My gal, says that she doesn't remember much of her childhood, before 8-9 years old ? I asked about abuse when she was a child, she assured me there was none... so I ruled that out... hmmm interesting.

I use to have night terrors really bad and along with that body memories. My husband was at the recieving end of my blows. After being in treatment and dealing with some of the most horrific eposides did I actaully stop the night terrors. So before you rule out child abuse it might be helpful to remember that she does not remember part of her child hood. In my family there was a lot of abuse, even though my sister was older, she did not remember a thing, and I have never forgotten. My night terrors came from relieving my abuse over and over again, and fighting back in a way that I could not have done at the time.

Sometimes it's not physical abuse, but rather emotional abuse (family cold, not accepting of the child, child always feeling like an outsider.) And sometimes it's tied to clinical (biological) depression.

Hi All. I'm the one elevatedone has been speaking about. I've not had any Night terrors for a few weeks now.

They come and go and try as I might I have not been able to figure out what triggers them. I often thought it could be lack of sleep, eating different foods right before bed or something along those lines.

More than one of you commented on using sleeping pills. I recently took some pain relivers w/sleep aid and
I definitely did not have any Terrors. Makes me groggy in the mornings though.

On a side note....I've mentioned to my friends that if my Night Terrors are that bad would I really WANT to know what's happening. Maybe my subconscious has a better time dealing with whatever it is!!

I have sleep paralysis which is the originality of the night terrors. I will be sleeping then become fully conscious and have a person, fully visible standing over me. I cannot move but I can sit there and stare at this person as long as I would like to as long as I wasnt afraid. To bad I am always afraid.

The image over me is a little girl with long brown hair wearing a white gown similiar to the ones in the early 40's.

One time I was by a friends house and this had happened except I seen her coming up from the stairs in my friends house. I was laying with my arm extended past my head and the little girl walked right up and tried to pull me downstairs. I was fully awake , but paralyzed physically. I woke up and found marks on my arms that looked as if someone had grabbed me there.

Alot of the time this girl comes behind me and stands behind me and I will quickly turn around and she will be there. Then I wake up again. Its really strange how to explain all of it, but the scary thing is the feeling I get when she is around.

I hadn't heard of adults experiencing night terrors but my son had about a year long period where he would have one a week, sometimes two. The thing is, when he opened his eyes, he was still actually asleep and thus difficult to console. His ped assured us its a common occurance in many small children and to just lie beside him and speak calm and gentle to him. After a few minutes, he'd calm down and fall back to a restful sleep. Before we were aware of what was happening, trying to wake him would cause him to continue the episodes for hours so its best to try to calm the person without attemting to wake them.

From my experience with my then 3 year old, its impossible to fully wake the person experiencing them up. They may look awake but usually, they can't remember even being awake or anything you have said to them. My son eventually went through it and now sleeps soundly.

That's exactly what I tell my boyfriend to do when I have one. Basically talk me down until I appear relaxed. (My episodes don't usually last long, at least that's what he tells me.) I tell him to keep in mind that I don't know what I'm doing nor will I remember.

