President Bush to Militarize Border?

With sagging poll numbers, it is speculated that President Bush will foreword a plan this week that includes provisions for the use of National Guard troops. While not without support, there are many in Washington concerned with the status of the U.S. National Guard. Many of these troops have been assigned multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.



The Bush administration made a bold power play this Sunday. Using leaks by a White House insider, the Bush White House made an apparent move to control the on-going debate on illegal immigration. The Bush administration is desperate to improve it's weakening public support numbers. The President is expected to layout his plan for border security during his Monday evening address, 20:00 EST (08:00pm).

His proposal is expected to encounter heavy opposition from Democrats. The DNC already smells blood in the water as the Presidents approval numbers hit all-time lows. With the upcoming mid-term elections in November, the Republican Party is desperate to regain their political base.

This proposal will undoubtedly affect the United States relationship with Mexico. President Vicente Fox has spared no words in his opposition to any heavy handed tactics by the U.S. to secure their border.

When President Bush actually starts to penalize the companys that hire illegal aliens; I'll believe he is serious about border security. Other wise this is just a transparent attempt to stop his plummeting poll numbers.

He's a FRIGGIN IDIOT! I can't believe he would even consider sending NATIONAL GUARD to a full-time duty of patrolling the border. THESE PEOPLE HAVE JOBS

Let's take working Americans out of their jobs and send them down to the border - financially strapping them, their families and their employers - to make sure Mexicans who are willing to do lower-paying jobs that most Americans DON'T WANT IN THE FIRST PLACE...don't get any of the pie!

It seems to me that it is a better use of our national guard to "GUARD OUR NATIONS BORDERS" then to fight in a war in Iraq.
Remember, it is the federal gov's job to control our national borders.
It would be the smartest move george has made since coming into officce-IMO!

It is about time that someone stops the flood of illegals invading this country.

Remember, every illegal that comes here is a spit in the face of every LEGAL alien that has come to this great country.

What do they think makes them better than everyone else that they don't have to follow the laws of this nation.

I FULLY agree, employers of illegals should face "federal" charges and manditory jail time for every count.

Also we need to change the law that illegals that invade the us have to take their illegal children home with them. that will discourage all the pregnent illegals from trying to cross the boarder so much.

It's not hard to figure out.

Fill the press with stories of how all of a sudden illegal immegration is a national threat, rile up the population and then offer a solution...

America has a very long history of illegal immigration, nothing has changed other than the medias focus.

Yes, Mexicans pick strawberries and a lot of other migrant farming work, they do low-skill construction work, they work in meat processing plants. They do the work that a LOT of Americans DON'T WANT TO DO.

And at the same time, those Americans who think they are above working those hard-labor, low-skill, low-paying jobs WANT TO PAY CENTS FOR THEIR STRAWBERRIES. Which leads the employer to hire the lowest wage person willing to do the job he can find!

This is not national security. And what a disgusting stereotypical move that is for some one wanting to push a fear-mongering issue on an election year. Let's see - two years ago it was that all the gay marriages were going to destroy us!

Be that as it may, no nation can just open it's borders to any incursion because a few (possibly) well meaning sycophants say so. It is not only the "strawberry issue, no matter how you may want to simplify it to suit your argument.
It is the driving without a license, without insurance. The health care that I pay for out of my taxes. The not paying taxes issue is one as well.

We are a sovereign nation last time I checked and we have the right to defend our borders. The National Guard is the organization that is best suited and prepared for that duty. You may not like that, but it is what it is.

Cry for the Illegals all that you want to. They are not IMMIGRANTS, they are simple criminals. Regardless of their motivations, they break the law coming here and now want, DEMAND, that our Government recognizes them! What AUDACITY, what ARROGANCE, What a ridiculous idea.

You're going to pay for the health care either way. Because the AMERICAN strawberry pickers are not only going to demand higher wages, they are going to demand benefits. Benefits are paid by the employer--that's a good one. I believe it is we, the purchasers of whatever products that actually pay any benefits.

Yeah, that was a beauty. Like they just eat it. Guess who is going to pay the health care (ALL benefit costs) for housekeepers and migrant workers when AMERICANS (who deserve SO MUCH MORE) start working those jobs...
