I did enjoy a recent movie which I have forgotten the name of, starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones as father son astronauts this movie was neat because Tommy Lee Jones was sent to Neptune to see if there's other life in the universe they didn't find it but Tommy Lee Jones didn't want to come back to earth, he wanted to keep going into space so his crew mutinied against him and he killed them all. Then his son [Brad Pitt's character] goes to Neptune and finds him and tries to bring him back but he sabotages it. I found the movie pretty unbelievable yet also neat. If anybody has seen this movie and knows the name of it I would like to know so I can watch it again!

Daing, I'd forgotten about that film!

It's called Ad Astra.

Thanks for the flashback.

Trains, planes and automobiles is one of the best holiday movies ever. It ranks right up there with Home Alone and Die Hard.

My favorite movie of all time is Casablanca..

Bogart, Greenstreet and Lorre in one film what's not to love? And not for the first time, that kind of movie magic just repeats.

I am not sure I could pick one favourite - in a desert island situation, it'd probably be a toss up between Dirty Harry and Some Like it Hot.

Yes. The Maltese Falcon is also a classic.

Some Like It Hot is regarded by many as the best comedy of all time.

I

Were? Actually I still drive and do background [extra] work as well as crew. Currently working above the line for the many European and SA production co. that shoot here in Tamalewood, usually as casting pre production, AD, associate Producer.... not so much technical . And as a senior+ I seldom get SAG auditions or parts anymore.

btw...above the line=negotiated contracts. Below the line....union scale.

Basically mostly retired and blessed to be able to work on my own projects and pick and chose who and what I undertake professionally.

Old nostalgic humor isn't how they make them anymore, but science fiction also seems to loose touch of mystery, I'm getting old

What are some movies you guys like? I was watching Stargate the other night and James Spader I just love him ...

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are my absolute favorite TV series (SG-1 rated at 10 as the standard, Atlantis at 9 just like Star Trek DS9 and Babylon 5; together they make up my 4 favorite Sci-Fi series, the next one is Star Trek TNG at 7.5 because of the many filler episodes and soap-like quality of these; the episodes with the Romulans, the Borg and Q are always the best), but I haven't watched the movie in ages, it wasn't that great. And I'm a Sci-Fi fan, it's not even listed in my rather long list above which has loads of Sci-Fi* movies at the top (it is on my re-watch list but much lower).

*: or superhero movies with a strong Sci-Fi element to them and expensive graphics (mostly in the bottem list for 21st century movies). My preference in the Marvel movies is also for The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok for the same reason. Although the first Thor movie also has about 25 minutes that doesn't take place on earth (so more of a Sci-Fi element to it).

It has a lot going for it, Marilyn obviously, but Billy Wilder had a special kind of brilliance he knew how to push against the restraints then imposed upon Hollywood. I love The Apartment too. Sunset Boulevard. The Seven Year Itch (of course).

Which all now reminds me of George Cukor and Born Yesterday, another perfect film and starring my second favourite blonde, Judy Holliday.

Technically and artistically perfect. Educational too, on a few levels

Another Judy Holliday gem - and Hepburn and Tracy, but Holliday steals every scene she's in - Adam's Rib.
