Far more attractive? You've apparently not checked into the one called Christianity? From what I'm told, accept Jesus Christ as your savior, you'll get lots of chances, and you're going to paradise. What's simpler than that?

Well if hell is waiting for all the people i know who are unlucky enough to be alive today when most people are athiests then it is more attractive. Not baptised? Tough luck my child, bye bye.

All those who were alive before us, the Egyptians, Incans etc are all rotting in hell because they were just unlucky enough to miss out on certain important information. It's too medieval and too bureaucratic. Like you didnt pay the parking meter so now you have a ticket, even if you were hit by a bus before getting that last repenting in. Oh well, we cant bend the rules mate, see you in a billion years.

Actually it really isnt that simple, being just a good person apparently isn't enough, even if you are a real good soul and everything you do is for all things good, you'll burn if you don't believe, even though its pretty silly to assume that the bible hasnt been changed somewhat in the last 1500 years.

Who the [snip] knows what the original Bible looked like?

You gotta go to Sunday School when you're a kid and Church when you grow up which means you always get a late start fishing.

And therein lies the problem with discussing religion. Nobody agrees on anything when the subject comes up. I wasn't told about all those 'gottas' you listed.

Hello Dodgygezza.

Thanks for your comments.

Good question. Yeah, I can't wait to hear the response on that one.

Thanks again.

Well MrPenny, from what I can see the only advice Sleeper has handed out to me is “do the right thing”. I really don’t think attempting to make that change will “wreak havoc” on my life. If it does so be it.

Hello Elgaz.

Thanks for your comments.

I read your statements very carefully, and I certainly appreciate your very intersting point of view.

Regardless of what any of us say or do, Sleeper will just turn the page and keep on doing his job. He certainly deserves credit for that.

I like hearing what he has to say, as much as reading the comments of the other posters here.

This thread and the folks who post here are really entertaining, and often the posts are very intellectually stimulating and filled with thought provoking ideas. To me it proves that human beings are social creatures, interacting with each other, part of the larger collective of humanity. One can be an individual, but we should remember we are also part of, and responsible for, our family members as well.

Thanks again.

Hello JohnLear.

Thanks for your comments.

Is that some kind of provocative hint or what? What are you trying to say? That Sleeper is a part of some kind of CIA mind control experiment? Hell, John, we suspected that all along. Why don't you tell us about the CIA connection to COINTELPRO 'alien' disinformation? That would probably be a whole lot more interesting than talking about dresses, especially for a grown up man.

So what is the real reason you call Sleeper "Sleeper"? Don't just leave us twisting in the wind like a spinning prayer wheel. Explain yourself. We are all ears. We, the people, grant you the authority to speak. Come on folks, lets put Johh on the spot. Chant along with me... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk... John Lear must talk...

Come on John, spill the beans. You can do it.

Thanks again.

That’s profound, Mr. Lear, in more ways than one regarding to Sleeper’s nature ... and I sense there are subtleties that underlie such a statement. Details not yet reveled to most of us as to the nature of his awakening, would be my guess.

I had surmised that the name sleeper was a pun ... one that teased us at most of our own nature ... as such a joke seems in line with Sleeper’s sense of humor ... but you seem to hint there is more to it ... especially quoting a sentient, albeit fictional, computer upon it’s awakening/rebooting.

I also have to wonder, why so cryptic? I mean, we are all seeking some form of truth around here ... and while I’m aware that knowledge is perhaps the only thing of true value in this life, aren’t we all on the same side here, so to speak? It’s not us versus them ... it’s us versus ourselves in a lot of ways ... that seems to explain the most vicious of skeptics/detractors this thread accumulates.

So in that light, why not simply say what you mean rather than elude to it? I have come to expect that from sleeper’s quotes, but not so much from you ... just curious, I guess.

If that was the case, then every single piece of information I hear would change me.

Doesn't it? Some new idea or concept is presented to you and you are absolutely positive it does not change you? I don't think you can be so sure of your own steadfastness in the face of new, contrary, or controversial ideas.

If you are not changed by ideas and new information....why are you here? Why would you ever read a newspaper or tune in the news?

I have yet to meet a single human who can confidently state they are in complete control and aware of their subconscious activities. Simply acknowledging that things go on in our brains we are unaware of should lead us to conclude that quite possibly, we may even be changed by things we don't even consciously notice.

Suppose a developing country has citizens struggling to find potable water. Just whisper in their ear, you can make that water safe to drink with one tiny tablet. I'll bet that idea changes them, fast.

To answer your question, yes, I am absolutely positive it doesn't change me.

I am a deep thinker, thus I dwell a lot on things which other people may find insignificant, never mind the things which keep us awake at night. I can't speak for everyone; perhaps you and others find that every bit of information you absorb eats away at your subconsciousness, challenging you to accept it and process it. However, a long time ago I realise that everything we encounter in life can be compared to any other type of system where information is stored : you either file it or delete it.

