31 years spread over three navies. Royal navy probably punted her for not making the grade and the Australian Pusers probably outed her for the same reason. The NZ navy probably regret having her now she ran a vessel into a reef.

Just because she has three decades of time served doesn’t mean she didn’t bludge, sleep or whinge her way to commander.

It’s not uncommon to ‘promote the problem’ as a means of getting rid of unwanted baggage 👍

Just fyi.

That may be true in your case, but I don't believe it is applicable to Cmdr Grey.

She received high academic results, and as someone who travels extensively for their occupation, could reasonably be expected to relocate during her working life.

To suggest that she is a DEI hire and was promoted arbitrarily is not consistent with facts.

This is an article from 2020 about her taking up the comission:

Yorkshire woman takes command of Royal New Zealand Navy Ship

There has been a suggestion that the ship ran aground due to mechanical failure at night and in poor weather conditions, and that the New Zealand Navy have been suffering from a shortage of marine engineers.

Minister refers question over state of navy contributing to Manawanui sinking to NZDF

Note that 200 civilian Defence Force staff lost their jobs over the last few months and the ship had recently come out of a "maintenance period" where it would otherwise normally have been serviced by many of those staff who had been made redundant. I wonder if an understaffed Navy had cut corners and just released the ship without completing full maintenance?

Look at it this way kiwi… you only lost 1 of the 8 navy ships you have. I’m pretty sure we still have 430 of ours left, we could probably give you a good deal on one of our older ones if interested.

just has a fantastic idea. Load up an old ship with our illegals, and send it to NZ, since they are ready and willing to accept any and all "newcomers". Perhaps we can package all the MS13 folks on one ship so they will have things to talk about on the voyage. All at no charge. It's a win, win, win.

The fact that these people are in your country undocumented and unidentified seems to elude you. These are the people you don't know about. If the government knew who and where they were, and what crimes they have committed overseas, ICE would be on them straight away.

What happens to your brain when you start to believe all the illogical and rationally contradictory propaganda?

Oh forgive us she did well on paper!!! After thirty years across three different navies and she got her first command of a ship and ran it into a reef. Maybe there was a reason she never got such a commission in the other two? From the sounds of things there may have been reasons that had nothing to do with being discriminatory! But carry on in your arrogance.

Touchy there young feller 😂 tell me more about me 🤣

What was the diversity inclusivity and equity hire doing near a reef in poor weather during the night in a poorly maintained vessel?

Insurance job? Why did the kiwis sack crucial maintenance staff, or did they just not want to fix her ship and preferred to find employment elsewhere?

Any other NZ naval vessels having ‘mechanical failures’ after going through a maintenance period?

Doesn’t pass the pub test if you ask me 🤷🏽‍♂️

I know this was posted with comedic intent but I have to say that the thought of a coral reef sort of consciously fighting back put a little smile on my face. It would be a much need lesson in humility.

Alas.......

My granddaughter is a marine biologist and is currently in Australia on a GBR research project.
She says the reef is a disaster area in many places, and most of the world does not really hear about it because of media corruption, political bias or just blatant lies by many scientific "experts".

It is another telltale signal that many of our "world class" science authorities and institutions need a hard reset and begin to support the reality of our times with real solutions that cannot be politically motivated or given false media coverage.

Without truth, we are indeed all doomed.

She wasn't a diversity and equity hire. She was an experienced naval captain, with military rank.

The ship was surveying that reef as part of its role of hydrographic survey and it was performing an active survey mission, ongoing at the time.

Insurance job?

The ship was not insured, so, no insurance job. Several of my previous posts have linked to news articles that have clearly stated that the ship was not insured.

The ship was purchased for about $100 million by a previous government, but the NZDF is being severely underfunded by our current hard-right-wing government, who seem to be unable to understand the fiscal necessity of insuring a valuable asset (part of their 'cost-cutting', no doubt) and now they have lost the lot.

The failure and fault lies not with the commander, nor with the NZDF, but squarely with the government that have shirked their responibilities.

It was like the way that Trump cut costs, and then when the pandemic hit, the US was totally unable to deal with it, having demolished the necessary support infrastructure.

Similarly, when NASA had that Space Shuttle disaster under Ronald (McDonald) Reagan. Right-wing, penny-pinching with no understanding that it could have dire consequences.

Why did the kiwis sack crucial maintenance staff, or did they just not want to fix her ship and preferred to find employment elsewhere?

Our current fairly hard-right-wing government made very ill-advised cuts to everything they could. Their performance, fiscally, has been fairly underwhelming, as was the left-leaning government before it, after Ardern stepped down.

Any other NZ naval vessels having ‘mechanical failures’ after going through a maintenance period?

Questions are being asked of Judith Collins, who oversees the NZDF under the new government. So far, she has been tight-lipped about her government's role in allowing things to fall into disrepair. Several NZDF insiders are suggesting that the problems are not confined to the Navy and that personnel and funding losses have been heavy across all services.

There's your problem! Public bars in another country are unlikely to be good information sources. Neither are right-wing propagandist sources in other countries, nor are opinionated but ununiformed social media mouthpieces.

She wasn't a diversity and equity hire.

That’s a strong uninformed opinion considering the specific government we’re talking about here.
How do you know she wasn’t hired because she checked off all the DEI boxes?
What about her “qualifications” made her the choice to command that ship above all the other candidates?

The undocumented are 'flying under the radar'. Moreso the undocumented who are criminals. They are actively trying to evade getting caught.

You seem to think that they get registered with the government, and get a handshake and a "welcome friend".

You can't even see the rational hole in your opinion, it is so entrenched.

And yet, when they list an illegal in the news who just raped and killed a young girl, they always seem to be able to tell us when they entered the US. Must have a crystal ball. But I'm sure they report all that in detail over there, right?

Does the phrase ‘your the skipper, your responsible’ mean anything to you?

The buck stops with her as the ‘old man’ full stop.

If she wasn’t near the reef at night in inclement weather it would still be afloat.

If she had refused orders because the vessel was unseaworthy it would still be afloat.

She sounds like a die hire.Doing what she’s told because she’s told to do it.

It’s probably why she was given that particular vessel with that particular task. To be used as a scapegoat so they could find away to get rid of her.

I would suggest everybody else refused because the vessel was unseaworthy. She probably jumped at the chance thinking she was jumping up the lists and ‘girl power’
