what is up with this thread title?! get it under control, people.

because of the HYPE posted here, i decided to read this proposal for myself. and honestly, i think it will be an invisible process to the average traveller. you will not be asked for papers or anything, just the normal government issued I.D. and the following:

>>>Full Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Redress Number

...oh, wait, what is this redress number??

turns out it is nothing more than a number issued to you by DHS to help speed things along if you have been inconvenienced by the screening process before (those poor souls whom happen to have the same name as someone on the terrorist watch list).

it all seems quite normal to me....well, that is if you consider terrorist paranioa to be normal.

so what if this was all true, but it didn't happen. Just in theory, we get wind of a natural disaster on its way before the media knows. Its nice to know we are just going to sit her and wait.

While I disagree with the idea and implementation of a federal ID card required to fly, I don't really see it as a reason to get out of the United States right now. I see it as a minor inconvienence and another step in the direction of lost freedoms. I figure I have another 5 years till I flee to Canada.

First off, you wont know if it IS the DHS, because it's a secret, you aren't allowed to know, So any minimum wage rent a cop at the airport can say you can't fly, and you think the "redress" number will be instantly answered? your call will be answered in the order it was received, so two days later you might get thru by that time you have already missed the wedding or funeral.....

Secondly, wait til this is done at the border of each state, unless you have the time to take back roads of course...

Oh and "flips the bird and peels rubber......and gets tasered to death for resisting arrest....."don't tase me Bro".......... look at the future..............

Exactly, Pellevoisin. When I was in the Soviet Union in 1977, you had to get permission to travel more than 25 miles from your home and it took about 6 weeks to get permission. It also cost far more than anyone but the elites could afford - IF they gave you permission. The only time they would give it, is if you had a very good reason for travel, which, in their minds, meant basically that no one could travel inside or outside USSR unless you were a bigwig.

Restriction of travel is a good way to control people. So if you write a letter to your congressman complaining about him/her, you might well be put on the No-Fly list and unable to travel outside the country or to another state to go to your mother's funeral, especially if you have to wait 72 hours.

I read about this about a year ago and it did include traveling by ship as well.

Travel state to state needs to be regulated so sex offenders from Ohio cannot make it into Florida. I am sorry but the US is a very, very large place coompared to almost any other country. There should be more regulation. If you are not a criminal, then you have nothing to worry about.

I suggest that everyone go and get a passport as soon as they can.

I really don't see how different this is all gonna be...All I think we can do at the moment is sit and wait and see. I'm all for car travel though
