Yes, Nixon won the 1972 election, but during his re-election campaign, he ordered the break-in and bugging of DNC offices at the Watergate hotel on 17 June 1972.

Nixon was elected after November 1972, but at the time, his involvement in Watergate was not known.

Several of the Watergate burglars were arrested, but Nixon denied involvement (despite him being the one to gain the greatest potential advantage for stealing secrets from his opponents).

So, despite the popular vote still being contested and therefore ambiguous, the EC vote was won by Kennedy, making him President.

I would say it is way too early to tell that. That city has been on fire for years now. The children are getting murdered by criminal activity causing gang wars that none seem able to put a dent in Chicago's murder rate.
