If you had never heard of "god" in your entire life, and today someone told you that story, I seriously doubt you'd believe it, unless you're very gullible. I have a sneaking suspicion that you (those of you who believe in god) have been somewhat conditioned to accept the story. No matter if you were raised religiously or not, everyone has heard of god from a very early year...possibly from the time your memories started. I don't think you realize how programmed you are.

Some of you say that things are just too complicated to be natural. Well, everything is complicated, until it's explained to you, or you figure it out. I'd venture to say that there are things much more complicated than our universe, and your god. Why wouldn't there be? To me, this universe is mysterious, but not really all that complicated. Everything works the same. It's all circular and orbital....every single speck.

I once heard an argument that if you found a watch on the ground, you would assume that someone made it, and it did not occur naturally. You can assume where it goes from there...

god is fake. there is no god. the idea of a "god" was created by neolithic people who wanted something to comfort them during times of trouble. if this never happened, there wouldn't be a god. WE created god.

Science is my only religion.

What if you'd never seen a watch before? It's all a matter of perspective. If you'd never seen a man made device before, you might not know. This is what I was talking about, sort of. You've been programmed to think that certain things are created objects, only because you've seen objects that have been created by man. There was once a time when humans didn't even have the wheel. Would they know what a watch was? A Bic lighter might be supernatural magic to them. To us, it's just a lighter.

I never used to believe in God. Im a catholic now, i can't explaining the feeling i got, i just knew He existed. Someone once said;

If God didn't exist, then there would be no need to invent him

Going to have to disagree with you on this one as there would be a large need to invent God. Why? For the same reason that people have the need to believe in good/evil, souls/afterlife and the like. It is the hope that there is a point and purpose in this life, that we are all special and loved. I am not arguing the existence of god here only the very human need to have one if there is not one.

So someone woke up one day and went "i have a great idea! lets invent a thing called God and say He created everything".

Basically, yes. But it was more of a method of controlling people...giving them a reason to be good. It's the same as telling a child Santa won't come if they've been bad. Although, we all know it doesn't really work very well...religion, or Santa.

Well it just comes down to faith. I have faith. I don't believe in trying to convert people by telling them that their going to burn in hell, thats not nice

Of course not, but neither did Alexander Fleming when he discovered penicillin; these things merely evolve over time.

Just remember, your god was not the first god. The sun and numerous animals came long before that. They had faith in their gods too.

Ok, lets get this straight here, just so we have an idea of who's who. Please state your stance on this issue, what religion you follow (if any), a brief explanation of why you believe what you do, and any other comments you care to make. Sound acceptable?.

Satyr, I don't believe in God. But i believe that one's soul never
dies. So, i guess that means i believe in re-incarnation.
Think of me as a Buddhist who smokes, drinks beer, has a hobby
of buying 'material goods', and is really pissed off with George Bush Sr.

I don't really believe in reincarnation, sanctum. At least, I hope it doesn't work that way. I'd like to believe my energy will tranform into something else. I have no desire to stay here on earth forever, nor to live in human form forever. That would be a shame, IMO.

Satyr, your energy is your soul imo.

I DO believe in God. I also believe that all sentient creatures have a soul.

I believe that there is a higher power that created all. Maybe part of this is my complete inability to believe that something can come from nothing. However, to take that further, what/who then created God? I think our human brains cannot fully comprehend infinity so I won't even try.

I believe in a higher plane of existence.
What it is I don't know.
But everyday I learn a little bit more...

If there was no God, we would be "accidents", the result of astronomical random chance in the universe.
....then life would have no purpose or meaning or significance. There would be no right or wrong, and no hope beyond your brief years here on earth.
But there IS a God who made you for a reason, and your life has profound meaning! We discover that meaning and purpose ONLY when we make God the reference point of our lives.
You didn't create yourself, so there is no way you can tell yourself what you were created for.
You cannot arrive at your life's purpose by starting with a focus on yourself. You must begin with God, your Creator. You exist only b/c God wills that you exist. You were mad BY God and FOR God - and until you understand that, life will never make sense.
The easiest way to discover the purpose of an invention is to ask the creator of it. The same is true for discovering your life's purpose: Ask God
God is not just the starting point of your life; he is the source of it. To discover your purpose in life you must turn to God's Word, not the world's wisdom.
Enough of babbling..what I'm trying to say is this:
Without God life makes no sense.
Think about it.

I cannot honestly guess how many believe in God. I can say that I believe and follow a God and a Goddess!

I believe that Science is humankinds way of figuring out how the Gods done things and how to make use of these newly acquired gifts no matter how wild the discovery.

It would not surprise me at all, when we discover other intelligent life that they too have their own gods. Whether all gods and all goddesses are the same I cannot say.

I just feel that the God and Goddess manefest themselves as the entirety of the Cosmos in flux.

I was born and raised in a Sikh family. Eventualy over time, I became agnostic.

God serves no direct purpose in my life, other than curiosity.