My name is Kim I have a 28 year old husband with violent night terrors. WE ahve been married over three years and he has had them at least since then. He looks awake but is not and does not usually remember anything about them. More often than not he awakes screaming, petrified like a child jumps out of bed or on the bed. Those I am able to coax him to lie back down somehow, even though it looks like he looks right through me. I am able to pretty much prevent him from hurting himself I wake up usually as soon as he yells and have prevented him from walking out of the house in the nude or breaking something. My concern for the past year has been they are now violent towards me on occasion. When these happen I am not usually aware he is having a night terror until I wake up because I can not breathe because he is choking me or I wake up to him squeezing me really tight or trying to take my arm off. I wake up panicked because he is either hurting me or I can not breathe and I physically have to defend myself until I can get him to wake up which has been taking longer and longer. We come to the current experience that happened this morning and I woke up to his arm around my neck and the other around my chest and he was holding on really hard and hurting me. The more I struggled the tighter he held. I swear he is much stronger during these periods than he is when he is awake. I couldnt talk loud enough to wake him up because I did not have much air left. Finally I relaxed a little and so did he. I then told him if he didnt let go of me I was going to call 911. After a minute he woke up panicked and let go of me right away and started crying because he realized what had just happened and was scared he had hurt me. Aside from being really sore I am fine. We discussed what had happened and he does not remember much other than he was trying to pull me away from certain death and felt extreme fear and danger. I asked him what finally woke him up and he said that in what he now realizes was the night terror, when I said about the phone being near and calling 911 he looked around and did not see a phone so it was at that minute he woke up. I said jokingly to him well the next time you are trying to save me from certain danger, try not to choke me in the process. He was doing so good he was down to about 1 night terror a week and they were mild ones and now this happened. It has been four months since he has started seeing a psychologist and since he has physically hurt me from these. It is really weird, I can talk to him during them and sometimes he will listen but he never responds to me specifically, as if he doesnt realize who I am and may only subconsciously be hearing me. Now he has to sleep on the couch until we figure more out so I do not end up dead or either of us severely injured but I am afraid for him. If he is in another room I may not hear him awake and be able to protect him from hurting himself. Have any of you expoerienced this or do you have any ideas? After reading about a lady killing her husband and having no recollection during a night terror, I am kinda nervous now.

By the way, hey thinks he is being abducted by aliens and the terrors are due to this.....

Nurse, you really should get your husband to seek professional help. Those are pretty violent thigns that he is doing during the NT's.

My gal only "hit" me a couple of times, she is usually on scared that something is trying to get her. I always talk her down and we go back to sleep.

Seriously, get him some help, before something terrible happens.

this is extremely interesting some people do not even realize or remember having them. i all wayz saw seen deez dudez yea my brothas and sistas. so is it because that the spirit(being what it may) actually intered there blood blistah(got inside them) and was in control until they were able to awake. i propose this may be the difference between possesion and opression.

so for those of you who cannot remember or have no recollection, or do not recall having these night terrors

have you ever asked to receive or gave permission to a spirit of any kind to come in and dwell inside you?

one might ask to what phucin' point am i eluding or attempting to get at. if you are already occupied(yes like a toilet stall) then it is much(extremely) more difficult to you become occupied once more.
many spirits don't like to share territory(like mexicans share apartments).

maybe you should envite one in to take control of your life and then there would be no more of these pathetic fool spiritz having you grab at your spouses throat or having to slip out the back door so to speak undetected.

I believe that I have had some mild "night terrors", usually I'm trying to escape or get away from someone and can't do so, even speech is hendered... I usually wake myself once I'm able to cry out in my dream...

I think these are mild night terrors. Could also be a form of sleep paralysis ?

an oldie but a goodie here...

Lots of new members who might get something from this too...

just wanted to bring this thread back up and report that my Gal hasn't experienced any "terrors" for several months now.

I think she has cut down on the amount of soda pop consumed in the evenings and I know we've been eating more home cooked meals and less fast food.... maybe that has something to do with it...

but it's nice going to bed and not being scared SHi $&%less by screams and her jumping out of bed thinking that something is after her...

Hey, I've always believed that the quality of your spiritual experiences = the quality of what you consume.

My brother gets something similar. Although it's sometimes different. For instance one night he started screaming for our dad, then just stood up, ran into the kitchen, and smacked right into the fridge at full speed without even waking up.

Another time I was having a perfectly normal conversation with him, then I asked him what time it was. He said sarcastically, "10:00" even though it was like...4am or something. I looked at him and saw that although his eyelids were open, his eyes were rolled back into his head and all I could see was white. Scared the piss out of me! I had been holding a conversation with somebody who was dead asleep! He didn't remember the conversation when he woke up.

Another time he was talking to me in his sleep, we were having a weird conversation. It made no sense at all. So I started laughing. Well, apparently he didn't like it, and he grabbed me and threw me halfway across the room, then he...passed out or something, although he was never really awake. He didn't remember that one either. I stopped sleeping in the same room with him, because that scared me. It was almost as if he was possessed. He had almost superhuman strength, too. Scary stuff.
