I don't know about this. To me bombing Iran would start WW3. I don't see any reason for this at all.

Ok. I'm sure I am going to get a lot of heat for saying this, but I rather have GW over the Iranian president any day of the week. Have you heard the insanity their president has been applauding? His idea of rhetoric is killing all homosexuals and victimizing capitalist Americaan pigs as a hobby. I guess it is ok for the leader of a major world power who claims nuclear intelligence and proficiency to be that way?

Their country's plans are WAY worse than most believe

I'm not saying we should bomb Iran, however I can see why many Americans have a skewed view

that their country isnt imune to nuke attacks
a couple of nukes next to major facilities or in large cities would be a faver returned.

This is total BS propaganda. Polls are for Pole Cats! Total and complete rubbish - the results of which can be construed any which way and, besides, it all depends on who you ask, how you phrase the question and when you ask it. I have personally participated in conducting a political poll. It was total crap.

I reject this report and the results completely. I do not know anyone who supports the prospect of war with Iran, bombing Iran or anything of the sort. Again, this is BS and we should not go around repeating it and giving it any credit whatsoever. Reports like this are just little info-bombs hurled at our psyches to gauge our likely (or unlikely) support or to condition us to get used to whatever crap they will try to run up the flag pole next. DON'T SALUTE!

BTW A Pole Cat is a type of weasel!

Can you tell me exactly who has said we should nuke Iran? If you're going to ascribe certain sentiments to policy makers, you should provide quotes of just one, that has said we should nuke Iran. What they have said, is that they don't want Iran getting a nuke, or even won't allow Iran to get a nuke. That is an entirely different statement.

You seem a little on edge Jack.

I see it a little differently. You can not discount a poll because it does not align with your personal views. I think it is unfair of you to announce to the ATS community that each and every one of us should turn a blind eye to these results. Why? Cause you said so?

Nope, not me.

Look I don't want to bomb Iran either but I will look at the poll and try and make a little more sense of it then you apparently have. Again the raging anti-war crowd might represent 10% of the population on a good day. They do however represent 80% of the screaming every day.

Why is this disturbing to you, because many, and it appears a majority do not share your opinion on Iran and what should be done? I understand you are distraught and think all who differ in view are either sheep or stupid. That is the classic thought process of those who "know better than all the rest". You can't possibly be wrong, everyone else must be.

Here is one of the biggest conspiracies out there: That there are actually moderates in the Iranian government and politics. We have been trying to find them since 1979 and the record is abysmal. Remember it was under the socalled moderates in Iran that their nuclear program with hidden facilities and A.Q. Khan was really being built and planned.
