The war against terror, or islamic extremism, or whatever you want to call it needs to be fought. The US and the Bush administration may have made some mistakes (they may even be more inclined to look at economic/oil reasons then military necessity for their choice and timing of targets: ie Iraq). But at least we are fighting this war. One that many of our fellow posters seem not to want to. With Islamic radicalism gaining momentum in Britian, France, and the rest of Europe, how long till some of you wake up. War is not a good thing, but neither is our own deaths, and loss of our own culture and society.

About what war against terror you are speaking??I live in Europe, and i didnt noticed that muslims are presing me??Ok i dont have many muslims in my country, but I have lived 2 years in Germany!Yes there is many turkish people and they live by their religion but thats all!!They dont walk around whit AK-47!!About what Islam radicalism are you speaking??And if you speak about war against terror than maybe U.S should invade Ireland and Spain because there is also two large terorist groups!!!I really dont feel that im losing my culture or society!!!So if you want to fight tour own war about oil than go for it!!!

Why is that a surprise? Where else do you want the American Carriers to be??

You'd like to see those nice grey ships rusting in their docks? Ah no way... That wouldnt be any fun!

The middle East is the only logical spots for those "Crown Jewels"

Keep on subject and keep the snide remarks to yourself, if you have nothing to add, move on to another thread to contribute. I am just updating on the progress of the ships to Gulf!

An interesting article from the New Statesman in regards to ship deployment and fighting forces in the Middle East set to strike.

The UN security council is set to meet in a few days and the way it is looking that Iran will tell the council to go F*$K them selves and the SHF soon after.

It looks as if the USMC will spearhead any ground attacks into Iran and the US Army will be in charge in Iraq, while NATO covers Afghanistan.

Iran - Ready to attack

The Bush administration has made much of sending a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf. But it is a tiny part of the preparations.

Post 9/11, the US navy can put six carriers into battle at a month's notice. Two carriers in the region, the USS John C Stennis and the USS Dwight D Eisenhower, could quickly be joined by three more now at sea:

USS Ronald Reagan, USS Harry S Truman and USS Theodore Roosevelt, as well as by USS Nimitz. Each carrier force includes hundreds of cruise missiles.

Today, marines have the USS Boxer and USS Bataan carrier forces in the Gulf and probably also the USS Kearsarge and USS Bonhomme Richard.

Three others, the USS Peleliu, USS Wasp and USS Iwo Jima, are ready to join them.

Earlier this year, HQ staff to manage these forces were moved from Virginia to Bahrain

Sorry Mel1962, it wasnt intended to be a snide remark

You are doing a great job getting us updated

I was just pointing out to the people who find it agressive for the US to be relocating their carriers in the gulf that they were not needed anywhere else, and that at the price they cost each, it would be suspicious to keep them around the mainland US (since it is not their purpose)

Things are starting to heat up!
Iran could make a fatal mistake here if they don't watch what they are doing.

There is way to much at risk here and a simple boat ride into Iraqi waters might just start things off.

I am sure people here are thinking Gulf of Tonkin being repeated and it just might come true if Iran keeps testing the waters....

From Barbara Starr
CNN Pentagon Correspondent

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Iranian patrol boats have increased attempts in the last week to assess defenses near Iraqi offshore oil terminals, U.S. military officials said Monday.

The Iranian actions at the northern end of the Persian Gulf have been a subject of operational briefings for U.S. military personnel in recent days, the officials said.

Second US aircraft carrier arrives near Iran

Also:

Hizballah's strength is greater today than it was in the Lebanon War last summer – Israeli military intelligence research chief

February 20, 2007, 10:47 PM (GMT+02:00)

Brig-Gen Yossi Baidatz reporting this to the Knesset foreign affairs and security committee was interrupted by defense minister Amir Peretz who disputed this data as relating to Hizballah’s “potential strength.”DEBKAfile notes: The official Israeli government line is that Hizballah came out of the war weaker.

Baidatz added Qassam missile attacks from Gaza have increased since the Mecca Reconcilian Accords were signed by Fatah and Hamas leaders two weeks ago.

And the casus belli to go in Iran:
US troops may attack nuclear and military targets in neighboring Iran when a high-casualty attack is traced directly to Tehran

So the next time something big explode in Iraq, the war in Iran starts.

And now Olmert tells defense heads to prepare for war with Syria

The article says that they think there's a low chance that Syria may initiate a full scale war on Israël for nothing, but would fight back real hard if Israël do any action against Hezbollah or Syria.

IMO, it's planned, they prepare themselves to crush Syria if Syria move in the upcoming conflict with Iran, after all Syria is allied with Iran. We'll see.

There is Only two CSGs in the Middle East now(anyway, two would be sufficient to bomb Iran over a continuous 24-hour cycle)

The USS Ronald Reagan is actually in Japan

According to the link you provided, there still is 4 carriers on the list, not 6. And one of the four listed, the JFK is slated for decommissioning on 23 March 07.

Also, expect the Nimitz to relieve the Eisenhower in the Gulf in next couple months.

TREASON - This word imports a betraying, treachery, or breach of allegiance.

The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort.

Many of you are suggesting this.

Which is why I am glad you are not good enough, or to scared, to be a part of our armed services.

There is so much disinfo and ignorance in this thread it isn't even funny.

Really Close To Iran:
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower - North Arabian Sea
USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) - North Arabian Sea
USS Ashland ('___' 48 ) - Arabian Sea
USS Boxer (LHD 4) - Persian Gulf

Could be near Iran in no time:
USS Bataan (LHD 5) - Indian Ocean
USS Shreveport (LPD 12) - Indian Ocean
USS Oak Hill ('___' 51) - Indian Ocean

Near China

USS Dubuque (LPD 8) - South China Sea
USS Juneau (LPD 10) - South China Sea

And a lot of them are in the pacific ocean but don't know exactly where they are... could be near Russia and China to deter them or could be at Pearl Harbor, don't know where they are... more information on this?
USS Nimitz (CVN 68) - Pacific Ocean
USS Tarawa (LHA 1) - Pacific Ocean
USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) - Pacific Ocean
USS Essex (LHD 2) - Pacific Ocean
USS Denver (LPD 9) - Pacific Ocean
USS Tortuga ('___' 46) - Pacific Ocean
USS Rushmore ('___' 47) - Pacific Ocean
USS Pearl Harbor ('___' 52) - Pacific Ocean

So there's 4 strike groups near Iran... and 3 others that could be there in no time... we'll soon see.

It appears that the Ronald Reagan has left Sasebo, Japan and into the East China Sea? Anyone have reports of the carrier group leaving Japan?
