I used to suffer from a night terror, so I left her

But yeah seriously, an old gf had a history of seeing things (mostly ants etc), and she used to mumble alot in her sleep, usually cute stuff, giggling, or things like "No, I don't want that". Anyway, one night in particular she was giggling herself silly, then apparently woke up, but she might have been sleep walking of sorts. Anyway, I ask her if she was having fun, she at first acted confused, I asked again, she told me she didn't know what i was talking about and why was a lieing to her. Skip to a few moments later and we are both out in the lougeroom, and she is screaming and yelling, accusing me of lying to her, trying to hurt her & everything else under the sun, she was almost psychotic, throwing things around, kicking n hitting things, hitting me etc etc.. I ended up having to bear hug her to pin her down till she cooled down (plus I was afraid she'd go for a knife or hurt herself
)

I tried on a few ocassions to try and talk it through with her, get her to see a shrink etc but she was convinced there was nothing wrong with her and that I was the bad one / the one at fault. So after 14months of that I left her because it was starting to have a real negative affect on my own mental health. Night terrors (in this case they were more happy dreams untill she apparently woke up :S) can cause alot of problems if not taken under control.

I had night terrors/ terrormares for 12 years and now my son who is five has them also. I never understood what fear I had put my family through with these mares until my son had his first. It was freaky as hell. I'll never forget just like my mother never will.

I was kind of wondering why the night terrors thing would be in the paranormal section. It's scary, but probably more medical than paranormal. If you want to throw a paranormal twist to it, though, you could do it like this:

Some who experience night terrors experience paralysis during or after the night terror, even though they might not remember the dream itself. They also might feel as if something is on their chests, restricting their breathing with it's weight. If this is the case, you might have an incubus or succubus on your hands! er...chest. These are two separate entities, one is a famle apparition of sorts, the other I believe is a male apparition. Since the middle ages there have been cases of these horrid and usually ugly ghosts terrifying people in their sleep.

I suppose it's not too relevant to night terrors, but maybe it's a step in the right direction.

Everyone looking at this thread of messages should research on psychic vampires just as an offbeat possibilty. It Isn't that i neccasarily believe in such thing but my mother had at one time told me that i was inclined to be a witch/warlock. Wether or not its true i have had the odd night terror,waking in around 2 or 3 in the morning with the feeling of a presence in my apartment when i was in a bachelor pad above a bar(great place for many people). I would wake paralyzed with apprehension of my room and an extremely horrid terror. after a minute or two of being absolutely terrofied i would have this feeling that something was pushing on my chest and the distinct visual that someone was right beside me or on my chest pushing down. Just recently i happened to be walking down the street handing out resumes and decided to hand one in at a magic shop called mystic karma, I ended up sitting down and reading a few books. One of them happened to be about vampires. As it turns out every detail i recounted about my night terrors coincided with the features of a vampiric attack. when i walked outside and on my way home i also noticed that it was a full moon or as the shop keeper called it a waxing moon, Which also happens to be mystically linked with witches and warlocks. Or lunatics lol

Ive just done a search on night terrors so please accept my apologies in bringing up such an old thread.

My sister has experienced these for as long as she can remember, the most recent (this week)resulting in a HUGE bruise on her knee which was from hitting the bed frame on hwe way to 'save' the person who's hand was caught in the door frame-she said there was a lot of blood and gore about.

It used to be once a month or so and has resulted in damaged fixtures etc. but is now occurring weekly

Whilst I'm a sleep walker/talker I've never experienced (thank god) anything like this.

Any suggestions gratefully received

That happens to me, and when I'm sleeping in the same room as my boyfriend it freaks him out too. I kick, scream, shout, cry in my sleep. He doesn't usually tell me what I say in my sleep, but when I wake up I always feel really insecure and unsafe. Usually he wakes me up, or my mom wakes me up when I'm home, and then I'm okay but shaken.

When I'm alone, I wake up in a sweat and crying, but then I realize I'm okay and go back to sleep.

Also, I often wake up with bruises. My suggestion would be to just pad the bed and surrounding area with pillows and blankets. I sleep with my bed against the wall on two sides, in a corner, with about 7 pillows and 4 blankets. It helps.
