OK, if I open the thread in Internet Explorer instead of Firefox I can see the Chinese character instead of the diamond.

Excellent sluething, AceOfBase...you've got it pegged! It has to be IE which shows them

Now, I wonder if anyone can translate this into English? I've seen about a dozen such characters in the tagging experience...of various size and type.

Is there a way to isolate ALL such characters on the ATS site or am I just on a useless mission? (most probably)

I just took a screen capture of the area that masqua took a picture of:

I see a normal question mark in the area indicated. I had no idea what you guys were talking about until masqua posted that snap shot from the camera.

I'm using the latest release of Firefox, could that make a difference???
I also have several language updates on this machine because I couldn't view the JAXA website properly without them. Could that make a difference???

Edit: Here is the same area of that screen when I open it with Internet Explorer.

600 members have now added tags to the ATS boards.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

There are a total of 66551 total tags placed by these members.

18.7% of all ATS threads are tagged with at least one tag.

Click the link in my signature to add tags to threads that need them...............

Also you can open multiple windows of the same thread and TAG it with more than 30 characters. I would advise against doing this because I am sure the tags are monitored and you will get them removed and lose points! Just a heads up to all you TAGGERS out there!

I u2u'd SO and Mirthful about this issue also.

Maybe we should have a ruling from Higher Up on this, if we are allowed to use this practice while tagging.

I know I'd love to add more than what we are limited to (30), to many of the threads I tag.

It would be nice to get an answer on this, because if it's allowed, I'll use it.

I see members have been tagging:

DustintheWind has added 4,706 total tags.

That's almost 300 new tags for today, and you'll be in the 5,000 plus with a few more tags

Hey anx you ever get a response from the mods on this yet?

I didn't recognize you with your new stuck duck.

I like your new avatar and background colour.

I never did get an answer to that question. The silence from the mods on this whole issue of tagging has been deafening. The last time a mod or anyone from from admin, like SkepticOverlord, made a response to this thread was back on page 11.

Seekerof has said good-bye, so it looks like we're left holding the tag flag.

I see you've been busy >>>>>> DustintheWind has added 7005 total tags.

I think it's time one of us puts together a recent top ten list.

I wouldn't worry about the deafening silence from the mods too much, anxietydisorder. The tagging process seems to be going fairly well with those 600 taggers plinking away. I'm guessing most are tagging recent threads as they keep up on the ATS flow.

My guess is that SO is fairly busy with other projects right now and that there is a lot going on behind the scenes between the admins and the moderator staff.

I also doubt that the tagging project will end anytime soon...there's so much left to do. I notice that there are a dozen or so members with an impressively growing number of threads tagged and that's a good thing.

SO...et al

Not sure where to post this...but I just happened by the tags for the above mentioned thread...and some of the tags are interesting descriptors...i.e. words like bullsh*t, etc...There is enough happening on this thread without this kind of sophmoric behavior...

I've noticed quite a few of these type of tags as well. However, it is a 1000 point penalty for placing one such tag on a thread and three can get someone banned.

I can't figure why people are so lazy they'd rather put their opinions in a tag instead of debating the issue in a post.

The moderators will eventually catch up to these taggers anyways, since they can see who tagged the thread.

Hey, thanks for putting together an updated Top Ten List DustintheWind.
I was sorry to see Seekerof take a bow, he contributed so many tags.
But we'll soldier on in his absence.

I just took a look at The Giant Page Of ATS Content Tags and the numbers are getting quite impressive.

I think I'll go tag some stuff before you knock me out of first place.

I don't think that will happen anytime soon unless you take at least a 3 week break from taggin!

anxietydisorder has added 10519 total tags.

DustintheWind has added 7005 total tags.

I'm Not Taking A Break Until 25% Of Threads Are Tagged....

SkepticOverlord was looking for 25% of the threads to be tagged to put in the new search feature. (Not that you can't search tags now with Tag Search)

As of today the members have tagged 20.1% of all threads, and I've heard that there are some changes coming up soon on the ATS Boards, so it would be nice to hit that 25% ASAP.

If a few members could put in a few hours tagging threads we could hit that 25% in just a week or so.

To find threads that have no tags yet, just see this link: Untagged Threads

Click the thread titles on the page and tag them with something relevant to the topic of the thread, and you get the points for it.
I know this post is just a bump, but if every member puts in a few more tags, the system will start to pay off in a big way.

Go tagging..............
Thanx, anx..............

Maybe people are too lazy to read up on the tagging rules?

The Serpo thread should give you quite some point chopping.

Wow, I didnt know the number of tags was kept track of. thats great. I really enjoy tagging, it's fun and not boring and you can sometimes come accross some interesting threads. Plus, it's gotten way easier thanks to the 500 threads that need tags page which i will go browse as soon as i post this, yay for me

If we need to remove three or more of your tags, your account will be terminated. This also may apply to tags that are more opinion than fact if they cross the political line of unbiased tagging.

This is a reminder from the first post in this thread.

Content Tagging is Here!

and whats the point?
If say me, being as i am - did a tag and it was deemed inapropriate , id get 1000 points deducted?
WHats the point of points anyway? - i see no monitory gain in having them.

Not caring about the points is fine with me. How do you feel about the getting banned part after doing 3 or more crappy tags?

The point is to make it easier to find threads on ATS that are related to the subject you are looking at. If you are reading one of the threads on Hamas, Area 51, Joint Strike Fighter, etc.. and click a tag that says Hamas, Area 51, Joint Strike Fighter, etc.. you can see other previous threads about those subjects.
