Since, strangely, there isn't a thread about today's debate yet, I'll take the lead. What are your predictions? Who will emerge as the winner in the polls after the debate?

My prediction: Harris will win 60:40 (according to the polls afterwards). Trump will create various word salads that no one understands, he will certainly argue below the belt, become agitated, and undoubtedly will need to be interrupted multiple times. I think he will say little of substance and remain vague on important issues (abortion, etc.). Overall, he will deliver a hectic and populist performance and play the 'we're all doomed if I'm not elected' card. Harris, on the other hand, will likely try to appear more statesmanlike, focusing on unity and a romantic vision of society. She will counter many of Trump's contradictory or false statements, and Trump will not be intellectually capable of handling it. Overall, I believe she will come across as more composed and less aggressive, making constructive suggestions without doom porn.

In the end, Harris supporters will say: yeah, she demystified him! And Trump's supporters will say: whatever, I'll vote for him anyway.

Decisive for the election? I doubt it. Only in one scenario: if Trump consistently shines and Harris fails on all levels. I don't see that happening.

So, what are your thoughts and predictions?

You mis spelled Harris.

I'll ask you the same question I've been asking : What has Harris done in the last 4 years to make you think she would be a good President ?

What laws has she tried to introduce that even remotely resemble what she's saying now ? You've seen her speak in very controlled interviews. She can't think on her feet and I'll skip the joke that she does most of her thinking on her knees.

I'd love to see the formula for that idea(; A tie could happen, where no one really wins or loses. In the end, it’s just a show. Very American. It’s more about the surface stuff like gestures and facial expressions than actual content and truth. This debate won’t heal society, but it probably won't make things worse either, things are already bad enough.

Who wins the debate will be based largely on preconceived notions.

The real question is how many minds will be changed.

I'm guessing zero, yet I'm also guessing there are still people who care about silly things like democratically elected nominees and will see how they have been deceived and corralled.

Perhaps they will then vote for the T man.

I'm not an expert. But as far as i understand a Vice President's role doesn't typically involve introducing legislation, that's the job of Congress, right?

In the interviews I've seen, she's pretty much like any other average politician (but very charismatic), sometimes maybe a bit too cheerful. I believe she's competent. How she would perform as President? Who knows? I think she'd do well.

Harris supporters will say she won.

Trump supporters will say he won.

The MSM will say Harris won.

Social media will censor anyone who says Trump won.

Trump will tell everyone how everything was the best of all time when he was President, in between reacting to Harris who will be calling him a criminal and sex offender and winding him up.
That's about it for Harris apart from a bunch of lies about how she is no longer a radical leftist.
Harris will be procalimed the winner regardless and Trump will tell everyone he had the best debate ever.
No one will be any the wiser, but Trump will look so bad it will spell the end of his chances.

That's about it

Cats wins, ducks win if Harris loses.

So yeah, cat lives matter.

When Eric Swallwell is crying and shaking over
cat memes, Donald Trump has already won

As VP she can't introduce a bill, but she can sponsor them, encourage the Democrats to put them forward.

As far as competence goes....Seriously ?

She can't answer a question without sounding as bad as Joe and cackling to cover her non answer. She just kind of wanders off into word salad that leaves anyone with more than 2 brain cells going "WTF did she just say ? "

Personally, I hope I'm wrong. If she wins, I hope she does a great job and if she does, I will put up a thread here on ATS admitting I misjudged her and that I was wrong. I have no problem admitting I was wrong.

But I'm not bettin' on it.

My guess is very few questions get directly answered by the candidates. They’ll brush on it and pivot to what they want to talk about.

There will be more talk about their opponents than what they plan to do.

If they do talk policy, it won’t be how they’ll do something. Just that they’ll do it (they won’t).

Each one has a zinger in their pocket they’ve made specifically for the event to get a clip in the buzz circuit.

Dude, the Vice President actually has voting rights in Congress as the tie breaker to pass bills.

Well yeah, that’s definitely what will most likely happen. Problem is, it won’t change anything.

Now what I think Kamala should do is go all out and totally own Trump… make Trump look like the disobedient little man child he is on live tv in front of the entire world. Not an easy feat with the whole muted mics deal, but it’s the only thing that’ll make this debate a game changer for Kamala.

Only thing that would make it a game changer for Trump is if Kamala goes out there Biden style and can’t even complete a full sentence… highly unlikely, imo.

Have you heard Harris speak off the cuff, without a teleprompter? Word salad every time.

Harris has no policies that will help America.

Her website claims she will be a "New way forward", that's complete and utter bullsh!t.

A new way forward from what? The last 3 1/2 years of what she was a huge part of?

This isn't a high school popularity contest.

Everything that you stated in your post is why
the party installed in office is spinning out of control.

Apparently, a country can only run itself for so long
while the POTUS is on continual vacation and the
V.P. is laughing and giggling and complaining about memes.
