Skynews, BBC, Kent Radio, KMFM

Eurotunnel came out within minutes to inform that it was okay.

Now i'm not suggesting anything conspiricy related here but most of the interviewies i've seen on the news are saying it sounded more like an explosion.... I've never experienced an earthquake so I don't know what they're like but that seems a bit odd to me.

good news about the chunnel and the cathedral though

the interviewies are comparing it to an explosion. thats why most of them said they thought it was a terrorist attack because we've never felt something like this before.

remember, earthquakes are rare in the UK on this scale. as my Dad said (who served in Northern Ireland with the Army) an explosion has a punch to it.

this didn't, my bed moved rapidly for about 4 secs.

USGS is useless for Europe...

EMSC has it as a 5. At a depth of 2km.

EMSC

USGS tracks earthquake data for the entire globe. That have the quake as a mag 4.7 at a depth of 10.0 km.

I'm not saying USGS isn't very good, on the contrary they are good, but compare their Europe map, to that of EMSC:

I'm pretty dissapionted at the inconsistancies of the magnitude here. It could be anywhere from 4.3 to 5.4
Well Is it or aint it? FFS what are these stations for and who do we believe?

I see your point, Apex. The European map is much more user-friendly and seems to show much more activity in the area than ours does. Thanks for the information.

Kent police are telling us that its 5.0, the local media in Canterbury is saying that aswell.

All i can say is that is was pretty strong, it woke me up and shook my bed badly. Plus, there are afew cracks in the walls...but only tiny things. Unsure if it was caused by the quake though. There is a lady near us who has a huge crack in her wall

Hi WOW!

4.3 on the Richter Scale according to an announcement made just now by the B.B.C.

It is also the largest reported since the Dudley tremor (2002)

I think it may be a secret DUI Deep Underground Installation, that may have received a surprise attack during an attempted takeover.

I don't ever recall hearing any explosion before an earthquake, I find that odd, unless it was the moment the electric supply went out.

Earthquakes are usually silent, save for the mad panic and debris falling on your head.

Is earthquake even listed as a part of the 'Act of God' clause in UK Insurance?

My friends Mum lives in Deal, she felt it as it nearly tipped her out of bed. I'm right up the other end of Kent and didn't feel anything although I'm not too far from Gravesend where someone said they heard a loud rumble or something. Interestingly I woke up about the time it occured though.

Isn't their a fault line under the English channel, could this have been responsible.
