The science of Ballistics is far from perfect....

I too have been witness to the strange things a bullet can do.. I have personally seen a 1/4 inch piece of Plywood, 1/4!!!, completely stop a free moving 9mm Hollow point fired from less than 15 yards... Strange? yes, but it does happen..

I have no "Rap" on the figure he saw, no dog in the fight so to speak, but the propensity for ATS members to "Jump on" a member that proclaims themselves a member of the "establishment" ie. a cop, is well documented...

Boaz, hang in there, this is a great site and gets better when some of the more prevalent members get to know you... There were some very interesting responses to your post that you can address and just ignore the "Nay-Sayers."

The ghost on flight 401 was or "is" Don Reppo, first officer of the Easternt L1011 crash on the everglades, he was constantly seen on the plane wearing a full uniform...

Ok - let me make sure I have this straight - you have a very interesting 'story' to tell - but nothing - and I do mean NOTHING - that would give us any reason to believe it isn't a complete fabrication, right? You simply want us to believe you because as you said - your word is your bond.

I want to give you every opportunity to produce something - ANYTHING - other than your story. Remember the whole ATS - DENY IGNORANCE thing?

I hope you understand this from a reader's perspective - a reader who has seen quite a few con men and charlatans come and go - if we, as a community, do not hold people accountable who come here and claim these wild stories - we've become nothing more than another run-of-the-mill internet forum for every whack job and weirdo out there.

Surely you, as a respected member of your law enforcement community, can understand this, right?

Always,
Shawnna

Very impressive story I totally understand that this sort of thing can happen. Don't feel isolated or odd for having this happen to you. If anything you were at the right place at the right time. Good work

Your incident is quite astonishing, although there are completely logical explainations for what might have happened, the most logical being that this man was on '___'. I used to be a criminal justice major and have seen some pretty horrific things in the field. In this one particular incident I was called out to a scene where a man on '___' shot himself multiple times in the head and was still walking about. There was brain matter everywhere and at least 40% of his head was gone, skull and all. Needless to say I'm no longer a criminal justice major.

On the other hand I'm not completely skeptical about the possiblity of the existance of supernatural beings, or ghosts, or any kind of paranormal activity for that matter. It's a possibility the man that you had shot was indeed a ghost, but did he appear to you in a solid form like a real person? Or did he appear hazy?

boaz, you have to understand that every week here there are dozens of people who show up with some mystical story that is completely made up. They are looking for attention.

And understand that I have absolutely no desire to know anything about you personally. In fact I stopped reading after "I am a Deputy...". I don't want to have any preconceived notions about you or your story or your credentials.

All I want to see is for you to verify this w/ a moderator. They are unbiased, trustworthy, and will not divulge anything to the masses here at ATS. then let the mod come on in and say "This guy is for real". From there, I think everyone would be satisfied and be willing to help look into your situation. We are just making sure that you are for real.

"Deny Ignorance" does not mean "Take Everything At Face Value".

Do you mean that everyone who posts their experience here requires to be verified by a moderator ?

I wasn't aware of that.

Is there a symbol or other identifying mark on posts to signify that a poster has been verified by a moderator?

What does the symbol look like please?

I'd like to know what to look for within posts.

Meanwhile, lacking such identification of verification, I'll continue to make my own judgements regarding posters in these forums.

And I regard the OP's experience as genuinely reported.

As such, I've responded to his post in this spirit.

Personally, I've seen a number of posts in these forums that I regard as bogus, yet they (and their authors) have not been subjected to anywhere near the amount of trolling, psuedo-scepticism and downright ridicule and dismissal as has the OP here.

Why is that?

I honestly think it should be done. Dedicate a staffer to do exactly that.

I like ATS, I was a lurker for a couple years before registering a year ago. I have seen an increase in people claiming this, or claiming that. And they all get indignant if you ask them to get w/ a Mod and verify it. They get the "How dare you! My word is bond! Take it or leave it" attitude and then their posts peter off and they go away.

I'd like to see a "Verifications Administrator" here on ATS. Someone above board and trustworthy. It'll cut down on the "Lookie here, I can teach you how to talk to aliens" BS posts.

Well, I do believe in ghosts and I have no reason to doubt this poster's account; if however, some people do feel they have reason to doubt then by all means ignore this thread. Otherwise how about ceasing the attacks on his honesty.

