...you see empty programmed statements...there is little that is empty about them, unless you truly KNOW it, truly FEEL it, you will see nothing in it...

I think it's really because those people are easily led and programmed. They tend not to have a mind of their own, IMO. They're more empty shells filled with the veiwpoints of others. These empty shells have an undying need to fill themselves with whatever they can. God is a nice filler for these empty shells, apparently.

You may think that...but I certainly don't, perhaps though that is bias on my part as I have a God Belief...though I also have a Degree, numerous other Tertiary Diplomas and Certificates which might just indicate I'm not totally stupid and may just possess the ability to engage my brain now and then

I do agree however that *perhaps* when people are new of a Belief they are like empty shells...and they take their information from others, they learn from what is taught...as we all do...as well all HAVE to, thats how we learn as we don't all possess the answers inherently. But, once we get some of that information into our 'shells', we then have some information to chew over with our minds, to see how that fits in with our lives, the world and everything else.

Its like a kid being given a big box of Lego Blocks to play with...now, they can make many different shapes with them, someone might show them how to make a car, so they make a car, some a house, some a gun, some probably just thinks "Lego sucks, I wanna play with Duplo instead". But ultimately the brain is being engaged...its just different outputs are eventuating.

Some took the Lego and said "Lego sucks, Lego is just fake building blocks, you can't make a REAL house out of lego"

Some took the Lego and said "Hmmm, yeah, I think I will build a sort of house/car thingy"

Some said "I will only build what is shown on the packet"

I certainly don't see the majority of those I know with a God Belief as being these needy emptyshells who possess now ability to self-govern or think...they have thought, they have made their choice and they make it every day...its just they thought/chose to make a house when you may have made a car...

...but, it certainly pays not to judge all Lego Users...to even judge a majority of Lego Users as 'Stick to the Model shown on the Packet' types of kids...

Peace,
ALIEN

I don't judge Lego users, unless they become convinced that their Legos have magical powers (even though the Legos have never done anything to suggest this possibility) and become obsessed with making it known to everyone else in the Lego kingdom. It's these people I have to call insane.

I'm reviving this topic.
Remember to also tell us why you believe what you believe.

I do believe that there is a God. I was raised no real religion but was baptized a Catholic and have since investigated the church and do attend occassionally. But, I do not think that you need to go to church to talk to God, if he is all seeing, as most know he is, then you can talk to him anywhere.

I also think, and people may get mad at me for this one, that perhaps the Christian God is the same as the Buddah, or the Indian's Gods, just tailored to what that particular person is comfortable with. I mean, who says that one religion is right and one is wrong, God, to me, is however you interpret him. The important thing to me is to do the right thing and to treat others as you want to be treated. Perhaps that is a bit niiave, but that is me.

And I have asked God for help in the past, sometimes it has come in ways that, had I not been looking, I might have missed. Sometimes it comes in the form of finding the inner strength to continue onward. I believe God is out there, but the hard work of life is up to you to do, God's job is just to nudge you the right way when you are lost.

A lot of people have asked me before if I believe in God, my answer has always been, I KNOW, I dont believe, yes, there is a creator. And I BELIEVE that all religions are just mans attempts to understand this higher intelligence. I am not any religion, I see all religions as valid in some ways for they are all our attempts to understand what its all about. Some people need structured religions, I do not.

Now, as to why I know there is something..when I was a teenager I had a being appear in my living room, scared the daylights out of me, but also left no doubt that there is a higher power, and it does care about us.
only happened that once, but changed my life forever. I dont question anymore, I just accept that there is something greater than I, and that it does care and is aware.
I have told my story many times, to many people of many religions and beliefs, and they all say something different, in the end, none of us know for sure what God is, we all see different aspects of the creator. Much like looking at a diamond, depending on how the light hits the diamond, you might see a different color, but the diamond still fills up with light. Just my opinion

If you can look at all these modern religions and find the common goal, its the same for most, be good to one another, love each other, live in peace if you can, harm none. Live to your full potential. All rather simple.

Were there any other witnesses to this appearance? Why do you think it was god? What did he say, or communicate to you? Why do you suppose you're one of the only people in the entire world to have such an appearance happen?

I believe in common sense,
a broad logical mind
and an openess to compromise,
a willingness to learn
and an ability to share,
I welcome humility
as I welcome respect,
I accept my wrongs
as you accept my rights.

I wish I could sing.....

