Not happy about this. I do not like this guy and he is Mitch the Bitch 2.0.

Link

Thune, McConnell’s top deputy and an establishment favorite, must guide a conference hungry for changes after McConnell’s iron grip. He’s also tasked for guiding President Donald Trump’s agenda through the Senate, advancing his nominees swiftly and moving Trump’s aggressive legislative agenda. Thune received 23 votes on the first ballot – four short of locking up a victory. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) received 15, and Sen. Rick Scott 13. On the second ballot, Thune secured a victory over Cornyn 29 to 24.

There are still some options to make this right and it is sad it will come to that. I know Thune is conservative but he is in line with Pompeo and we can still see, when it is not the people, they keep the swamp alive.

The VP is the highest ranking member of the Senate. He has the ability to take control although we have not seen that in modern times.

Not a fan either...but my big fat rationalization is

sometimes you have to give to get, questionable appointments might smooth getting future legislation passed.

It's just a smelly reality of American politics

I think Trump just wants a "yes man". It's idiotic.

That's what I thought.

Totally unqualified for the job.

Trump needs a wise head for this job.

This guy is not it.

It's actually a smart move.

Most people who get picked for that position come from a small pool of former Pentagon officials who have already been politicized.

Hegseth hasn't.

The more I think about it, the smarter the idea seems to get.

Pull people that weren't already in the DC slime, that's the smart move.

From the Wiki on him:
" In 2004 his unit was called to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, where he served as an infantry platoon leader with the Minnesota Army National Guard. His unit was under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, where he held the position of infantry platoon leader and, later in Samarra, as Civil–Military Operations Officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal"

Seems like he might know a thing or two about the Military and Combat Operations.
Certainly not clueless.

As for the rest, we shall see.

I agree with that, like Trump, JD Vance, Elon, Vivek, RFK,jr, Tulsi ......Hegseth owes nothing to nobody and will serve with the America first approach. Great pick.
As far as Thune, all we can do now is hope he does the right thing. I would have rather not have Thune but he is the guy and I know Trump and JD Vance will do everything they can to have a strong, policy driven, productive relationship.

Yes, a great background as a junior officer, but no experience of Defense Intelligence?

Pete Hegseth is not part of the establishment, he will do well, he knows a lot about the military and how it works.

His background and education is very impressive.

He does have some scandal behind him but hey who in Washington is without fault.

Maybe General Michael Flynn could be helpful, he will be just a phone call away. I think Hegseth will be a quick learner. Who do you think Trump should have nominated? I will say I am glad Trump passed on Pompeo, boy was I wrong about that guy.

I don't know. But a "quick learner" seems less than ideal.

Respectfully, I disagree. Outside of someone who had already served in that role, to me, you had better get someone who is a "quick learner".

Was Cheney qualified? He served under Bush Sr. 5 deferments for Vietnam.

Tell me how he is not qualified if that is what has come before him? Just because you are a leader in the military does not mean you know what is needed.

But, lets stick to the OP.

Thune is swamp and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Hegseth is a remarkable upgrade from Lloyd “I’ve gone awol” Austin.
Austin was a woke DEI hire who made the military worse.
Austin was also a MIC stooge who was on the board of Raytheon.
He is the very definition of swamp thing.

Thune hopefully won’t be as bad as advertised.
He’s a conservative and he’ll be more effective than Scott whipping up votes and getting things done.
He’s much better than coc aine Mitch.
He can be jettisoned if need be.

The yes man is the career military man. The current SecDef. He is directly responsible for the Afghanistan withdrawal and should have resigned. Just like USSS after TWO failed assassination attempts.

THOSE are yes people. The people being appointed have ideas and not agendas. They are beholden to no one. No DC insiders.
