I wonder if a black woman has ever broken glass with her vocie? It's in part, the overtones that do it, and there is a physical diffrence.

Ella Fitzgerald did it on a Memorex commercial. Remember those? "Is it live or is it Memorex?"
nah, don't remember that at all.

Nope. Sorry, but I want an actual mod. Unfortunately, in this case, your word is not good enough. You just don't have the merits to debate this case because you are biased and not in a position of authority.

There's always the Complain button. And don't forget to point out your own comments to them while you're at it.

Why do you people bother at all???

I think threads like this one are as useless as a teet on a bull.

Just my educated opinion, judging from what i've seen in the past.

Amen to this for both of you. These threads do tend to end up being nothing more then a scream fest. It seems as though people don't really want to communicate
at least using manners towards one another.

With it's mouth.

Teets are for giving milk to babies that are birthed. Obviously bulls are boys and therefore do not give birth and have no need for teets. They are useless.

I dont understand why many Americans see healthcare as a cost that should be born by the individual and not by society.

I have many arguments in favour of why social healthcare is better, but I dont want this thread to go off topic so I will not state them.

Thank you all for explaining why a forum on "Race, Ethnicity and Culture" needs to be on this board.

I especially appreciate the fact that your behavior conveyed the dire need of a FSME who is well-versed in Cultural and Ethnic Studies and is sympathetic to the issues of race, culture and ethnicity.

And now, I hope that your abhorrent behavior demonstrates to those sympathetic to the creation of such a forum why we need it so badly here.

It would have been better if you guys didn't leave your posts here at all.

But, let your words serve as a reminder of the utter ignorance in regards to race, ethnicity and culture especially when discussing it on this board.

No need to feel ashamed. Keep on doing the same thing across the board so that others can see your intolerant and ridiculous behavior.

There's no need to push the complain button. Instead, it's time for all of us to watch the "serious thinkers" at work. Stay who you truly are. The rest of us will just enjoy the show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

dr. funk: thank you for taking this question and thread earnestly. I hope that a well-meaning American will be forthright to answer your questions.

Or else, other Americans will have to be ashamed that their representatives above your post have showed their true colors how they truly are. I'm sorry if that's the case.

But I've recently learned, it's best to watch from a distance.

I will wait for a decision from a mod.

I am a Super Moderator and that does not qualify as a personal attack.

Now stop derailing the thread. And leave it be with its original question.

I suggest you take your own advice, afterall you're the one who wasted at least three posts on this non-issue.

Back on topic, please everyone.

drfunk,

I know that topic has been discussed on ATS in the past, but if you've got some new insights or ideas on it, please start another thread. The worst that can happen is that they'll move it to an existing thread.

It's a good topic, always lots of people on both sides of the debate.

DG, when a person tries to speak another language, of course its going to sound stupid. Thats because the person's way of speaking is'nt acustomed to the sounds some letters require to be prounounced correctly, like the RRRRRRRRR rolling of the tounge on top of ur gum to make that sound in Spanish.

But you already knew that

Let me back what i said up. Ok im an immigrant (don't get me deported im legal) I was born in Poland,
I've lived there for 7 years, then moved to the United States with my parents, in hopes of a better future. I lived in New York for about 8 years. I gew up in a ghetto, haha. There i acquired the "street" talk and the perfect pronouciation of english words. 2 years ago, i moved down to the south, South Carolina to be exact. The difference was and STILL is unbeliavable. Compared to the city life living in the "country" is very very lonely. I miss those at least 5 daily police sirens and all that noise in the streets i used to hear. Anyway back to my point when i went to school in SC people at first ecounter could tell i was from NY, because of the way i talk. Never the less i always talk my native tounge at home and never forgot it, still can speak perfect Polish. 2 years after living in the south, i adpated more to the southern way of speaking, and people now take me in as homegrown. So when it comes to languages and pronouciations it only takes time to get it right, then you'll be invisable among the crowd.

Since this is the thread to ask this question:
I grew up in pretty crappy conditions, most of my life. I have a somewhat gloom outlooks on life, so to speak. So to you native born Americans, who grew up in a REAL house worth over 200 thousand, what is it like? What are you worries? Why do you talk about pointless things everytime i see you? Why are you better then me just because you were born and lived under better conditions? What is it like, to live the American dream, whatever your perception of it.
Thanks!

Your welcome to ask me any questions.

Well, we of the Dominant Culture sit around the pool in our Gated Communities and think of ways to Exploit the hired help, which are all minorities except for the French Maid that makes my bed. Then, after dinner, we use our American Express Black Cards to jet to Madasgar to purchase overpriced trinkets that are intended to show that we are Racially and Culturally sensitive and aware.

We never think. We have even stopped buying books and now rely solely on our computers for anything the NWO tells us we need to know.

Why? How do you spend your time?

sympthons_WDF,

Thank you very much for your question. Being a person of color, I have a different perception of the American Dream than most might. I believe that only a certain amount of people can attain it if the "elites" let them do it. In fact, I sadly believe that the American Dream is not obtainable by everyone. There are too many circumstances related to class and race to let it happen.