No, I was alone, no witnesses. The being appeared, told me to kneel and pray, and I was hit with all sorts of feelings and emotions...scared me so bad that I ran out of the house. No, I dont think I am the only one, am sure it happens to others. And I wish that it happened to everyone at least once to help them figure life out and not have doubts.
The feelings I got were something that words cant properly describe other than it was divine. Left no doubt in my mind that it was sent from the creator.
My thoughts at the time were "This isnt supposed to happen" then F**k this!!! and I ran. I got the fight or flight response from myself.

physical description of this being was someone about 6 feet tall, long blondish brown hair, white robes with gold trim. Radiated light and emotions. He was a male, looked a lot like classic pictures of jesus actually, but I cant say who it was cause he didnt say, and I didnt stick around to find out
I was only 17. If you really are curious, you can click my website link and read about my life experiences , but, I am not out to prove anything, just voicing my opinion on God.

I believe in GOD, Love Jesus and Mary, Defiantly Like Jesus' Teachings and try to always Do unto others as I would want done to me.

I DO NOT Believe in the Roman Catholic Church and I am not so happy with Organized Religion in General. I think when its done right a great sense of community can be had, which is good and truly what I think the message of GOD is. But power, money and lies have hurt 80% of organized Religion.

I Think the Old testament has alot of Historical facts and Figures, but alot of it is made up to explain things not understood. I believe the book is written by man and change over the years to help those in power so cannot be read verbatim (spelling).

Last note.

I think the proof of GOD is the Mathematic perfectness of the chaos in the Universe. Seems like a plan to me.

I also believe in Evolution, Creationism, makes no sense.

I don't believe in God per se, that is if you define 'him' in the classical sense - as a 'him' - a subject of worship, the creator, the boss. I do however believe that there is something beyond the reality we perceive, and maybe, some higher purpose of which we are not yet aware.

I have a grounding in science, physics, rationality, and logic. That said, I do think that one day, science as we know it will find its boudaries, just as superstition, religion, philosophy have found theirs. We may find things that cannot be explained with numbers and formulae. Then, as an increasingly intelligent spieces, may find a successor to science - maybe a combination of science/religion/metaphysics, maybe something we are yet to conceive based on something we are yet to realise or discover.

Maybe this transition is happening now, the implications of quantum mechanics, string theory, and relativity are becoming metaphysical in nature, that is they point ever nearer to the very nature of our reality - or at least the nature of the fabric of our reality.
I would hypothesise that we will discover that not all existence is physical in nature and measurable in its properties, that everything is intrinsially linked in some way, maybe even a universal conciousness shared by everything that exists. If that is God, then maybe there is something to believe in. Who knows?

I don't want to force my religion on to anyone, but the truth is that I am very sure that God exists, and that jesus died for us.

Lately I have been a bit troubled by this issue...I do believe in God in a way, but my belief is becoming weaker I have found...I have been trying to think about it mathematically and can't really decide one way or the other...if there is a God, it would explain why we are here, how we act the way we do, our emotions, etc...I find it very hard to believe that our earth and all of us were just randomly created in space over time...but I also think the idea of an all powerful being that could create all this is hard to believe too. And, if the universe spans infinity, that means that there are infinite number of random things happening all over the place, which means it is very possible that we are just a complete fluke, and that we are just one of many places in the universe like this.

One thing is though, I do think there has to be some kind of soul, and that we aren't just the same as our bodies...everybody is too different, everyone has a conscience that is created and destroyed with life and death, and it seems that science can't explain souls...but supposedly only humans have souls and animals don't, but I find this hard to believe as well...I don't know...

So far all I have been able to conclude is that there is a lot of strange # going on in our world that can't be explained by science, and whether you believe in a creator, or just random equations taking place, either option seems highly unlikely...so I don't know what to believe really.

I want to believe in God, and I do, just not as well as I should...if anyone thinks they can help convince me to believe, or show me proof, please u2u me, I would really like to read it.

I'm pretty sure he died, but not "for us". I still have seen absolutely no proof of a god. It would take an event like Darkblade71's to convince me otherwise. Needless to say, I can't believe his experience was real either. My skeptical nature won't allow it. That doesn't mean that I don't believe he thinks it was real.

Like I see it: Its not a problem believing in a god but its a problem how people using their beliefs on that subject. They really use their belief thats dangerous using something that is ((true and false)) it must be pure true before you can use it, only that way all will accept it.