Sounds to be like you shot at a ghost and I imagine you aren't the first to have done so and likely wo n't be the last. You know you aren't imagining things since your partner saw it too as did the lady. There are things in this world that we aren't meant to understand and this may be one of them. Hang in there hopefully the investigation will be over soon and you will be back on the job. Take care.

No one is attacking his honesty, we're suspending judgment of honesty pending independent verification. Denying ignorance, if you will. I take no one on the internet at face value- you can't judge their facial expressions, you can't hear the tome and timbre of their voice, & you can't see their mannerisms and body movements. You cannot fully observe the person an evaluate the validity of what they claim like you can in person.

So, instead of being a sucker and believing every little typewritten word, I think we ALL should ask questions, pertinent ones, and ask that they be verified.

I do indeed understand your point but I as a member of this forum am not here for the same reasons you are keep that in mind.I would also ask you to think about this and its a shocker so be sure to be seated before you read this ..........some people do not like police officers ...for various reasons so no matter how you treat them you are the bad guy.

Boaz, I think you've hit the nail on the head.

I (and no doubt numerous others who've read this thread) have been wondering why you've been subjected to so much blatant trolling.

But you're right. You're a police officer. You put your life on the line daily in the interests of those who are only brave behind egocentric avatars and anonymous posting-IDs.

You're right again when you remind self-righteous, self-styled 'sceptics' that you have NOT, at any time, sought their 'judgement'

After all, what possible 'qualifications' do they possess --- even if you had sought their 'judgement' ?

I'm sure there are many who, like me, appreciate your independence of mind, perspective, level-headedness and calm refusal to be drawn into other's mind-games; all evidence of someone well suited to a very difficult, demanding profession.

I'm not calling you a fraud, I'm asking that before we take our time to help you that you verify a fact or two with an independent moderator.

Too many of us have taken our time to help people who turn out to be complete and utter frauds.

If you can't, or won't, don't expect people to come flocking to you. You want one of two people to give a suggestion or two? Fine, continue on this same course. Want ATS to get behind you and help as much as they can? Great, verify this w/ a Mod and he can post here.

You asked for help.
We asked for verification.
Don't get indignant because we ask for fact checking.
You're the one who wants something here, be prepared to back it up.

If the mods have to verify everyone's stories, they wouldn't have time to do their jobs. Cut the guy some slack. If it's a hoax, it will surface eventually. In the mean time, treat his story with the same respect you would like yours to be treated with.

Not everyone spells well or has perfect grammar, etc. . . This is why many professionals hire secretaries to do the paperwork for them.

It is an interesting story. The guy just wants someone to tell him what he saw. K?

I think that if the mods asked people for verification, they'd have plenty of time to do it. The fakers and snake oil salesmen would avoid this place like the plague and stop making posts. That would leave the people with the real stories, stuff we can really sink our teeth into.

I welcome true life stories, as should we all. However, this welcoming should be tempered with reason, and we should always dig for the facts and start by asking for verification.

I should start off saying i have worked in law enfocement for 10 yrs. and never used my weapon. On this one night we where called to a older ladies house because she told dispatch a man was in her house and would not leave .After meeting with the other officer he stated he had been to her house about three times in one week for this same type of call.So i figured it was a public relations call and we would search the house and check her property and then go get dinner, boy was i wrong we arrived and she came out of the residence and said he is in the room first door on your left myself and the other officer decided ok well play along .We entered the house and i drew my glock .40 and opened the door to the room as it opened i observed a man standing in the center of the room , i began giving him orders to lie down on the floor then all of a sudden he began moving to us he had an object in his so i gave him a final order to stop or i would shoot but he kept coming.I fired 3 rounds at about seven feet so i know he was hit in the chest but he kept coming,he past right through both of us and when i turned he was gone.now here is the really stupid part i found ALL three bullets in the drywall behind where he was standing.I dont think ghosts are real but i would like your input , I was placed on admin. leave until the investigation is over it was an accidental discharge ......i mean who was i going to tell and tell the what i shot a ghost sheeesh any adive would be helpful

You seem angry? so you want someone to make sure all the stories on ats are true? man most of them are not so most of this stuff would have to be deleted relax read and decide for yourself.if all this time spent on the if in my situation was real you would have given info on what you know and then all of a sudden you learned it was not real what have you lost .you seem like you have some good ideas why not use those to help people ?

I'd rather have people back up their claims. Call me crazy, but I think that people come in here asking for assistance should not get indignant when asked to verify their situation with a moderator.
