The self-appointed are given such weighty responsibilities, no?

I feel as though you are straining under yours. How did I do on quoting? Did I get the name right?
You got the name right, that was just about all.

As for the attitude, North Korea needs more than 60 years of history, more than a cure for AIDS or cancer, and I believe you recognize what North Korea needs. What you are unwilling to acknowledge is that in this world there are, for better or worse, the weak, the powerful and the wannabes.
NK doesnt have to do anything to deserve the right to power their country or defend themselves, its complete and utter misplaced arrogances to suggest otherwise.

Oh, and the loud. There are definitely the loud, and probably by your estimation, the dumb. What you were doing was sarcastic, it was hyperbole and although you employed stereotypes in your description, it would by no means constitute stereotyping, which is an active continuous practice observed over an extended period of time by a person or group.

No, Stereotyping - "to have a fixed idea about what a particular type of person is like"

Thats exactly what you did and exactly what I did.

That's my own def., correct if you will.
It might have been your own definition but it was wrong, Ill take the dictionaries definition over yours. More misplaced smugness.

Stereotypically speaking, North Korea is a street thug with an inferiority complex. The United States is an overgrown bully right now with Dubya at the helm. Nuff said. There, I turned it back into the language of the thread...countries as people. Discuss.

The only one speaking about countries as people is you, it has nothing to do with the thread.

Let's can the attitude folks and get back to the topic, North Korea, just in case this has been forgotten.

What is your take, Intrepid? Don't just step in without adding.

My take? OK. I see a thread with off topic petty bickering that's going to warrant red flags if it doesn't end. M'kay?

Escallum,it says your location is washington. What borg posted was pretty out there. But dont lump in an entire nation of people. I've only been here maybe a year and a half, but this " my country is better" "_____ country is full of idiots, thirsty for war" type comments has increased dramatically. It really does no good the posters credibility when such wide generalizations are made. The whole" dont forget we bailed you out of ww2" comment goes right along with it.

So i have an idea. How about we all try to remember that when speaking of nuke, bio, and chem weapons that more than the U.S has them. If we say," oh well what makes the *insert country of choice* think they have the right to have them and no one else does, lets just lump all the nations in the same boat right along in there. Will save time, energy and de-railments of threads.

As for the TOPIC, so? North Korea test fires missiles. Every other nation does it. He wants attention. Thats all. Kimmy wont do anything. He may be crazy but dumb he is not. He knows if he attacks japan/s.korea its bye bye for him.

Lets pretend for a moment that the japanese people want to have nukes. If they voted on it,and put it into play we should say" ok,see ya later". And leave japan, never to return. For if japan had nukes, they would be asking for aggression. N.korea would become more paranoid, and lets not forget the bad blood between japan and china. Not a good thing to do.

Japan could have them very soon if they wanted. But i dont think they would want to. They are the only nation on the planet to experience the receiving end of nukes. Small ones by todays standards.

So while in discussions the fact that we are the only nation to use nukes against someone is brought up frequently,we must remember why we did it. Japan was building one,so was germany. SOMEONE was going to use. And whoever did would end the war...in their favor. It was either invade japan, and fight almost every man/woman/child to the death in street to street combat. Or use A-bomb to try and stop it sooner.

Everyone knows its a lose-lose situation. But japan knows better than anyone. N.Korea knows this also, and will not do anything. Not counting out rogue generals and the such.

My 2¥ on some of what`s been thrown around in this thread:

- Japan will not posess nukes as a deterrant. Not going to happen. The capability may be there - and from what I`ve heard, the capability is quite real - but the public would not be behind a strike unless a bomb took out Tokyo. There is no way that this government or any other government in the next 50 years is going to be allowed to have a public admission of the technology.

- Japan desperately needs to deal with the constitution and start building a proper armed forces. Currently, the SDF operate under the same regulations and budget as the local police. Of course, that idea barely flies HERE, let alone abroad. Here`s an interesting take on it though, from the Philipines, oddly enough:
www.abs-cbnnews.com...

- The LAST thing the region needs is the USA going in to "liberate" North Korea. NO ONE - not Japan, not South Korea, not Russia, and certainly not China - would see that as a good move. If anything, it would create further instability in the region. Any solution to this problem must be a product of NK, China, South Korea, Japan, and Russia. That`s it.

- To start solving all of this, from Japan`s side, NK needs to openly deal with the issue of Japanese abductions. Until that one is resolved, no one in the Japanese government will be willing to talk, least of all about economic help in rebuilding NKs infrastructure.

It that applied to the US, there wouldnt be much left of it. You want rules applied to other countries but not your own.

Care to explain this statement a bit further please? Oh, and DO use examples. Preferably ones that can be confirmed as accurate. And where exactly did I say that I wouldn't own up to my own mistakes? If you look around at my posting history, you'll find that I'm quite willing and able to own up to when I've been wrong. Please don't point the accusatory finger of hypocrisy at me.

The country of which I'm a part has it's faults, that's true, but not so much that "there wouldn't be much left of it." We, as a People, are in the process of changing things. Change for us takes time, as it does for anyone. I'm simply responding here to blatant military threats, as veiled as they may be, by a country that's classified as a member of the "Axis of Evil" by the US.

You are a typical keyboard warrior, beating your chest but unwilling to take part in the action you preach.

Already explained this above. I can't believe that you'd accuse me of something like this without even knowing me. I guess it's an understandable thing though. I believe I'll let it slide this time. Just know in the future that I own up to EVERYTHING that I say.

Its very easy to speak tough behind your monitor, isnt it?

Indeed it is. However, the "truth in the putting", if you will, comes from the staunch opinions that we express away from the keyboard. Let me ask you something. Do you talk to anyone "outside" about any of the things you discuss here?

On the NK, subject, I think they have every right to defend themselves after all, an attack by the US is far more likely than NK attacking anyone else, everyone should stay out of it unless they invade another country, same with Iran.

You know, I'd be willing to buy this, except for the fact that they're firing missiles over Japan. That, to me, is an act of aggression, and a precursor to war. Japan, in my opinion, has every right to defend herself, and the US will back her too, as will I. NK isn't clean in this by any means. They know exactly what they're doing, and they intend to try and draw in others, like Japan, to a conflict that they can make to look like one not of their own doing.

Bears watching regardless. Thanks for getting my hackles up though. Was refreshing...

So why bother building the missiles, and firing them over Japanese waters then? Kind of makes me wonder just what they've got going on there. Doesn't it make you wonder, just a little?
