that is down right cruel, you know it is impossible for a man to change channels without one, right? Unless you have kids of course, they work as well.

No, good Muslims are encouraged to protest intelligently and with dialogue if they are going to protest at all, but most just acknowledge their disagreement and go about their daily lives.

But I agree, they should just not celebrate it, the problem though is that society pushes this holiday onto them and their kids. Just about every school in America celebrates Valentine's Day as well, so this is not something that the average Muslim can just forget about if they wish to retain their own culture.

I live in a devoutly Catholic country and I am a confirmed atheist.

There is religious symbolism everywhere I look, but I don't get hung up on it. I am a guest in this beautiful country, and whilst I disagree strongly with the teachings of the Catholic church (even though I was baptised within it), I respect the wish of the majority to worship how they see fit.

It would be an absolute outrage for me, an outsider, to come in and start telling these people they have it all wrong and they had better start believing what I believe or face the consequences.

Too many of these extremist zealots come into a foreign country and start spouting off, find out that the locals are actually tolerant, get away with it, then think they can overturn the status quo.

This is what is happening in the UK at the moment. Enoch Powell was entirely right about 'rivers of blood' because it is a real possibility now in Britain.

what has happened to people here?
Some of you are getting so damn bigoted and nasty and it doesnt make ATS look good, trust me. You've got people saying muslim women are unnattractive and "hags", you've got people saying...nuke them all, you've got people saying "send them all back, its not THEIR country"....?????

Can you people, just for once, stop before you write these things and imagine substituting the word muslims for "jew" or "black".

If you would still write it, fair enough. But if you wouldnt, then sod off and take your nasty little comments elsewhere.

You guys are picking up on every tiny thng now, its parthetic. As someone pointed out, there were also hindus mentioned in the story, but i havent read one comment about them....only muslims. And as that person also pointed out, there were about a dozen muslims....and we have people here generalising over a billion.

Some of you people make me sick to my stomach. Its nice to see your true colors come out though

-invading Kuwait

You seem to think only brown people commit these crimes. The last time I checked the stats, the USA is one of the most violent nations on earth (crimewise).

Invading Iraq...

Overthrowing Iran's Mossedeq

Supporting war criminal Pinochet's seizure of power..

The list of our crimes are just as endless.

As Jesus said, he who is without sin, cast the first stone

Oh yeah, that reminds me, the USA is the only nation to nuke another nation. So, who's really the BIGGEST threat to world peace? A self-interested and historically isolated America would not be. That America did not look afar in search of dragons to slay. We were far more prosperous and independent, too.

That's the point .. you'd have to IMAGINE that word put in
the story because those people aren't the ones committing
these outragious acts on massive scales about everything
on the freak'n planet.

You guys are picking up on every tiny thng now,

Hey ... if they weren't doing it then there wouldn't be
anything to pick up on, would there?

Also, I wouldn't call what they are doing 'tiny'. The cartoon
riots are worldwide, destructive, and death has incurred
from them.

The Valentines outrages happen each year. It's not just a few
dozen people .. it happens every year and it happens with
MANY people engaged in it. They steal, they destroy private
property, and they murder. ALL because they won't tolerate
anyone who worships differently and because they haven't
got a clue as to the roots of ST. Valentines day. If they did
understand it, which they don't take the time to do, they'd
see that it was named to honor the man who died standing
up for his faith in marriage and in God against a heathen
society. Something that they SUPPOSEDLY believe in as well.

So what? We did it to stop a war and to save American lives.
It also saved Japanese lives - and they were the aggressors!
They would have fought until every last one of them was dead.
Our nuke of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war and
saved millions of lives.

So bringing Hiroshima up has no relevance.

if you have a problem with islam, fair enough....if, on the other hand, you generalise an entire group of people as "hags" , then you have crossed the line from debating something intelligently, into pure bigotry and racism, and yes, i will say racism, because although muslims arent a race, alot of you people see muslims only as arabs and middle eastern.

And there were around TWELVE muslims there.....!!!!!!.....how the hell does that mean ALL muslims?

you keep on making excuses to yourself. I have read alot of your posts and have seen enough to know what kind of person you are

and if you actually read the friggin story, you would see that for the most part it was hindus...the Shiv Sena party in particular.