A few times every month I find myself walking past a Christian preacher who stands with a loudspeaker proclaiming the way of the Lord. He stands on one of the routes which I commute daily. And a few times every month, I absorb his preachings, process them, and bin them. I stopped going to Church a long time ago and can *hand on heart* honestly say that nothing he preaches has any effect on me. It goes completely over my head. As far as I'm concerned, that subject is a closed book. That is simply one of numerous examples I could quote; however, I realise that many people's attention is stretched to the limit already with this thread so I shall leave it at that.

You seem intent on disproving Sleeper, or forcibly giving more credence to your take on life than his. Why is his story such a threat to you? If you truly have enough faith in your Religion and your way of life, then it wouldn't really matter what Sleeper says - you would not lose any sleep over it. However, all we seem to get from you is long and convoluted paragraphs written in an almost defensive manner.

At the end of the day, we are all adults and I would appreciate it if you could treat us like adults. People here are free to make their own choices. If we want to believe Sleeper, as I do, then let us. After all, your religion teaches that God gave us free will, thus it would be hypocritical of you to expect us to behave otherwise.

You have absolutely no idea what religion, if any, I may follow.

How can you prove or disprove sleeper for there is no real substance to do either, and because of that I tend to wait until I can one way or the other do it. Sleeper for me like others on ATS tends to push well beyond what I am willing to go, or more like what I care to go.

The big thing here is this is not my fault that I stop at a very narrow point of view and let the Sleepers of ATS just go on by. I tend to blame them more than anything else, because they offer nothing other than replies/answers that come to no conclusions to help move me forward.

When I ask a math teacher to help me with 1+1 and I get a page of calculus back and I say I need help to get there by starting with 1+1 and I get only vague statements like “one day you may know” or “when you want to believe the truth you will find it” they do not help me to get past 1+1. Sit down and show me 1+1 so I can learn the next, or in this case further beliefs.

Sleeper is like that and so is John for both act like they have knowledge that either we cannot comprehend or our minds are unwilling to accept the truth, but in reality we all would easily accept if there was any substance to all this to actualizes any part of it.

Hi Xtrozero,

I'm not actually here to prove or disprove sleeper. All I know is that sleeper, in his cocky-ass way, says as much about the purpose of our existence in 2 sentences as Vedic scriptures do in 16,000 pages.

For me, it's simply enjoyable to read.

Blame them for what? That would be like a student of mine saying he can't get it because I'm not doing my job. The students that take their homework home and do it generally get it. Those that don't do the work don't get it and generally don't care if they ever do. Yeah, they'd like to just master it and get the recognition, but they don't want the hassle of working for it.

He doesn't even have to be here. Nobody has to sit here and read his sub-standard attempts at comedic relief. Maybe the fact that he's goofing off 80% of the time is something worth noting in itself?

When I ask a math teacher to help me with 1+1 and I get a page of calculus back and I say I need help to get there by starting with 1+1 and I get only vague statements like “one day you may know” or “when you want to believe the truth you will find it” they do not help me to get past 1+1. I have literally been a teacher at times. I also sometimes have to train people at work. It is akin to pulling my own teeth out with pliers. Especially if they know next to nothing about what I'm teaching. The only reason I do it is for money. What motivates him to come here and take endless abuse is beyond me.

Sleeper is like that and so is John for both act like they have knowledge that either we cannot comprehend or our minds are unwilling to accept the truth, but in reality we all would easily accept if there was any substance to all this to actualizes any part of it.

I've never heard anything profound from John. Funny, yes, but not profound. Mind you all I've read of him are his small inputs here. sleeper, on the otherhand, can hardly tell a joke without transforming the chemicals in my brain.

I'm not kissing anyone's ass here. I'm just saying, from my point of view, that I can tell the difference between sh_t and shinola.

Like I've said before, sleeper could be pulling my leg about the alien stuff, but even if he is, I'm totally enjoying this dude's take on life. I find it quite liberating and fun to boot.

In your defense I too would like sleeper to bring on the meat and potatoes as far as what he says he can reveal. But, it's going to take me a lifetime just to integrate what he has already said. Until I can live my life with the kind of integrity he is talking about, what more do I need to know? And believe you me, I've done my share of searching for the truth of life.

Just the statement that "...we are vessels of integrity, not vessels of knowledge..." is all I need to know. The rest is gravy man.

Again, that's my view of it anyway.

Zen,,,,Here, here!

I agree totally!

BTW, outside of the re-writtten Bible, there is absolutely no real historical evidence that Jesus ever existed. The dead sea scrolls were supressed for over forty years because they clearly showed that most of christianity folklore was borrowed from the ancient sun worshipers over one hundred years before the Jesus character supposedly walked this planet.

Yeah, it was an eye opener for me.....do some research.

The Catholic corporation is vast, loosing money and dying.

Sleeper,

The exponential computing tech is going through the roof and more to come...

Why are we being given this tech download, now?

Yep, but people are literally terrified about acknowledging that religions are losing the foothold. If you even think along those lines you are considered "doomed". You don't even have the freedom to come to that conclusion yourself as it is considered "blasphemus" and "dangerous".

There is more hard evidence that aliens exist than there has ever been that a vengeful God exists. In fact, there is not a single tiny shred of proof.
