Well, Andy, hope is the last to die.

A draw between Hungary and Switzerland would have been handy. Scotland really need to dig deep to keep going and teams can grow and gel as the tournament progresses.

I remember the 1982 World Cup very well. Italy started off so piss-poor; we drew all our games in the opening group round; scraping through as runners-up.

That poor qualification then took us into the next stage, a three team round robin… the group of death. We were up against Argentina and Brazil. All hope seemed lost, yet we beat Argentina. Last game was against Brazil; they only needed a draw, we had to win at all costs. That was arguably, one of the best World Cup games ever. We got through 3-2 and the rest is history… taking out Poland in the semis and W. Germany in the final, and our third WC title and Paolo Rossi and Dino Zoff became national heroes.

Yes, but who will replace him?

He is far too defensive minded tho.

Good odds on Italy. Are you having a punt?

No, I don't bet on football games... actually, I haven't laid a bet on anything for over 30 years.

I just hope Portugal don't win. Purely because I couldn't stand having to look at Twinkletoes Ronaldo's smug face
...

Winker.

My sister only bet once in her life, on the Grand National.

Her horse dropped dead before the off.

Come on you Italy!

I need the cash!

So sad for the horse, but that's just too funny... and scary. Please dissuade your sister from betting... ever again.

No need. She won't!

Unless I can persuade her to back Portugal?

Yep, perhaps it's good to keep her in reserve for those win-at-all-costs games.

Andy mate, I know you were very young, but Mexico was ’86.

Anyway, what a scare in the first minute… Albania gave me a mild heart attack. I believe that’s a new EC record – 23 seconds for the opening goal. But all’s well that ends well.

It reminded me of the 1993 World Cup qualifying game between San Marino and England. San Marino scored first in 8.3 seconds. My best mate nearly choked on the pizza we ordered.

As for the opening games of this tournament, I’m surprised it’s such a goal fest... I hope it continues!

Any Millwall supporters on here? Come on, don't be shy?

Bush, Bush, Bushwackers!

Had a daft tenner on The Netherlands at 22/1 on Betfair.

I will refrain from commenting on both England and Scotland until tonight other than; with our squad you would think we have a good chance.....unfortunately we have Southgate managing them.

To me, Mexico was 1970.
That was when Sir Alf lost his halo (sending on substitutes when England were ahead against West Germany, and then losing the match).

Yes, Mexico hosted twice, but I was too young to remember the 1970 tournament.
