Do you feel like that PM should ask him?? if he actually has that power, than I suppose the Monarch is clearly not as powerless as is routinely claimed now.

He only has the power if asked.

Did our Civil War pass you by?

Yes, I get that, but in the absence of a vote of no confidence in Parliament, you have legislation in place for Referendum. Referendum is triggered by a significant percentage of the electors. I was thinking that it is 20%. I suppose there is also the problem that the petitioners who sign for the referendum have to be vetted as being registered electors, and perhaps that didn't happen.

There is no denying that the number of people who signed the petition send a clear message of distrust and dissatisfaction with the current government. Labour party is left of centre, correct? Kind of an analogue of the U.S. democrats being outed in the U.S. Presidential election.

Maybe the world is regaining its senses, having decided to not spend hundreds of thousands of billions of dollars controlling other countries via the auspices of climate change. Perhaps governments might tend toward taking care of their own, rather than controlling the world.

Referendums are different to General Elections.

I get that. What we are talking about is avenues toward changing an elected government, right?

Yep.

Petitions won't do that, unfortunately.

I was just coming to comment on that

I notice the 'gooberment' are saying bots are adding to the figure. Maybe they are, but if they can claim that and that some people are voting multiple times, then they should show their evidence of that and adjust accordingly. Put their money where their mouths are!!!
GBNews have the chap Michael Westwood, who started the petition in their studio during their lunchtime programme today. I'll be listening in.
Another 44,560 since you posted.

PS, Live link to GBNews if anyone wants to watch/listen in. Programme interviewing him starts as 12 noon.

Sucks when you scream at the sky and nothing happens.

Well you guys should know all about that?
How many of you were, and remain, convinced that Biden and The Democrats stole the 2020 election?
A hell of a lot of them by reckoning.
And for all your bluster and whining what did you do about it?
For all your harping on about guns and your Second Amendment what happened?
# all.
Biden stayed in office for all of his full term and you did absolutely nothing about it.

Perhaps you all just need some resources from old friends to nudge things along?

If, judging by your and others apparent willingness and desire to sell your friends down the river, any offer of help and 'resources' from across the pond would be taken with an incredibly large pinch of salt.

G’day Gortex, can dual citizens who live overseas sign the petition, or is it only for residents?

There's zero checks so it's easy to vote multiple times by anyone accessing the site from the UK.

I don't know if the system recognises access from outside the UK, but I'm assuming not, because it's so so easy to vote multiple times. Just need 'throwaway' email addresses lol

I initially 'signed' this petition, but when I realised it was so easy to scam, I just look at it for entertainment purposes now👍

Government petitions - interesting things.

Back in 2019 a petition to cancel Brexit gained 6.1 million signatures.
Just last year another petition for a second referendum on Brexit received 4.2 signatures.

We pro-Brexit supporters laughed and said that's not how our democracy works.

If I remember correctly most of us Brits on here are/were pro-Brexit.
And most of us passionately oppose what Starmer is doing to the country - and I'm almost certain most of us also had no liking for Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss or Sunak.

Now I know due to a vagary in our electoral system Labour secured a massive landslide victory despite only gaining approximately 35% of the overall vote. The reality is Labour have a mandate.
If we don't like it we should work to change the electoral system that gave them that overall majority.
We can't just expect another General Election to be called regardless of how many signatures the petition receives, especially considering our own previous dismissal of these type of petitions.

I can't stress enough how much I distrust Starmer as a person. Or how much I dislike his smug arrogance and his betrayal and casual dismissal of core traditional Labour supporters. And I have a passionate loathing of his sanctimonious condescension towards anyone who disagrees with him. Nor do I support many of the policies he has introduced in his short time in Downing Street and particularly despise him for his suppression of freedom of speech, two tier policing and using the judicial system as political enforcers.

The problem lies with our electoral and parliamentary processes and procedures. And with the forces behind the scenes that seek to uphold and maintain that system at all costs.
We urgently need radical reform, that is the only way we will change anything.

Thanks. Very informative.

So only a bit of a kick in the nuts for Starmer & Co and not a coup de grace. Sadly.

Lord of the Universe and High Elf to the Summoners Court , Kier Jong Starmer , has ruled out an early general election telling a reporter from the La La land gazette the deluded minions sighing the petition didn't vote for him so it doesn't matter.

"Look, I remind myself that very many people didn't vote Labour at the last election," he told ITV's Good Morning Britain.

"I'm not surprised that many of them want a rerun. That isn't how our system works. There will be plenty of people who didn't want us in, in the first place.

"So, what my focus is on is the decisions that I have to make every day."
La LA Land Gazette

Problem is Kier , the decisions you've made so far have been crap , enjoy the recession next year.

I don't think many thought different but you can bet they're taking notice of the 2,315,776 signatures and still rising.

Now Labour have got the Old Bill chasing non crime hate incidents , a gift given to them by the Tories.

2,323,462 signatures.
