Having just had my ears hammered - NO ADS WITH SOUND, thanks ATS.

Agreed. Sounds ads are putting me off coming here completely.

That freaking predators ad is the worst offender and the stop button on it's panel doesn't even work so only choice is not to visit

Still there and sound still won't turn off. Beyond irritating. Might as well just spam pop ups too while you're at it.

I was being sarcastic, you didn't have to go and actually do it. ATS has officially jumped the shark. Adios.

Yeah I cant stand that ad, it wouldnt be so bad if the mute or stop button actually worked for more than about 3 mins, no matter what I try it just blasts out again, its on the firehose too which is a real pain.

Please, no more sound ads. They're truly obnoxious.

I just got a "Congratulations! You won!" announcement along with seizure-inducing visual (rapid-fire magenta and white flashing) banner saying "This is not a joke. You are the 100,000 visitor Click Here *details apply.

Now c'mon, how can you also be the winner? I got the same message, probably about 5 minutes before you........LOL!

Not only are ads like that obnoxious for the reasons you mentioned, but they are also scams!

Ooh, maybe it's the real deal and I only got notification because you turned it down

Or, maybe it's a scam. I know what I think is more likely

I'm still getting this one, though now it's switched from being a top banner to being a side banner

Before the 4th of July there was an add for HAMBURG FIREWORKS on the top of the main page and other pages. It was bright red and blue... this was annoying but was not my issue with it.

The thing was, if your mouse got anywhere near the ad, it would stretch over half the screen. It was so annoying as it wouldn't retract right away and would linger for a few seconds. Almost every time I would get on ATS it would get me. I wish I took a screen shot but I didn't even know this thread was here.

I don't mind the ads, and I can mute the loud ones..... ads just need to stay in their designated space. I am sure ATS doesn't intend for half the screen to be covered with an intrusive ad. I am pretty sure that you only sell the portions of the page that other ads stay in.

"You will be taken to ATS after this ad completes?" Isn't this excessive?

I'm seeing , top right of my ATS page, the following message:

15:46 - Tuesday
14 September 2010 -(right time and date for me)
You've got 1 Message
Open Message Now -(hyperlinked)

As the boards had been recently updated, I naturally thought this was advising me of a forum message and clicked on it.
It opened a page promoting laptops.

I object to being fooled in this manner, and if this ad continues to be displayed, I will stop using this forum.

Yes, ads are a necessary evil. But fooling your members is not.

The "the event" ad has a mouseover placed right over the members tools button that brings up a nearly fullscreen video. To get to the button I have to move my mouse from the bottom of the screen instead of from the top. If I move the mouse from the top, I get the following.

Fullscreen ads are bad enough. Mouseover events are worse. But mouseover fullscreen ads that interfere with site navigation are awful.

Yeah, its one thing to show ads, which I think most people dont mind.

Its another when they interfere with the functionality of a website. That " Event" ad angered me beyond belief, there was no mute button, and the only tab available was " log out". So thats what I did.

This one is very annoying...
It's an in your face type of ad, it's just as annoying as those anti virus scripts too!

"Fantastic, no joke, you are our 1000, 000 visitor."

Are we really scraping the bottom of this barrel ?.....do we really, actually expect to be taken seriously ?

Money, money, money..........sad, a shame....but, unfortunately, expected !

I agree some ads are annoying but I guess its the price we pay for the net. I use ear phones and only put them on for vids and music so I don't hear the buzzing you guys are talking about. I get that Prize Winning ad everyday on Yahoo, its the only ad that is so loud I can hear it thru my earphones without wearing them.

Yup, it's just such a shame when the websites dont care enough to be more picky with who they let advertise, how the adverts looks and more importantly how 'truthful' the advert is. If you own a website you are in a position to self regulate and it is then fair to judge the 'quality' of the owners vision and credibility by what they allow on their (creation) website.

Personally speaking, i'd rather earn less money but have more self respect.

They do care, they do self-regulate, and that's why this thread exists.

Web ads are generally distributed in mass through third parties. It's unlikely that ATS has any direct contact with the majority of its advertisers. Most likely they've subscribed to some service like google adsense, and ATS only chooses broad categories of types of ads, which are then delivered through an automated process.

Yes, ATS can filter individual ads that create problems, but they don't know about problem ads until they've already been received and somebody complains about them.

Which is again, why this thread exists. So we can report problemn ads to be added to the filter.
