Those night terrors! I know someone who had them and it seemed like they were seeing something while still awake, but it was like they were in a half-awake half-dreamin state. Probably the most harshest thing is, the terrors are bad, why can't there be good night terrors!

I had night terrors virtually the entire 10 years I worked EMS. Very vivid, very real. I learned to keep my weapons hidden, as they were the first thing I went to.
The county sent me to critical incident stress debriefings, shrinks, therapists and recommended vacations. It wasn't until I finally "retired" from service until they faded. I still have them, just not nearly as frequent.
Why did I continue running EMS if this was happening? I guess you have to be there to understand. I was addicted to the rush and the night terrors were just an unfortunate side effect.

okay guys... something has to give.

3 nights in a row, I was awakened and nearly attacked by my gal who suffers from night terrors.

first night - she jumps up out of bed and starts swinging her fists ... and asking me who is in there ?
I calm her down and get her back to bed and she goes back to sleep.

second night - she is kicking and throwing punches and saying something, but I can't make out what she is saying. I get a couple of kicks to the legs.

Third night - jumping and kicking again, and asks me, who are you ? I answer her that it's me, Jerry, she says who is with you ? I tell her no one. She says are you sure? Yes.

Then she takes her finger and pokes me right on the end of the nose and says, no snorring !

all 3 times, she went right back to sleep and the next morning, swears that she doesn't remember a thing.

I suggest setting up a video camera, you never know what you might catch on film...a pattern, a warning sign...or something much scarier...

I wish you luck

The camera is actually a good idea...or a tape recorder...

She has to be aware of the problem (often, they won't remember their actions)...

Did you try the sleeping pills yet?

Once she can see you aren't kidding, she may be more willing to go see a doctor, as there are various medications that may help stave them off....

no sleeping pills yet....

we did talk yesterday. She takes some medication for a Thyroid (sp ) problem, didn't take it for about a week and then started again...

we're thinking that maybe this is triggering the "terrors" ?

However, she did experience them before being put on this med, they just were not as frequent.

Okay guys... we're being attacked.. and she's awake !

My Gal now says that it's my fault about the night terrors.

She says they became more frequent and violent only after I joined ATS !!!!

And started sharing the "knowledge" of aliens with her.

*whisper* she's also reading over my shoulder...

I was always embarassed about mine. In fact, I have asked my girl not to tell me what I say or do during them.
I dunno, the whole thing is going on in the mind, a video camera might help, but it also might cause more problems.
I'm probably wrong here, but wanted to chip that in.

Gaz is right, sleeping pills help.

The idea of a camera may not be appealing to her, however, on "60 Minutes" they had a show on people who were in prison for the rest of their lives for killing their spouses during a "Night Terror"

There was a guy who dropped an air conditioner unit on his wife during a terror, and now he is locked up, FOREVER!

Once you get some evidence on tape, take it to a specialist who can help.

I used to have night terrors to, which also can be refered to as "incubus attacks". I will explain why they happen.....
There are to kinds of sleep, REM and NREM, Rapid Eye Movement and Non-Rapid Eye Movement, When we first go to sleep we're in NREM which means we're in a period of less that deep sleep, when the mind can't dream and about every 90 min. we enter the other sleep, REM, for about 30 min., this is when we CAN dream, the mind is PREPARED for it, and the body becomes paralyzed so we can't kick, fight, and react to the dream..... but sometimes, rarely you could have a dream in NREM, when your body or mind are NOT PREPARED for it, since in NREM you are in a light sleep, your closer to being awake, and since your body is not prepared either you can react with punches and kicks because your body is not paralyzed, And also because the mind is not prepared for it, it seems real. I used to have them are it feels absolutly real, and would scare the hell out me.... I hope this helps you elevatedone and good luck

I'm getting a lot of advise here, wanted to say thanks.

Last night was episode free.. no terrors. yeah... I slept so well that I was actually late for work today.

I'm not going to ask her to try sleeping pills or seek any help, she isn't really violent, just scared, I guess.

Believe me though, the first time she ever becomes violent towards me, then yes, would definitley seek help.
I just hope it wouldn't be too late.

For me when I had a night terror I some how trained my self to wake up out of it. As soon as it got bad I could awake from it.

I could feel a presence in the room. It was cold in my room even though it was hot outside. My windows were opem. You could feel it seething through the air. I being a Christian would command it out in Jesus name. This thing would leave, I could feel it leave extremly fast. With it the cold air would suck out the window.

These "things" I believe were demons, of the devil.

Sleeping pills aren't exactly a "drastic" step...but it will help her fall into the deep sleep better, and thus lessen the chances of it happening.

I can guarantee you, it's the first thing a doc will suggest,

Try it for a week, and I'd bet you (and she) would sleep a lot better....

I could not imagine how to train one's self to wake up out of a night terror. As far as your mind is concerned, it is real. I never felt the presence of anything nor any temperature changes, just fear; fight or flight.
