I sometimes look in the mirror and i dont "see" myself I see another person looking back at me, its my reflection but it just feels as if theres someone else inside. And i get a feeling of a viking (dont have a clue why)!
It only happens now and again, but its a little scary when it does. Anyone have any ideas about this?

No, its not like that.
Think of a viking right now, thats what it feels like, but more intense.
No actual image forms in my mind if you know what i mean.
You might say how do i know its a viking if i cant see anything, i dont know the answer to this, but somehow i KNOW.

I get a similar thing when I look in a mirror, if my eyes meet my reflection's eyes. I haven't looked my reflection in the face in almost 6 years, because it gives me a very uneasy feeling, and I've never known why.

Hey Kalistenics, I get the exact same thing...except without the viking. It started off that I was looking in the mirror thinking "you know Kerry, the person behind those eyes in the mirror is actually you." OK that makes no sense but I think the reason you sometimes get a shock is because you're so used to being yourself and not actually considering yourself as another person...one like all the rest you encounter. With me the shock comes from the sudden realisation of what I must look like to other people - like some kind of independent agent so that it's almost like I see another person in myself.

I used to hate getting that feeling and avoid thinking about it when I looked in the mirror but now I sometimes make it happen (I think if anyone looks at themselves long enough it'll definitely come to them - it seems to strong a feeling to not be a universal one) because it's almost like awakening from a sleep - one where you're just being without realising what that actually means from a bigger perspective.

Right so I mean, the fact that you've got a viking in yours doesn't really fit in so perhaps I'm talking about a different thing here...but then again, you could be seeing yourself as other people do and also tapping into something you used to be in a past life...if you believe in all that. Hell, I'll just shut up now I think - my limit is my own experience I guess.

But with me, it's an active thing... I personally hate mirrors, but sometimes preform "mirror magic".

People tell me that the image changes because my eyes are getting tired/ readjusting... whatever. But I know what I see, and it isn't because of fatigue; especially when the background image remains the same.

I've always felt that in regards to this manner, the "double" image seen in the mirror is your true self/ inner being... it is only when doing "mirror magic" that the image is a reflection/ image of something else.

By the way, my "true image" is difficult to explain... imagine smearing a photocopy of yourself, so you can still kind of see details, but they are blurred together... now overlay a dark shadow over the image.

It is a disheartening thing to see... that's why I don't have mirrors in my bedroom, why I don't even glance at a mirror at night or darkened conditions. But what's even more disturbing is when you see these images on reflective surfaces like glass...

Does anyone else get really hot inside when they look in the mirror. I hate to even look in the mirror because the person looking back is so sexy that I have to go take care of bussiness. If you know what I mean.

I just hate it when the mirror melts into this flaming insect thing with bat wings, and tells you to kill your parents, light the place on fire, and dance around peeing kerosene.

anyone else deal with this on a daily basis?
sheesh.

Those were some strange posts from everyone. Or maybe normal posts and mine is strange I don't know for sure. I guess I'm going to be the wacko here cause I feel the opposite from the rest of you. For many years now I would occasionally sit/stand close to a mirror (1-2 feet away) stare into my reflection (eyes) and allow time for some kind of change in my state of being. Now that I really think about it I guess maybe what is happening is like an "ego" shift or temporary "selflessness" state of mind. My reflection almost becomes more than my reflection and becomes "Me, or My Ego-Self". That leaves the other me (non-reflection me) unidentified somehow or selfless and able to interact with "Reflection Me" from a different perspective. Reflection me has a much more defined and separate "state of being" than my mind. However the smallest gesture made, or idea, and even spoken word is understood by "both me's" on all levels.

I'll often slowly start speaking to "myself" (obviously) but without really thinking about what to say. Just letting words kinda flow out like "automatic writing" or something. It's almost like a weird state of hypnosis I guess and is very hard to explain the feeling. I'm guessing buddhists would probably identify best since meditation to lose "ego-self identities" seems very similar in nature now that I think about it. Any long practicing buddhist's here that can validate that maybe???

I guess at first it was a bit strange or disturbing to me, but I've done it for so long now it's more curious and fun to me. I think of it as very healthy mentally and very helpful actually, or atleast just interesting on a psychological/metaphysical level. What do you people think??? (I almost hate to ask that question, while at the same time I can't wait to hear comments if there are any.) If you think I'm in serious need of therapy you may be right, I really don't know, but unless you fully understand the "selflessness state of being" I'm talking about you just won't know how interesting it is.

Comments??
