I don't know if you are the right generation to remember Essex Man as the archetypical Thatcher voter. That was the allusion.

Essex Girl, on the other hand, was a completely different creature.

Probably not if he thinks Reform are misogynistic racists , I think historian and broadcaster Rafe Heydel-Mankoo summed it up best when he said Reform are the Tories of the 80s and 90s.

80's Tories under Thatcher who destroyed British Industry and sold off public assets which are now under mainly foreign ownership.

90's Tories under Major who gave away our sovereignty to The EU.

If Farage and Reform are the answer, then we really are in trouble. Farage, The Poundland Donald Trump.

Tony Blair gave away our sovereignty to The EU.

"It is ... bizarre that the government should now be preparing to drop its veto on asylum and immigration issues within the EU with barely any explanation and little attempt to forestall the outcry that Britain is surrendering sovereignty on an issue of crucial social and political importance ...

"Labour obviously fears that any talk of majority voting on asylum will be seized on by the Conservatives as a surrender to 'Europe', stoking anti-EU feeling. The precedent could weaken Labour's stand against majority voting on tax, foreign policy and defence. None is any reason for stifling debate on an issue where ignorance is exploited by extremists."

Wrong. It was John Major who signed " The Maastricht Treaty " The biggest surrender to The EU. You need to read it.

The Maastricht Treaty laid down the foundation for the European Union.

The term Maastricht Treaty refers to the international agreement that was responsible for the creation of the European Union (EU). The agreement was signed in 1992 in the Dutch city of Maastricht and became effective in 1993. It led to greater cooperation between the 12 member nations that signed the treaty by promoting unified citizenship, along with economic, social, and progress. The treaty also laid down the foundation for a single currency, the euro. It was amended several times since it was signed. As of October 2021, 27 member states were part of the European Union.

I am old enough to remember what she did. She wanted to turn Britain from a manufacturing Industrial economy to a service industry. Again you need to read.

Margaret Thatcher's legacy is one of devastation.

If this is what Farage is offering then he can do one. Nothing but a chancer.

If it's racism you are worried about, where were you when there were those posts about anti white racism in the labour party? Or is racism just a convenient stick to beat people with when you can't think of a proper argument to counter their positions?

Under Thatcher and Major we had a privileged position in the EU , at that time the EU was beneficial to our economy.

Moreover, Britain played a vital role in promoting European integration by championing the European Single Market in the 1980s. It was Lord Cockfield, appointed as a British Commissioner by then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who led the drive to introduce qualified majority voting (QMV) so that one nation could no longer block liberalising measures in order to protect a domestic industry.

While successfully promoting its free-market vision of economic policy in Europe, the UK also managed to secure an opt-out from the obligation to join the EU’s planned single currency, the Euro, as part of the negotiations on the Maastricht Treaty concluded in 1992. When John Major’s Conservative government, which had won the opt-out, was replaced by Tony Blair’s more pro-European Labour government in 1997, the UK announced a number of economic ‘tests’ to determine whether it should join the Euro; but when then-Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown decided in 2003 that it was not in the UK’s national interest to do so, that effectively guaranteed that the UK would retain the pound. As a consequence, the UK avoided many of the problems that hit the Eurozone after the financial crisis of 2008-2009.

It was only when "ever closer union" started to become a part of the EU agenda that our trading partnership was being transitioned into membership of an EU super state which was for many a step to far , it was Blair who was up for that and Blair who opened our borders , it was also Blair who through his disastrous partnership with Bush laid the foundation for Illegal migration we see today.

Yeah , I'm old enough to remember it too.

Remember the Lisbon treaty Brown signed on the quiet.

Gordon Brown defied the polls, the opposition, unions and the Eurosceptic press last night by committing Britain irrevocably to greater European integration under the EU's controversial reform treaty. He insisted the British national interest had been protected.

Speaking as the 27 EU heads of government and state gathered in Lisbon to agree the treaty, Mr Brown in effect finally ruled out a referendum, saying that the debate would be conducted in parliament "and people will be able to judge for themselves that the British national interest has been protected".

Mr Brown stressed that the original concept of a new constitution for the EU had been abandoned.

It was Labour who sold out this Country and Labour will attempt to do it again under Starmer.

Think you need to read this.

Newly released files show how, behind the scenes, John Major decided how to overcome Conservative MPs who voted against the Maastricht treaty in July 1993. Summertime, Conservative civil war over Europe, and Rees-Mogg challenging the prime minister's European plans - but this wasn't Theresa May and Jacob Rees-Mogg but her predecessor, John Major, and his father, William, Lord Rees-Mogg. And the battle was not over Brexit but the Maastricht treaty. This was the agreement that turned the European Community into the European Union (EU) and laid the foundations for the European single currency, the euro.

I've always thought it was Thatcher behind the modern EU when she signed the single european act, she set in stone many of the principles that bind the members of the eu, going against state ownership of industries etc.

I remember all the hoo hah about Major not allowing a referendum on Maasrtricht, gotta ask yourself if the referendum where we voted to leave would have still happened if he had been a bit more open, and Brown after him with the Lisbon treaty.

Also Brexit has been an unmitigated Disaster, The same Brexit Farage had a very large part to play in it.

Now he says that the small boats are the enemy... I agree that immigration needs to be controlled somewhat, The people in these boats though are just human beings, desperate mostly.

The actual real enemy that comes to these shores , travel by yacht and limousine.

Farage is full of # and only really interested in Farage.. dont be taken in by this charlatan

Rapists are just human beings , murderers are also just human beings but I don't think that's a reason to be importing them , by desperate I guess you mean desperate to get to Britain as they've passed through many safe counties on their journey to our shores.

With parts of Europe moving to the Right and Germany tightening it's immigration rules more of those desperate people are already heading for Socialist Britain to enrich us with their culture , as the weather calms down expect a considerable upturn in small boats and the costs , financial and societal , associated with them.

Farage is full of # and only really interested in Farage.. dont be taken in by this charlatan

Farage speaks the truth which for some is hard to handle , the only charlatan I see is sitting in No 10 with a smaller vote share than Corbyn had.

That’s not the UK’s problem. A country has an obligation to its citizens, not non-assimilating migrants from hostile cultures.

The UK, US, France, Canada, Germany etc. bare no responsibility whatsoever to these people. Especially not if it adversely affects the native population.

They should all be deported en masse.

Looks like Mr "White mens tears are my favourite" has tried, with the help of the guardian journos, to shift the blame for racism in this campaign, linky

Honestly, it has gone way past the stage of saying so what, now.
If the other side cares this little about racism directed at us why should we ever care about their allegations of racism directed at them?

That's a nice meme but you've got the wrong words. It should be "money, that's what it's all about, MONEY, how can we get more out of the people for us".
