OK, saw a Dr. today. She looked at me like I was speaking about the weather. No conclusions, no point...

I have another appt with a different doc this week. I'll see how that goes.

Good luck.

Thought I was getting better. Then last week had vicious headache at base of skull - eased off just before went to doc. Evolved into horrid cold symptoms, spewing gallons of gunk, sinus headaches, braindead for past week. Yuck.

The suggestion of mono might be a good track to follow. The Epstein Barr virus that causes mono can lie dormant in the body for years--it never actually leaves the body, just sits there inactive unless another triggering agent comes along and starts it up again. Hypothetically, this triggering agent could be a bacteria--which initially responds to antibiotics then doesn't seem to get better because it has reactivated the dormant virus; or another virus similar to the flu which would run its course, activate the immune system and the mono virus, have the immune system conquer the flu virus and leave the mono active and in the process of battling it.

It could be another virus that has the similar capability to stay in the body and lie dormant until triggered, I am sure there are others with such capability.

This could explain why the illness will not go away. I have had mono at least 3 times where the virus has initially made me sick and then reactivated, but I have CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia, allergies etc.

The best thing to do in this case is to try to make your immune system as healthy as possible to support the battles it must endure, get plenty of solid nutrition and as much bed rest as possible. If you try to battle through it like a trooper, sometimes it can linger into Post Viral Fatigue syndrome that can rob you of years of your life.

Do go to the doctor and get what help you can from them.
Keep the records of your doctors visits--if you have to apply for disability or long term leave later you will need them.
Keep your nutrition optimal.
Do as little as possible and rest when you can--trying to exercise when you are very ill will often make it worse, or increase the length of illness.

A lot of people will probably notice an end to most of the illnesses when the weather allows people to keep their windows open 24/7 to allow more fresh air in and the sunlight lasts longer.

I have had this for two weeks. First couple of days my whole body just hurt and didnt have 'cold' symptons. Now I cough so much that my body aches again because I simply cant stop coughing.
I have very little energy and would like it to go away now!
The healthiest one in the house is of course my bird!

Yes this is really interesting as we up here in the northeast corner of washington state got hit really hard with it. aparantley according to the doctors its the worst thing theyve seen up here. entire towns are getting it, in fact at one point half of chewelah was sicker than heck with it, antibiotics didnt really work that well. i got sick 5 weeks ago and still have a little nagging bit. i often wonder if its the work of those darn chemtrails in the air.

Here I am, and in case anyone hasn't seen me around the past week and a half its because Ive been floored. Im slightly asthmatic, and haven't been able to catch my breath, coughing fits so bad lets just say its actually making me throw up. Been taking Robetussin DM(Which is ok when pregnant) before bed, and when I wake up or change positions, it feels like my lungs are filled with fluid
and I gag and cough for a good 20 minutes before I can actually get up
I refuse to use antibiotics will see how long this sticks around. Im not running a fever but joints all hurt just the same.

Feel better my germafected comrades and get plenty of rest.

Sounds suspiciously like mycoplasmic infections - I had a particularly bad "malaria relapse" along with "glandular fever relapse" and "the flu" - health practitioner diagnosing with LISTEN technology found mycoplasma which they treated very successfully with LISTEN generated homeopathics.

I had serious liver failure and lost 15 kgs in 2 weeks - but I made full recovery in 4 weeks. Turnaround after initial treatment was in 24 hours!!

PLease follow up mycoplasma avenues if you can't shake these ailments - it can be remedied!!!

Just one question Scorpio. It sounds like you went to a homeopath. If one goes to a Primary Care physician and says, "Maybe it's mycoplasmic infection, what can we do about it?", will he have anything to offer besides a referral for counseling? Will he even know what it is?

If your Primary Care (not familiar with that term - is that like a General Practitioner in Oz?) physician can't give you a mycoplasma blood test or doesn't know what you are talking about it sounds like you need a new physician.

Not being a physician is no reason to be medically ignorant!