Those that talk about meaningless things in America are people who have not been exposed culturally the diversity that the United States has to offer. Unfortunately, their lack of exposure affords them the tunnel vision to put down now only the people of color in the country; but newly arrived immigrants too.

It is their way to keep the masses down while they continue to have all the privileges and make the money that the economy offers.

The elite especially do not like it if others make money enough to be in their world. They call them the nouveau riche, or the "new rich". In this, the old money means that the "new rich" do not have the "pedigree" or the social standing to be a part of their world. And sometimes, the "new rich" have a way of reminding those in old money where they came from and would most likely want to forget.

I hope that answers your question. And thank you very much for being earnest about the thread, sharing your story and asking questions. We need more people like you to participate in this thread.

Sympthons,

Really? FYI i'm a Cuban expatriate...i know funny talk. I was speaking in the first person since i know all about it. Its a misconception that we are loud, i was just tring to bring that up.

Ceci: I have to tell you this. The person that made a lasting impression in my life, the person i love dearly and the most, the person whom i know is now my guardian angel is a black woman who used to work for my family when i was little.
God bless her soul, she was so good to me, to this day i often think about her and feel her around me all the time. Another thing- I like African American people and get along well with them... Anyway, when i think about this lady, my whole being lights up and i have a smile on my face for the entire day. She definatly touched my life and has remained with me forever.

Not on topic, but i wanted to share that with you.

All kidding aside, the middle class American that you describe is just an average person, and most probably resents the fact that anyone thinks they feel special. They have the same worries and concerns as anyone else, monetary things aside. And nobody here thinks they are better than anyone else; it is extremely rare that anyone brags about money, except if they happen to win the lottery. Some put on airs about their "exclusive" education, but that only shows that there are some things that can't be taught.

And nobody thinks they are any better than anyone else. Except if you count "more sensitive" and "culturally aware". Some people think they have they market cornered on that.

I really got a chuckle out of this "Why do you talk about pointless things everytime i see you?" Can you give some examples?

And believe me, there is no "elite" class that decides whether you attain the American Dream. How in the world could they, since only you know what the American Dream means to you? The idea is the same as saying "The MAN is holding me back."

And the old, outdated "nouveau riche" bromide is another laugher. Bill Gates is "nouveau riche" So were the Beatles. Do you think they care what old money thinks of them? I doubt it.

Thank you, DG, for sharing that with me. That was very nice. There are a lot of people in my life that also when I think about them, I smile as well.

As for the "nouveau riche" and the MAN: They are still alive and well. After all, ask yourself, who owns the major Fortune 500 Businesses in America?

And who are among the poor in America?

And when you think of the nouveau riche, there are always stories of those social climbers that "just don't get in". After all, not all of us can be like the Astors--who are still trying to deal with their elderly relative who is over one hundred now. That family was related to the Mrs. Caroline Astor, who would only deal with the 400 of New York during the Gilded Age at the turn of the 20th Century.

Old money is alive and well. They deal with a select group. They just won't meet with anyone.

And they don't meet with lottery winners, people who have instantly made successes of themselves and not even the richest of people of color.

They meet with their own. I'd like to see the nouveau riche try.

But there are always surprises. Poor Paris Hilton had to wait before she was allowed entrance into a club. That was big news on Saturday. But, would you consider the Hiltons as high as the Rockefellers and the Astors?

The Rockefellers, Astors, and the DuPonts are The MAN...if you think about it.

And yes, when it comes to access, money and power, they care quite a deal. Not all the billions in the world will allow you entrance into their world. It is quite select. They even disciminate against their own. That's why they are who they are.

The average American, those with 401K's and pension funds.

And who are among the poor in America?

It crosses all racial and ethnic bounds.

Social climbers. A waste of oxygen. Not even worth discussing.

They now come to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet looking for ways to invest their dwindling money supply. So who's laughing now?

Well, jsobecky,

That's what I mean when the "old money" is an equal opportunity discriminator and exploiter. They are so high-brow, they treat their own worse than dogs and the hired help.

And Bill Gates? They can only use him as much as they can and then throw him out like yesterday's trash. They don't forget Bill Gates' "humble roots". Money doesn't even make them forget that.

They are part of their own little world where no one need apply. Unfortunately, no one can break into that world unless they have the right pedigree. And if they don't, they throw you out.

It only proves that even America is a society that has its own sort of royalty in which the peasants are blocked from even shining their shoes.

No wonder Bill Gates has turned to philanthropy.

I guess it isn't such a funny matter when there is a class of people in this country that even treat their pets better than they treat you. Being marginalized isn't as laughable as it seems, is it?

Go ahead. Laugh it off now and then cry quietly later.

interesting , knowing quite a few "real" italians (i mean italians born and raised in italy)mainly from the north of the country.
very often i get very hefty remarks about how there's a huge difference between north and south ( there are even separatist political party's) and indeed (some) northeners would joke about southern italians being north africans.Looking back in history , it is true that sicily , for example , has been home to arabs during quite some time.
The "image" of the dark haired, olive skin italian is quite wrong though, i've seen more tall blue eyed people in northern italy than in my own country (again history , lombardsand before that, cisalpine gaul inhabited by well yes ....gauls ).
When it comes to looks Italy is very "mixed" ( nationally seen).
