Just a question to toss out there, with the new site up (Deny Ignorance) and Discord running, and the fact that no new members can join ATS, instead
of slowly dying a long and lingering death, why haven't the mods just banned everyone?
No one could post anymore.
Topics would fade away into irrelevance.
Is it time to pull the plug?
Just asking. . . . .
While ATS continues to be moderated, DI will probably continue to lose a bunch of new members and already has over the past several months. The
initial boom of membership seems over and DI has failed to capture the inflow. If moderation stops then the site will no longer be the barrier that it
is now, no banning needed. It'll be too chaotic for it to be attractive for propaganda and the message to potential members will be visible.
It would only take one mod (or anyone really) to post a thread with the DI information and explanation of the current situation on ATS every few days.
It would be easy keep it at the top, then all the people that tried in vain to set up accounts may have known DI existed. The board being moderated
gives the appearance that it's a functioning site, but it isn't. While it continues to appear like a functioning site this problem will continue.
People show up, try to register without success, then simply disappear. They aren't spending a week here digging through posts to find a link to DI,
especially when they don't know it exists.
Everyone here seems pretty clear on the fact that DI isn't for all ATSers, too. As Western governments turn to authoritarian censorship and
criminlizing the exercising of rights, DI seems to have made a point of castigating political discussion as the source of incivility. It plays right
into the hands of groups that have been trying to ban ATS for years. These are the same forces, the sycophants for these groups, that engage in
malicious forum behavior and use toxic rhetorical techniques to stifle discussion.
Imagine if these behaviors and techniques, rather than the topics in which they are most often employed, were the things that were taboo.
I'm not capitulating to authoritarians and cry-bullies, nor do I foresee joining sites that have capitulation built into their policies. I hope
everyone finds a place the suits them and allows them to discuss the things they enjoy discussing without being heavily restricted. Unfortunately, for
many here, that doesn't seem to be DI.
