Okay, it's probably a bit premature to say anything big is happening here, but there's quite a few strange occurrences today (1/8/07):

Gas Odor in NYC
(Breaking) Large Number Of Dead Birds Closes Downtown Austin, TX
Suspicious Device at Port of Miami found today

And just for the heck of it, I'll include this for consideration as well:
Iraq invasion was for oil - confirmed

This is a couple of days old, but might be worth considering as well:
Israel Plotting Tactical Nuclear Strike on Iranian Nuclear Facilities

So, are there any dots that need connecting here? Are we on the threshold of another major event--either something out in the open like 9/11 or perhaps more behind the scenes--or is this just one hell of a day to own stock in CNN or Fox News?

I could go either way--part of me is half expecting to refresh CNN and see a big, bold "We're Under Attack!", and the other part of me is expecting today to slip quietly into the night.

Any thoughts?

(edit to add Israel/Nuke ATSNN link)

let's not forget, today is a very important day in that President Bush will be addressing the nation in regards to his plans for Iraq. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds later on tonight.

That could well be interesting--as 9/11 proved, what better way to garner support for an otherwise-unpopular undertaking than by a well timed attack? (Granted, of course, that one believes that train of thought...)

I'd completely forgotten about that ww. This could very well shed some light on past events if things unfold in certain ways.

I think Bush's speech is scheduled for Wednesday night. Interesting all these odd events happening today, it makes me wonder what we're not focusing on... Could it be the news about Israel's plans to use nuclear weapons against Iran?

Actually (and referring to mythatsabigprobe's post as well) that could be even better. Events get underway today (Monday) that really screw things up state-side. Situation worsens tomorrow (Tuesday). Wednesday, Bush's speech has two days worth of big stuff to build off of, instead of just a strange smell in NYC.

Possible, at least.

thanks, my bad

wednesday, not today for the bush speech... still I'm very wary about all the current events happening leading up to the Iraq plan.

More interesting happenings:
Chemical Cloud Moving Toward Houston

Now we have two incidents in the Gulf Coast area (roughly) of Texas.

One in NYC.

One in Miami today, following close on the heels of a rather interesting event yesterday.

To top it off, a fairly serious threat of nuclear conflict between Israel and Iran.

All happening within days of a pending speech by Bush on Iraq policy.

Now with the chemical cloud heading for Houston, who knows... Insane that today is so active!

Don't see the tie in with the whole Iran thing...

Just speculation but they told bush he needs reasons to get another "blank check". Now what would need to happen to get the funds? hmmm.....

READ THIS!!

January 8, 2007 -- The environmental "surge" you're not hearing anything about.

According to U.S. maritime industry sources, tanker captains are reporting an increase in onboard alarms from hazard sensors designed to detect hydrocarbon gas leaks and, specifically, methane leaks. However, the leaks are not emanating from cargo holds or pump rooms but from continental shelves venting increasing amounts of trapped methane into the atmosphere. With rising ocean temperatures, methane is increasingly escaping from deep ocean floors. Methane is also 21 more times capable of trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

In fact, one of the major sources for increased methane venting is the Hudson Submarine Canyon, which extends 400 miles into the Atlantic from the New York-New Jersey harbor. Another location experiencing increased venting is the Santa Barbara Channel on the California coast.[/exe]

From this dude.
