Yes it may look like they are in a losing side if they stop having business with the US.

But China is doing very well cementing relationships with other nations, let say US economy collapse for some reasons, I imagine that China full of goods are pretty open to any markets that will have them.

Don't forget the debt, they hold enough debt to be able to influence our policies in the world they have lobbyist just like any other nation that wants to have their will look upon and money is not a problem.

Remember that our congress when open in the morning for section are as well opening for business.

Countries can't buy more products then they can sell. If USA collapses for some reason, China will have too many toys and crap that no one wants to buy, and if they did, they would not buy it all. So China would have to export less, so less Income will be in their pockets.
If the US dollar collapses then guess what will happen to China's 3 trillion?
It will be worth nothing. China is not dumb, they do not want their best trading partners out of the game. The US collapse will not just effect the US, it will effect many parts of the world, which then will come right back to China.

As you can see United states is one of China's top trading partner, and most of the rest are our allies. So why would China want to lose all that business in order to bring down our economy?
If you were the leader of China, you must ask yourself is it worth bringing down one of my best trading partners because of a little disagreement?
To me personally I would never bring them down, in fact I would keep them closer for better trading.
If they start dumping US debt, guess who will buy them? most likely our allies. If China stops doing business with the US it will hurt both sides and not just the United States economy.

Is Hong Kong even a country? I thought it was a city....

In one side I can agree with you and China not wanting to lose what it have, but on the other side we can never know what is their minds and what plans they have up their sleeves.

If you are selling goods to a nation that is your biggest buyer why do you want to send goods that are full of problems as to make your buyer unhappy.

Something doesn't add up and I can not have China as just making mistakes with no ill intentions.

I think that our nation pursue of its war in Iraq is going blind to China and whatever plans it may have against our nation and our economy.

Plus the corporations doing business with China in their haste to make profits are going blind also.

I find the multitude of defective chinese products to be alarming. From lead in our childrens toys to organ killing fillers in our pet food. I'm having a great deal of difficulty believing these are oversights. The fed had to pump nearly a 100 billion in our market to float it. The dollar is in serious jeopardy. We are going to have to buck up for changes soon. Trillions of dollars going to support Iraq war is leaching the flesh off of America.

The US is the blame for that and not any other nation. The invasion of Iraq made the oil producing countries shift their power to the Euro. China,Russia and Japan have a good amount of the dollar reserve, they are considering a shift to the Euro as well, which will speed up the free fall of the dollar.
If the dollar collapses then the whole world will be in a global depression, the nations with a big amount of US dollars would not be able to trade it properly which will make it useless, then they will slide into bankruptcy. New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the UK will eventually collapse because they can not service their borrowings.

ThanksEqunox I have been looking into various scenarios to what may or may not happen with the dollar.

Our once mighty dollar is really getting a beating, and I find that very upsetting that we have allow this to happen.

Great Post and good point!

I just luv all the "newbies" that show up anytime China is questioned about its intentions. Congrats to China for usefully utilizing of propoganda on a site like abovetopsecret.

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all the people all of the time!

PS - notice in the import/export numbers, the US exports nothing to China and is about the only major country with a trade imbalance with China!

I have stated for quite some time now to family and friends that china is trying to poison us. Like the rest of the post's here, I too can't understand WHY!

I know its happening, its just not a coincidence that our pet food, clothes, toothpaste and who knows what else has poisoneous toxins in it.

I have taken all my son's toys and thrown them out(the one's made in china that is) and actually he helps me, I told him they could be dangerous and contain lead and he helps me fill the garbage bags and toss them. I just will not take that chance of him being put at risk. but then again I have to wonder, what else contains these toxins that we don't know about yet

The INTERNET have some sites with list on the items been taken by the FDA from the markets that are from China.

I read everything from before I buy then to make sure where is made.

Is not that I do not want the Chinese goods but I have lost confidence on them.

This not to boycott them but to take security measures.

If you are calling me a newbie, I beg to differ. I am studying economics, this is what I plan to do in the future, so I am not a newbie.
I am stating this, if China destroyed the US economy then it is not the US that will only feel the aftermath, China will greatly feel this as well. It means China would have to have many people laid off because the US would not be able to purchase goods from them. With many people laid off, their crime rates would sore through the roof. Countries will not be able to purchase all the goods that China makes for the US. Other countries will virtually buy less stuff from China because many other places will become bankrupt, and their $ will drop.
But what do I know, I am just a newbie.

After all the China scare and damaging China's reputation, and over politicalising by the media. It turned out that China was largely a scape goat for design flaws.

Though it was no excuse for Lead-tainted toys, but they accounted for only a small percentage of all toys recalled and is overly inclusive. Taking note that it only represent a small fractions of the huge imports of China goods in the US.

BTW, China Threat was marketed by US for over 60 years, and US is claiming military dominence in China's door step, and are still fly spy mission outside their 12 mile range.. and using China reason for increase military spending (latest being F22), while condemning China's relatively small military budget, as compare to her size.

Exactly, I don't think China has any real ideas on America. Just they are finding their feet. Personally I think the US is a wee bit paranoid and that is a bigger problem.

What would happen if money changed it's self overnight? could happen, could go back to exchanging goods and services instead of 1's and 0's.

One more thing to add to why China does not need to destroy our economy. Well, this one is obvious but it has not been mentioned. China knows our economy is going down the drain without them doing anything, it is not China's fault but our own. People spent more money then what they can afford, and now it is coming back to haunt us. So, why would China want to do anything? All it has to do is sit back and watch us destroy ourselves.

I wonder how long it will take for the Chinese to stand and deliver on pollution issues that are choking there nation. I have seen the pics of commuters wearing masks, the farmer going ballistic from chemical spills. It's socialist regime will likely quash any new 'Tienamen'.
I'd really love it if Walmart and others would use US producers but that likelihood is probably nill until the dollar sinks so low it would be economically favorable.

Thinking of China vs USA is a fundamental flaw in how things work. You are looking at the world as a bunch of nations. This is not right.

Those in power in China are the SAME people in power in USA and Europe. I can source this. Look at the Brookings Institute, top trustees run US Companies, Intel, Ford, Hasbro, ect. They also run Chineese stock exchange, Chineese banks and expansion into china.

The current rulers of China and USA are friends. Together they are at war, they are not at war with each other, they are at war with us the rest of the people.