The question is - does the patient want a healing or a panacea?

ok iv just read this thread all the wau through and im freaked out,
im in scotland (uk) and a few months back myself and my mother was floored with flu like symptoms, i never get ill i refuse to lol,
the symptoms:
severly swollen glands on back of neck and behind ears,
sever stomach cramps, which seemed to ease with food

high tempreture,
sweating
sever headaches.
we were both badly fatigued, and could barly keep our heads up.
after the symptoms died down my 3 yr old son came down with similer symtoms, but he had sever breathing difficulties and had to be rushed to hospital and put on oxygen, the docs said it was croup, 2 of my daughters came down with it also but not as bad, they had the stomach cramps, and painful swollen glands, they all endd up with skin infections,(rashes down their faces and tiops of arms) one of them my eldest ended up with an open wound at the back of her head.

my husband caught this as well and was vomiting up lumpy stuff and blood.

all the doctors said was that it was a flu bug going around, but reading this thread im begining to doubt this.

there are many people here in my area that have had it and been floored for months even now we still get bad stomach pains, and very fatigued.

we got no anti biotics and were told to take some paracetamol and wait it out

just wanted to add as well about the coughing my mother actually broke 3 ribs because she was coughing that badly, i never broke ribs but my sides hurt like hell

Anything long term is extremely dehydrating. I have noticed that the person who I know that got it worst had severe asthma attacks for weeks while still not fully recovered. One day she was about to head out to the Dr. with an attack and I handed her 12 oz of water with a pinch of sea salts, made her wait 10 minutes and drink another 12 oz of water. It came to a screeching halt.

Always drink lots of extra fluids during an illness, dehydration makes everything more acute. (I'm sure the vitamin C in the lemonade was a boost too.)

I was sick with a bad cold for 5-6 days starting on Friday 5/12. Im 24 and live near Utica, NY. This was after going to the local clinic for a dermatology appointment. Im pretty sure thats where i got the cold from. The symptoms were mainly a fever which i did not check because the thermometer said RECTAL on it (doesnt mean it was used rectally, damnit), sinus and lung congestion. I know I had a fever because I felt much better when I took advil, TYLENOL SUCKS!!!. it doesnt take much of a fever for a 24 year old to feel like crap, 99.5 will do it. About the 4th day I went outside to mow the lawn (I had to do something) and had to take 5 breaks to regain energy. Normally I do it in one sweep except for getting water. All that lung booger swallowing had me farting like crazy!!!

Ive been taking the antibiotic Minocycline for my skin for a while now so I cant say it did or didnt help. But normally a cold is the Rhinovirus and antibiotics do nothing for a viral infection.

Well I thank God that im wasnt as sick as you others. Its lingering a bit though. I know of this guy who got bronchitis, got better and then got sick again. Id have to blame it on the weather. Its rained here every day for the last week and a half and the temperature keeps getting lower. It was about 45-50F today and in late April it was up to 70-75F.

Whatever cold or flu youve got I recomend ALOT of OJ (suppliments wont cut it), plenty of rest (including naps) and getting your daily dose of direct sunlight. Many people will go days without direct sunlight if theyre sick enough. Best of luck all those who are sick.

Hmmm. Forgot about this thread. Here's my update - I had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. IMO the paramedics saved my life - they jumped right in with the nitro after a neighbor called an ambulance.

FYF -

Does the Flu Cause Heart Attacks? It sure looks that way - a new strategy for heart attack prevention.

Medline Plus. Flu symptoms - Worsening of underlying illness, such as asthma or heart failure.

Also note: Ischemic heart disease in women often results from microvascular disease - and cannot be diagnosed using electrocardiograms, exercise stress tests, echocardiograms and angiograms.

i kinda just found this site by accident, and came accross this thread. I too, had this same 'issue' back in March. I noticed most of you are in the southern part of the country, while i had it up in PA. It started out flu-like and never seemed to get better. The 2 glands on either side of my neck, were swollen out of control and it hurt just to turn my head a little bit. I said, enough, is enough and went to the doctor. They drew blood to try to determine what it was, the blood came back with a higher bacterial count than viral count, which stomps out mono, considering its viral. They didnt give me a strep test, b/c they didnt think it was that. I got a persc ription of 'z-pak' (6 pills, take 2 the first day and 1 each following day) That had seemed to help a lot. They said if things didnt start to get better, come back, and theyd test me for mono and/or strep. I guess it was just some sort of bacterial infection. When i started taking the perscription, it didnt seem to help until the 3rd day, the swelling starting going down as the day went on. I felt it still for about a month later with the sinuses, mucus and the likes. Whatever it was, it was pretty wicked....thats the first time, in at least 5 years, i got sick. Im not sure how old most you are, but im 22, so you can definitly say that it affects younger people as well. I think i got it from visiting my brother at college, there seems to be stuff always going around at schools.