Does that mean all hindus are like this?....no, i dont think so. But then, i'm not a bigot

I can understand you accusing people of making sweeping generalisations, but then you go and make the very same mistake you accuse others of (see the letters I have made bold and italicised from your own posting).

You should be in a position to either substantiate or withdraw such a remark. From the flimsy evidence available I fail entirely to see how you can substantiate it.

I've read the article, I think it's more appropriately titled "Kashmiris (sp?) Protest Valentine's Day".... there's only a bunch of muslims that joined in. I wonder why it's that way.

Oh, yes. I do.

tell you why they won't go back and live in the desert, two reasons;

1. No freedom of speech
2. The social security isn't so good and they might actually have to work for a living instead of sponging off the UK taxpayers.

i took that off one of your posts Englishmaninspain.....and you talk to me about generalising?...lol

I didnt, by the way, generalise anyway...i said...."alot of you people"....and thats true. Theres also alot who are rational, decent humans who, whatever their religious beliefs or non beleifs....are intelligent enough to come to their own conclusions, instead of getting so caught up in this propaganda thing, that they just parrot everything.

And if the above comment of yours was not racist, then maybe i'm missing the definition of racism.

The truth is, an argument can be made for or against what Truman did.

That does not wipe out the fact that we are the only nation who has ever used Nukes.

There are fanatics and hate-filled, violence-prone people from every nation on earth. Evil is not exclusive to any one ethnicity or religion. Pat Robertson, anyone?

Pat Robertson, USA, 1pt.
Osama bin Who, SA, 1pt.
Ahmadinejad, IRAN, 1pt.
Zhirinofski, Russia, 1pt.

Personally, I'm sick of it too. If I were coordinating supression efforts on their raids, I'd instruct them to use lethal force. I think someone needs to show them that physical action isn't the only option, and that they need to mind their own business.

Oh gawd .. this should be entertaining.

How many of my posts have you read?
Just exactly what 'kind of person' am I ??
Amazing.

You are just ticked because I know what a 'houris'
really is (BTS religion forum thread) and you don't.

The fact that this silly issue has drawn so much attention, is in itself, ridiculous!!

It's a non-issue. A distraction.

So, let's keep bashing Muslims and not direct our thoughts to much more urgent issues.. like getting our troops out of the quagmire Iraq and holding this administration responsible for BREAKING the LAW (NSA spying).

Was it you or some other member who came out with the wise words that the muslims are not actually a race? So how can that be racist?

Let us face facts, the likes of Abu Hamza want to do away with our way of life and everything we stand for. Were they just a ridiculous fringe group then I would not care, but they are becoming ever more mainstream and their words are being acted upon by large numbers of followers.

If you are happy to sit by and let that happen then good luck to you.

For the record, I am not a racist and have no problem with any group of people, regardless of their ethnic origin, religious or political persuasion, but when they threaten the very fabric of a way of life I hold dear, then I will not sit idly by and let it happen, although you are free to if you really feel so strongly about it.

Yes, but the REASON we used it was because we were
attacked, and the result of the use was that millions of
lives were saved. Sorry, but it just doesn't matter
in this conversation.

There are fanatics and hate-filled, violence-prone
people from every nation on earth.

Oh .. absolutely! No question.

The problem here is that there are millions of these
Muslims out and about stealing, looting, rioting,
murdering, and threatening murder on a massive
scale all around the world, for every little thing.
AND they can't blame their behavior on others .. it doesn't fly.

It's real. Most of us are getting sick of it.

Like the fact that they steal and destroy Valentines goods from stores
EVERY stinking year .. that they threaten violence against the store
owners and those who shop in them every stinking year??

More urgent issues ... like the millions around the world who are
rioting, destroying property, and calling for genocide of entire
'infidel' countries because of a few political cartoons?

Yes ... I'd say the cartoon riots are a more urgent issue to the
world in general ... unless you happen to be in a country that
the Muslims are threatening to kill you for buying a pink teddy
bear this week.

VERY good! Being against the illegal and threatening
behaviors of groups of people who happen to worship
the same way isn't being RACIST... It's called being rational.
