It is going to be interesting for sure but this was not the right man for the job and as DC politics is he was appointed and voted upon in private.

What BS is that?

I grew up very Christian, the ones who focused too much on the book of revelations usually gave me the jeebies.

The jeebies....
Those that speak in verse always bring up the spidey sense....

In New York and Texas my mom would bring us to different churches once every month or two just to show us the differences. All the denominations, couple of different religions, and in Texas, some of the more extreme (like speak in tongue).

I got the sense that most Christians don’t take the book of revelations literally, and they instead looked at the book as a whole. Then you have others that are more fire and brimstone, and use fear, and revelations to command a message.

What I never understood, is why some get so excited for the end times, flirting with or blatantly implying they’d help it’s coming. Like, we’re all going to die anyways, what’s the sense of bringing the end times? Especially considering it pretty much demands an apocalyptic world war. Like, what if you’re wrong?

Was Cheney qualified? He served under Bush Sr. 5 deferments for Vietnam.

Tell me how he is not qualified if that is what has come before him? Just because you are a leader in the military does not mean you know what is needed.

But, lets stick to the OP.

Thune is swamp and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Looking though the list not many are military incline. One had a BA in Latin, that works well in the military.

Thune is a member of the SWAMP that Trump wants his Attorney General to drain.

Matt Gaetz will be fearless in doing so, if THUNE does not block his being approved as Attorney General.

At the end of the day, the Vice President is the president of the senate.

JD Vance, as the VP, will be in the position to do what he thinks is best for the country in the senate, or defer to Thune to do it.
Pence never had the stones or brains to do it.

This is the first dubious appointment he has made in the last week since the election results. 9/10 ain't bad

I don't think Trump chose him, they had a "secret" vote I guess.

Correct. This is a secret senate choosing, not Trump.

If Thune tells the 38 GOP Senators who voted for him NOT TO APPROVE GAETZ as ATTORNEY GENERAL, you're saying Vice President Vance can override Thune?

In a Nutshell, what MAGA is collectively saying...

John Thune Elected Senate Majority Leader, in Blow to MAGA Conservatives – Mitch McConnell Lackey, Trump-Hater, and War-Monger Wins Majority Leader.

This is new OP level.

I have two points that are very close to one another, almost making them the same point. Here goes.

1- Trump did not "shoot from the hip" when he put up Matt Gaetz as his nomination for AG. I would love to have Matt Gaetz, he would "shake the tree" like nobody has. That is what Trump is all about, MAGA, an outsider doing what insiders cannot. Matt Gaetz is untethered from the institutionalists, the deep states will do anything they can to prevent his nomination, agreed?
That leads us to my second point.
2-Trump would love to get Matt Gaetz confirmed but Trump knows this may not happen, agreed? So, since we know Trump is fully aware of the difficulty Matt Gaetz will have getting the Senate to approve his nomination, Gaetz could be also used as a foil, a way for Trump to get-obstensibley-his second choice through congress. Now who would that be? I don't know but Trump would love to get Matt Gaetz through but if Trump cannot he would have an easier time getting his "second choice". All of Trumps cards have not been played here, Trump is holding a winning hand. Does the deep state raise or check? This is the art of the deal, Trump has the winning hand.

He's severely unqualified for the position. I like him, he's great on camera but no way should he receive that appointment.

The Constitution of the United States says you can elect someone who is in charge in the Absence of the Vice President. They are electing a role, not an office, when they select the Senate Leader.

Article One, Section 3, Clause 4 designates the vice president of the United States as the president of the Senate.

Case Closed.

JD Vance for Senate leader if this RINO starts to show his horn. John Adams served like that, and there's no rule against it.

Other than that, if we really mean business, keep score and pay attention, we will primary our problem into non-existence come 2026.

The branches were also set up as checks and balances. Legislative have their own powers separate from legislative.

We’ll see how it plays out, but I doubt the VP can just dictate how senate is ran. I’d prefer them not to be able to as well. If the left was in power, I wouldn’t want the executive arm being able to have so much control of the legislative arm.

The system is designed to be bogged down, and not make too many changes too fast. It takes full consensus to make vast changes.

Millions of employees, billions of dollars - as in a fiscal budget over $842B, is 'second only to the president in the military hierarchy' are the most obvious. My personal opinion, I don't see where he has the experience or expertise to oversee something of that magnitude.

I posted where it is allowed. To much of modern politics it about keeping the norm and not following the law. It was not designed to be bogged down that is what has evolved. .
